I would listen to Gab. There are lots of other tutorials on here, and don't be afraid to try something new, it might just be exactly what you need. Don't try to do too much, but I would recommend learning about LDing as much as possible through this site and books.
how can i take the time after I wake up to really set my mind to become lucid in my next dream
You want to think about, watch, or read whatever it is that makes you want to be lucid in the first place. What inspires you to try and lucid dream. Lots of people like the matrix or movies like that. I personally love all my dreams. I think about the dreams I recently had or something like that.
what else can i do? how do i know if im making progress or not??
Meditation is really good, I would keep at that. I would recommend waking up after every REM cycle because this increases awareness and dream recall.
You should know if you are making progress if your dreams are more vivid and you are in more control. For instance, a lot of people just watch their bodies in their dreams, just walking around doing something it seems they were per-programed to do. My dreams (especially now) I may be in a different environment than normal, but I am just walking around like I normally do, thinking through things like normal, at that time it just seems normal for a rhino to be talking to me and singing Christmas carols, haha.
If you are starting now, you should make a commitment to do this for as long as it takes. Count the cost now instead of backing out later. My biggest piece of advice.
Good luck! I wish you many delightful lucids. Enjoy normal dreams. PM me if you wish for more of my advice, .
