Don't Fly! Your LD will last longer

Everyone's experience with lucid dreaming is unique to them individually. Personally, I try not to fly as the act produces adrenaline that tends to suck me right out of the experience. I understand that it is hard not to fly as it is a wonderfully exhilarating experience, but if you are really lucid then you can choose not to. When I lucid dream these days I like to look at the detail of things... leaves, tree bark, clothing. It is quite amazing. Not flying makes my LD's longer. I write about lucid dreams in my blog, BTW:

I've become very excited from flying before, shouting in delight and continuing to accelerate through the air, but I've never had a shortened lucid because of it. Although it can shorten the length of some peoples' LDs, I don't believe it affects me that much.

I too like to observe things in lucids. I looked at some tiles the other day on the walls of my school.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Flying actually helps me sometimes, more of a reality check now for me. Like if I start flying, there is 100% no doubt in my mind, "Oh, I'm in a Lucid now!" With the nose trick, sometimes you don't breathe. With looking at your fingers, rarely they'll be normal. But if I start levitating out of nowhere, Red Flag, boom, dreaming, awesome.

It's different for everyone, but it happens when you get excited and your heartbeat increases.

I believe that anything that causes extreme excitement has a tendency to shorten the LD experience. I prefer just to wander around, taking in the sites on foot, and only occasionally jump tall buildings with a single bound

That's weird! I've had the opposite effect. Flying generally helps me to stabilize the dream.

But if flying is a lucid killer, it isn't the end of the world. Running, climbing and jumping can be a lot funner.

The more used to being lucid you become the more excitement you can handle without waking up.

So yes flying will certainly do that, but once you have had lots of lucids you can fly even with the adrenaline and stay stable.

I agree! That's probably why I can freak out during flying and still keep the dream stable.

I fly all the time and love it. I've never had any problems with staying in the dream.

That's interesting. My dreams often end early and I wonder if it's because I like to fly. Flying is just my main mode of travel in dreams. If you don't have a heavy physical body, why would you drag your spirit across the ground, when you can get around a lot faster? I always feel in a hurry in my lucids, feeling I have to utilize as much time as possible. I'm very impatient; if in real life I could travel by bypassing every obstacle, instead of going around them, I would be a very happy camper. However, I wouldn't completely cut out walking/jogging. This corporeal monstrosity needs exercise sometimes.

I love flying, but don't get crazy excited about it. If I want to, I can scene change or exit a dream by flying into a wall as fast as I can.
