      DEILD tips?

I'm going to try the DEILD technique for the next few weeks and just curious of any specific tips that have helped anyone else in the past to successfully achieve lucidity through this technique. Any tips or general comments about it can be helpful!

DEILD is an excellent technique. Best I could advise is to read all tutorials you can find.

      Dutchraptor DEILD
      Re-entering LD

But even after reading all that, the conditions have to be spot on for it to work. You have to wake up from a dream, but not wake up a whole lot. For me it works the best, if I'm still more asleep than awake, just enough aware to remember that I wanted to DEILD. This of course doesn't happen every time when I wake up. Sometimes no matter what, I wake up too much, before I remember the DEILD. But sooner or later the moment will come when you find yourself in right conditions.

Then, best is not to move at all, so you stay in REM. As soon as you move, your REM is over. You can still try and it may work, but it's best not to move, or even open eyes. Don't get surprised by strange sensations if you get any, just let them be and within seconds to a minute or so, you should be in a dream, only this time lucid. Good luck and Happy dreams

With my experience with DEILD, you should start out with mantras during the day, to enforce that you WILL be aware when you wake from a dream. With the mantras, you can enforce that you are aware when you awake, you know to lay still, etc. with whatever you need.
During the night for the first bit, set an alarm during the night that will shut itself off, so you will wake for sure. If you have an iPod, there is an app called Alarmed, link here http://itunes.apple.com/app/id371886784
Reminders is what section you should go for if you are interested in this app.

One of the best uses of DEILD, in my opinion, is chaining. Simply, when you exit from a lucid dream, stay still, and you can move into another lucid dream easily. I'm sure you have read about DEILD, and you can find out how exactly to do for you.

      Hope this helps

Thanks guys for the feedback! I will definitely try the auto suggestion and mantras during the day. Do either of you use this technique the most out of all the rest? This seems to be the best for me, still being a high school student and not having many hours to sleep each night. This seems to be the quickest way to become lucid. I will search for more tutorials and take advantage of the mantras during the day. Thanks again guys! Fingers crossed!

I am also a high school student, Ryanshep11. I know it can be a pain when trying to do the WILD method when you already don't get enough sleep. It is a great method, but it isn't the greatest for me. As gab said, the conditions have to be right. I would always be too tired, and would slip into a normal dream. But it is a fantastic method which allows me to chain dreams

Which method do you find fits your lifestyle better? You're right when you said the WILD method was a burden so I'm curious to know your preferred technique since I assume we have similar sleep schedules on the weekdays.

I'd say that the best method for me is....well, it's undecided at this point. I started all of this under two months ago. I had my first dryspell already that lasted for three weeks, but I have had ten lucid dreams so far.

Honestly, I don't know what method is best for me as of now. I always do reality checks, and I usually have mantra I repeat during the day. I do WILDS on the weekend, while I actually can get enough sleep. I'm not that good at DEILD, unless it's chaining. But I know all of this because I have tried. You need to as well. Even if something works for me, it may not work for you.

I do have three suggestions for you. One, is to do Wake Back to Bed (WBTB) at least a few times during the week. WBTB is fantastic, as it can be used for any method. One interesting thing with WBTB is this. If you are doing DEILD, you can repeat a mantra of ' I will wake in thirty minutes' for a bit before returning to bed. Even if you don't wake up in thirty minutes, you will most likely wake up sometime before you wake up for good.

Another, is to get to bed earlier. I know it's a pain, and honestly it was hard to get used to at first. But if you do that, it will greatly improve your chances of a lucid dream, and will improve recall.

Last thing I recommend trying is All Day Awareness. Even if you don't do it all day, it is an extremely interesting technique, and will make your dreams VEEY vivid. And if you do it right, it is a weird but cool feeling. KingYoshi wrote a guide about it here

Holy crap, just realized how long that past was. Sorry!

Cool thing is, that you don't have to pick just one method.

You do RCs, awareness, mantras and DJ for DILDs. You can have a DILD at any time, no waking up or loss of sleep is required.

You do awareness and WBTB for WILD.

When you go to bed at night, you say your mantras (for DILD and WILD). When you wake up at night from a dream, you can try for a DEILD. If DEILD won't work, or you didn't wake up from a dream, you can get up for WBTB and go for a WILD. If that fails that night, you still have a chance for a DILD, and if you do WBTB, even better chance for DILD.

Your WBTB doesn't have to be long. Sometimes just going to the restroom, sitting on a bed and do some math problems in head (to wake up your logic center) for a few minutes may be enough.

If you have time on the weekend for a morning WBTB, that is a prime time for WILDs, DEILDs, but also for DILDs. I get up at anytime in the morning (7-9am), stay up for maybe an hour, lay down on a sofa to watch tv untill sleepy. Then I turn the tv off and WILD. Even if you just fall asleep, you have an excellent chance for a DILD.

The original morning WILD goes like this:
      1. Wake up 90 min before your normal waking time.
      2. Stay up for 90 min.
      3. Do LD related stuff to keep your mind on target.
      4. Last 10 min - do mantras
      5. Take a 90 min nap

      Happy dreams

Good luck Ryan! I don't know about you, but when I started a dream journal and started remembering my dreams, even that was worth it to me for the effort.
