      The moon in LD

So I've had this question for a long time. A while ago my friend who apparently is a big lucid dreamer told me it's impossible to get to the moon while LD. Whether you're trying to fly there or teleport, it's supposedly impossible.

His explanation was something along the lines: "If you try to fly there you'd just keep on flying and never reach it". If I remember correctly he got confirmation from some forums as well.

      So what's your experience?

Pretty easy to get there, of course people on forums like to make up myths, and dreams being like they are make those who read this have a preconcieved idea and fail to get to the moon as the myth says.

Total bullsh*t. Nothing is impossible in a lucid dream - I've even been to the moon myself.

Those who claim otherwise clearly know nothing about lucid dreaming.

The most important 'rule' in lucid dreaming is that the only limitations are those you put on yourself.

Hi there my friend, I think this concept of "impossible to reach the moon" is quite amusing. It's POSSIBLE to reach the moon. Why do we all want to LD? Because we can do EVERYTHING in a LD. You just need the proper confidence in yourself.

There was somebody who thought saying your name in a dream would cause you to wake up. He was completely unable to say it without waking up. Skeptical, Stephen LaBerge tried it. He said his name and....

      ...absolutely nothing happened.
[This is from LaBerge's book Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming]
What I'm trying to say here is that you shouldn't believe 99.999% of what is said about not being able to do stuff in dreams.
Save the world, wake up, study maths.

Though it was non-lucid, i built a spaceship (no bigger than a quad bike) and flew to the moon, crash landed on it, made a shelter, slept there the whole night, I even remember having false awakenings and still being on the moon! if i could do all that on a quad bike whilst non lucid, shit, lucid id be visiting mars and jupiter! superman style!
like the others said, if you beleive it wont work, it wont. beleive to perceive

Well I'm going to take your words over his. The reason I trusted him is because he's the "spiritual" one in our group. He's the one who told us about lucid dreaming, he has also studied a bit of astral projections, out of body experiences and what not. Maybe he lacks faith.

      Thanks for clearing this up.

I tend to find that the best way is to just DO something.
When you're in a dream and lucid, don't wonder whether you can or can't do something. JUST DO IT.
I've never really had trouble doing anything I wanted to do in a lucid, because I know I can do anything.

The JUST DO IT thing is weird for me. At the start I couldn't just fly, but the other night I did it instintively in a fight. It's more like not even thinking about it for me.

Going to the Moon was a goal of mine. And I'll admit that it was one of the harder ones for me to achieve. I had to try several ways before I found the right way for me to get there. Flying straight up was taking too long. I tired to go through a mirror portal (I had luck before using a mirror to get to outer space) but it wasn't cooperating this time. I finally just willed my surroundings to change. And BLAM, I was there. And it was worth the effort. Just to know that I did it was a huge accomplishment. But also jumping from crater to crater in less gravity was a lot of fun.

So my point is if one way doesn't work, don't give up.

My frustration after one failed attempt lead me to make this drawing...haha. (but I didn't give up)

      Mirror Portal Fail

I also used to look at moon pictures before bed to help inspire me. And, sure enough, my moon looked a whole lot like this.

Anyway...that's my experience. Hope that helps.

      @Twoshadows

That sounds pretty ace. My experience was rather.. strange. I knew I was on the moon as I beheld myself in outer space and then soaring towards it, but once I got there it wasn't as you'd normally expect. It was rather prehistoric and there was dinosaurs wandering around everywhere - some flying around too.

The terrain kind of had this sort of feel to it:

      Obviously not what you'd expect.

That's what I mean. See, because, in the fight, you were not wondering whether you could or couldn't fly. You just realised you needed to fly to get out of trouble, and did it.

That's how you need to do everything in a dream. When you want to do something, do it, don't think about whether or not it can be done at all. BECAUSE IT CAN

i'm actually planning to visit oddworld in a lucid dream one day, Abe is the man!

as for the moon, i back everyone up; dreams are completely limitless in nature. a dream doesn't necessarily need gravity, time or any of the other restraints we are used to in our waking life.

      go for it!

I actually went to the moon in one of my dreams once. I remember it quite vividly. I wasn't lucid but it was definitely pretty cool. The only limitations in lucid dreaming are the limits that you place on yourself.

Just in my last lucid, tried to go to the moon, but wanted go there with a jetpack. Went searching for a jetpack, but instead found a Magnum.
So definetely going to get there.
