^ What he said. And it's even amusing to entertain the insalubrious effects of sleeping less than 8.5 hours when, arguably, (1) most people don't sleep the 'required hours' per night at the outset, and (2) the amount of sleep needed varies between individuals and day by day.

WILD is by NO means synonymous with ANY loss of sleep. A WILD is not the same thing as a WBTB. If I try a WILD in the middle of the day...how am I losing sleep? Wouldn't I be gaining sleep? Do you have a different definition of "sleep"? Please educate me.
Are you for serious? I said WILD requires loss of sleep, but its too little to count (The part where you attain SP), then I said that some people do unhealty things to attain WILDs, here I'm not referring to WILD itself, thought this would be pretty obvious but apparently not <.<

Come on, stop trying to put words on my mouth aquanina, thats not nice, especially if you are going to get all "light-insulting" when going at it. Oh right, light insulting refers to the tone I percieve from your post, in case that isn't obvious either.

Edit: I totally agree with Oneironaut, just arguing because Aquanina is blaming me about something I didn't say. As I never said WILD makes you lose a considerable amount of sleep, but the people who practice it (Sometimes).

The only thing I got from Walms post was: "You do lose a little sleep, but it doesn't matter unless you do it excessively".. I don't see much wrong with that post IMO. Surprised people are arguing on fairly trivial things.

I know of people that do this to invoke REM rebound in order to WILD more 'easily.'

The act of WILDing doesn't cost any sleep (unless you're doing it wrong, which happens very often), but that WBTB, which many methods demand, is going to cost you a few seconds to a few minutes of sleep. Unless you have a different definition of sleep, that is.

But like Walms said in the first place, that's such an insignificant number you might as well not count it.

What should be counted are f-ed up attempts where people lie in bed for an hour or more waiting for signs of SP or some other silly thing. If you screw up a WILD in that fashion during the night, and can't account for it in the morning, you're going to lose sleep.

But like O said, that's the fault of the person more than anything else.

So I'm not really sure what all this arguing is about, as it's apparent everyone is already in agreement about WILD being harmless.

Ultimately, if you're an accomplished WILDer, then you won't lose sleep. If you're not, then you will DEFINITELY lose sleep if you insist on its success.

The first post reminds me of a book called, 'Experiment in Depth: Study of the work of Eliot, Jung & Toynbee' by Percival William Martin. By the way it is a dangerous book, not to be fooled around with.

Like the first post describes if you open doors in your unconscious mind and you can't handle the horrendous consequences you're in a lot of trouble because those opened doors can't always be closed again.

Dangerous - How about spending the rest of your life completely demented in a secure psychiatric hospital.

I've heard something similar to that, except it concerned OBEs.

I think he just watched Inception and got the wrong idea or something. I love the movie, but I think it makes people think of LDing in a bit of a wrong way. I'm just glad I discovered lucid dreaming before the movie came out.

Oh really. Translocate yourself to the essence of one of the major world religions and attempt to manipulate it and you will found out how dangerous lucid dreaming can be. At best you will be instantly converted to the religion, at worst it will send you permanently insane.

You can have a preview at google books but obviously some pages are omitted. abe.com is a good place to buy it.
