The times I focused too much on my physical body, I ended up failing those DEILDs. Focusing on your body (heartbeat, breathing, etc) is good for relaxing, but once you hit SP and the dream formation starts, you should be focusing on imagining sensations of a dream forming around you, including tactile, auditory, and visual ones. If you just can't ignore the pulse, try imagining it as a certain sensation in the dream and create an imaginary explanation as to why you're feeling it. It's a bit hard to explain, but here's an example - if you want to DEILD and you woke up with your right arm half-asleep, imagine a dream where your arm was above your head, which would cause it to lose some circulation.
