Please inpsire me to give lucid dreamining another shot

Hi dreamview community, I learned about lucid dreaming about a year ago, and I was really really excited about trying it. I immediately bought the book "Exploring the world of lucid dreaming" after seeing some recommendations of it and read it thoroughly. I tried some of the techniques outlined in there with little to no success. I also have searched this site and others for sites and gave some half hearted attempts at using some techniques

I was in college during this whole time, and had some big exams for graduate school to study for amongst other things, so I was under some regular stress, and often simply wanted to sleep when I got to bed.

I find myself with a lot of time on my hand now, but a year later now I'm a little worn out on the idea, wondering if it's actually worth it to put in the effort to master this phenomena of the mind. So please inspire me in whatever manner you think possible, whether it is a simple argument on why I should, by sharing some experiences that you've encountered whilst lucid dreaming, or whatever manner you think of.

Dreams are the way to escape from stress and you can do absolutely anything in a dream. Just keep on going, okay? It's worth it.

Think of it. Being able to fly on cue. Being able to go on untold adventures within your mind. Having the ability to manipulate anything you want to your personal desire. It's very fun to even think about it.

I too become a bit worn out towards the idea of lucid dreaming, like it's "gotten old" or something. But I just have to remind myself that...

...Lucid dreaming pretty much has no limits.

      - Live out scenes from your favorite movies (one of my personal favorite things to do)
      - Fly as high and fast as you want
      - Beat the crap out of someone (who doesn't want that?) =P
      - Run really fast
      - Speak with your subconscious
      - Control fire and other elements
      - Telekinesis
      - Control a person's actions
      - Make a DC your slave
      - And so much more!

I feel like I'm trying to promote something. xD

One thing I find is that listening to music helps me become motivated to lucid dream. It gives me ideas for lucid goals, and just things to do in general.

And finally, I might as well refer you to some links.
Have a look at my lucid accomplishments and signature picture for examples of stuff you can do in lucid dreams. And have a look at my DILD guide, it provides info on how to easily start lucid dreaming again.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      It's absolutely awesome!

I am a bit like you. I've been trying for a few years now, on and off. Finally two days ago, I had my first lucid dream! Just keep at it and you WILL succeed. It's advantageous in life too. An ability that most people don't have. It will give you a new perspective in real life. You can simulate daily encounters in your dreams and improve them. And it's all done in your dreams, so no time is wasted here!
I know it takes time to write dream journals and that could interfere a little bit with life. But hey, people take the time to go to the gym, read a good book etc. This is the same thing. And you can keep your journals short but the most important thing is to never stop. Keep going. Do a little bit everyday.
The world of lucid dreaming has so much potential. No one should have to be motivating you. Explore the dream world. Do extraordinary things. Master your creativity. It's like real life but your imagination, is reality!

Hm, so you aren't trying it because of stress? I would say then that trying right now wouldn't be good, let the stress go away and then return, stress is a big time killer for LDs, and if you are coming already stressed, it will only grow larger <.<
Also, different things work for different people, so don't take the techniques as if set in stone, it is much better to play with them and make them your own, just do it at your own pace.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, I've noticed I haven't been able to remember my dreams as much as I used to, so I guess I'll start by trying to improve my memory of them.

Few questions though, how "real" do lucid dreams get. Can you honestly not tell the difference from real life and a dream? In terms of physical sensations that is. Can you feel your own weight? Can you feel textures that you touch?

They can get as real as waking, yes, but this rarely happens while non-lucid. If you are lucid though, it is possible to make the dream more real.

Depending on how aware you are, they can feel semi-real, almost "fuzzy", to extremely real. I remember having a high-level lucid that looked almost exactly like real life, and things felt the same too. I've definitely touched textures and they feel extremely real. As for feeling my own weight, sometimes when I jump I tend to float a bit more than I should, but that's pretty much it. If you expect yourself to be weighted down, you will be.

      That's awesome
Is the range of realism the same for things you see? For example, can you actually see the details to the level of realism on strangers' faces that appear in your dream?

I'm glad to hear that being actually fully lucid increases the realism, because I feel like a lot of my dreams are fuzzy, but I never think so while in the dream. So maybe its just my memory that's fuzzy?

Definitely. I've seen people very up close, and they look very realistic. I've also rubbed my hand along brick and stucco on the sides of houses, and the stucco felt real. It even scratched my hand a bit.

If you focus well enough, things have proper light sources, textures, colors... I had a lucid dream last night and was in my school, but there were big polished wooden accents everywhere. Although they weren't in my school in real life, they looked so convincing.

And regarding the fuzziness, it's probably your memory; but then again, sometimes dreams just aren't that vivid to begin with. It helps to use vividness supplements like vitamin B6 or apple juice to boost vividness, just in case.

Indeed, it can get really real, you can even feel the water from the rain, the heat from the sun and that stuff if you try!

      >> Can you feel your own weight?
Absolutely. Not only gravitational weight, but all acceleration. When I'm flying and bank turn hard I feel the G force on my entire body. I suppose I only know what this should feel like because of roller coasters, but the feeling-- and the memory of it afterwards-- is indistinguishable from real life.
