      Asking Questions.

Have any of you ever asked yourself a question while in a dream? I am under the impression that the parts of your brain that deal with the ego are not active while dreaming and so any realizations you come to while dreaming are the absolute truth. I know dreaming is still a very new field of psychology with many unanswered questions, but maybe someone on here has some type of insight/experience with talking with the subconscious mind while dreaming that could give me a better understanding of what is happening. I was given an answer last night to a very important question that completely and utterly shatters my entire perspective of my life, even writing this seems like a waste of time, but I am desperate. I am losing my grip on reality and I am slowly spiraling out of control. Please, no pity or "life is worth living" arguments, I just want open and honest responses explaining your experiences with your subconscious mind.

      Thank you.

I have asked a few questions. None of the answers were special.

I have had ideas in dreams that seemed so profound and then when I woke up and applied a bit of rational thought the whole thing fell apart.

That happens to a lot of things that are said while awake, too.

Quill, you are assuming that Freud's theories are correct...
Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week; you have a schedule, a calendar... Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.

Can you elaborate on that....Freud had many theories. Basically, I had a dream in which I became lucid, I manifested my subconscious and started a conversation like I do regularly in my dreams, and asked why do I feel as if I can not get a grip on my life currently. My subconscious, manifested as my best friend, told me that I died in a car accident and now I am stuck in some type of alternate reality forced to live a life of sorrow. I also have reoccurring vision of someone standing over my bed and I am unable to interact, much like as if I am in a coma in a hospital. I do not know if I in someway tapped into a past life or if I am going crazy. Hell for all I know, I could be in a coma in a hospital on life support in a reality unlike anything I know. This could all be some huge dream, or maybe I have already died and I am reliving my life in a DMT explosion in my last few moments of my life. I know how crazy all of this sounds, but what possible reason could I subconsciously have to spin such a big lie.

You are assuming that your mind has the whole id/ego/superego segregation of consciousnesses. Now, I know that's practically heresy to try to deny here on DV, but really... what proof do we have that our mind can think against itself?

My subconscious, manifested as my best friend, told me that I died in a car accident and now I am stuck in some type of alternate reality forced to live a life of sorrow.
Also, that account is really starting to sound like that of a friend of mine who recently got amnesia and now has dreams that are an exact carbon-copy of her real life. (And dreamsigns don't work for her.) O_O

Supposed to live a life of sorrow? Well then go do something epic and fun. or re-name yourself Jeremiah, the Weeping Prophet

Well, I know what you are going through where reality and dreams mix together and it can be hard to discern which is which. All I can say that will really help is that you didn't die, you are alive in this reality that you are on your computer, and stop trying to lucid dream if you are. Your brain will slowly work the problem out and you will find it an interesting learning experience. At least, I found it interesting.

I don't think your mind is making up something to scare you or make you question reality.
I think it's just something you have thought about at some point and it's not like there is a "this is what i want to hear" filter on the brain during dreams. It just spouts nonsense most of the time.

And for what it's worth, I am very real, or atleast my consciousness is.

Maybe you should approach it in a similar way as you would dream interpretation. Usually when people interpret a dream they focus less on the manifest content and more on the latent content. They find what would be the metaphorical meaning behind the scene. Don't stress yourself out about this.

BTW I am real too =p
