Looking for your Dream Guide? Try this.

      Hey Dreamviews,

      A little background information:

In my very first lucid dream, I ran out and tried to fly (as most novices do ). When that failed however, I shouted out to my dream "Show me something amazing!" At that moment, I felt the urge to look up at the sky; sure enough, the sky was filled with vivid stars and galaxies. This might have been the most amazing thing I've seen in my entire life.

In later lucid dreams, I communicated with my dream by shouting commands and/or queries, and it usually responded by creating glowing blue textual responses on my front door (since most of my dreams occur outside my house). However, this trend was broken about a week ago when I had a lucid dream, and my dream actually spoke to me.

      -----

From analyzing mine and others' experiences, it is safe to conclude that our conscious selves don't purposely manipulate every aspect and detail of our dreaming realm. If that was the case, every lucid dream we would have would fall under the category 'hyper lucid' in terms of clarity and control. Therefore, I can assume that our subconscious is responsible for the base load of the dream. If that is the case, why not let our subconscious, which is the essence of our dreams, be our guide?

Most dreamers set off on these elaborate adventures in quest for their dream guides, sometimes only to find DCs posing as their dream guide. Why go searching for something when your true guide surrounds you at all times during your dreams?

Next time you're in a lucid dream, I suggest the following:

      1. Shout out to your dream to manifest into a consistent form before you (asking for its true form wouldn't do much, for I speculate that your subconscious's true form is the dream environment around you).

      2. Ask for it's name (I'm really interested in this, could it be that your subconscious shares the same name as it's dreamer, or could it provide a name that may have some significance with the dreamer?)

      3. Ask your subconscious, once manifested, to appear in it's form and guide you every time you're in a lucid dream (or maybe even ask it to help you become lucid if you're in a regular dream!)

I feel that once you've established a connection w/ your subconscious, you can truly unlock the hidden potentials of lucid dreaming. The next lucid dream I have, I'll post back on my experiences with this. I'm also interested in hearing your feedback on this.

      Happy dreaming

To quote one of my other posts. Dream guides aren't something that's fundamental to dreams, like a science or anything. They're just another fun thing to do in a lucid dream, like flying. Like most things in dreams, it's an "it exists because you expect it to exist" sort of thing. Many people like to think of it as their subconscious speaking to them. But that's just their opinion.

A lot of people tend to take the term subconsciousness out of perspective. When you dream, despite the illusion of consciousnesses, a lot of the logic centers of your brain are still asleep. This disconnection creates the illusion that your own thoughts aren't coming from you. Much in the same way a dog can bark at a mirror, not realizing they are seeing themselves. It also has the double effect of allowing thoughts and ideas, which may normally be suppressed by logic, to come to you unfiltered. If that's your definition of a subconsciousness, then yes, a dream guide is your subconsciousness. But so is everything else in a dream. A dream guide is just a familiar face your mind has put on this manifestation of thought.
"I know that I am mortal by nature, and ephemeral; but when I trace at my pleasure the windings to and fro of the heavenly bodies I no longer touch the earth with my feet: I stand in the presence of Zeus himself and take my fill of ambrosia, food of the gods." - Claudius Ptolemy

That's exactly what a dream guide is - a manifestation of thought. However, this isn't about so much as to what a dream guide is, it's about acquiring assistance to help in one's lucid endeavors. This was just a shortcut method for those who think they have to go on an elaborate adventure to manifest what, in reality, is there surrounding them all along.

..my dream doesn't obey me XD

I wanted to summon someone, even as a DC, I don't care, so I shouted his name, over and over and over. Even saying "[name], you're behind this corner! I can't believe I didn't find you before!" and then turn the corner and.. ..nothing

      Help?

      Two suggestions:

      1. Did you REALLY expect for your friend to be around the corner. Oftentimes, and I am guilty of this too, you say that they'll be around the corner, but by saying that, you're trying more to convince yourself that something will appear, instead of 100% truly believing that it will be there. A little practice is all it takes

      2. In concurrence with my opening, try asking your dream directly if you want something to happen. For example, and say this with absolute certainty in yourself, say "Dream, manifest [Insert Hear] here in front of me." If your dream doesn't respond, ask again, but more firmly.

I believe this goes right along with the 'Dreamer behind the Dream' concept.

Also, as a mini-update, I tested this dream-guide theory in a recent lucid. Unfortunately, it was, at best, a semi-lucid, and didn't have much control, but when I asked my dream to manifest into a consistent form in front of me, my dream replied "Ask again when you are better prepared." I assume this means come back when I have a more vivid lucid dream =/

Same here, thanks for the tips! I've always thought that I can just ask my subconscious to create a form, since I have dream signs of blonde females, and a video game character who is a blonde has been with me in several dreams before. (probably because I have the hots for her)

Now I just have to get lucid

But when I do get lucid, I plan to try and trick this form to test it if it really is a dream guide that fits what I think should have qualities of one (the last time I asked my subconscious to create the character I liked, it did, but it ran away from me, probably to test me)

(For me I want a dream guide that is willing to see me degrade and going into insanity when I use lucid dreaming to see my hidden desires, and cherish my wishes to do so. But at the same time, it will save me when I do not favor such desires). Sort of like a restore point when things get too traumatic (and with anyone who wants to lucid dream, they will find things they don't want to do anymore)).

Just wanted to say I found in my dreams space looks just stunning if you pay attention to it as well. What is it about our minds that managed to generate such dazzling, surreal night skies with the craziest assortments of shining stars and striking planets?

After reading Hyu's dream journal about his experiences, my thoughts about this have changed a little...but I won't say my conclusions until I experience them for myself.

Good thread, I have a question. When you guys get DGs do you think of a specific person you know of? Or does a random person come to you? Because I have been planning to meet Brandon Flowers in my next lucid. And I'm thinking that because he is someone I look up to he could easily be my DG.

I've been looking forward for Eva being my dream guide. And despite the pixels, she's beautiful :3

      Spoiler for Eva:

But I'm only interested because she appeared randomly in a non-lucid dream to give me a letter.

Sorry for necro'ing an old thread but I really found this post inspiring and want it to resurface for others to read. I will be sure to make locating a dream guide my next goal after mastering stabilization.

      This sound worth trying.
I've had some good results from shouting things out in lucid dreams. Although sometimes it doesn't work as well.
      It's all in your head.
