Why don't I want to anymore?

I really don't understand, who in their right mind would not want to lucid dream anymore? I think it's beyond lacking the motivation for me, it's as if I really couldn't care less. Well, I want to lucid dream, of course, but I don't bother trying and then I kick myself later. Initially I figured I'd try to get myself to post here more and maybe that would spark an interest but that failed and I just can't get back into the swing of things. I haven't had lucid in months and I really miss it. Any advice for getting myself back into the swing of things?

Have you tried reading some new book about LDing? That usually fires me up. Get some new ideas from it, maybe a new LD goal? have you tried the competitions, like ToTM? Or trying a new method? If not, it's ok to take a break. Just keep up with your DJ so your recall doesn't drop. It will be easier to come back. Happy dreams

Well, inducing Lucidity is one of those things. You have to want it bad enough. It's really all up to you. Or, if you have little interest in putting in the required effort you could always try the supplement rout as many others do.

While I haven't exactly been trying to lucid dream and therefore don't do it regularly, I can feel emotionally burnt out from it and find myself deliberately waking myself all the time for a good few months or even half a year or more. The desire always returns after a while. Maybe you're feeling something similar, just a bit overtired from it? Then you're also worrying about it on top of that, which might in some way be exasperating the problem, kind of like a self-perpetuating thing. Maybe there are other things going on in your life to make you feel distracted?

Well, I feel I can't really give too much advice as I'm not knowledgeable on the topic but it sounds like you just need to take your time and not push yourself so hard. Maybe it's your mind's way of telling you that you need to maybe just relax and go with the flow for now.

It may just be a case of procrastination? I know I personally dislike writing my dreams in my dream journal by hand, especially my long ones. It tires out my hand, takes awhile to finish, covers my writing hand in pencil lead, and by the time I am done my writing is faded and slightly smeared on the paper (I'm left handed, if you're left handed and write left handed then you know exactly what I am talking about on my last two complaints).
I'd recommend finding the right kind of motivation, perhaps a movie or tv show, to really help you get in the mood.

My Lucid Dreaming Motto - "I have walked upon the the surface of a burning star. Observed events so infinitesimal and instantaneous that they can barely be described as having occurred at all. You... you're just a dream character. And this world's most powerful dream character poses no more threat to me than it's smartest cupcake." - Dr. Manhattan (kinda)

For me reading random DV DJs usually helps to keep up motivation.

      I know that feel bro.

In the last couple of weeks it has felt like the practice to get lucid kills my motivation. But when i woke up today, the things that went through my mind was something like this:

"I just can't get lucid at night, maybe i should go for some more naps since they seem to be the only way i can LD."

"But that would require me to get less sleep at night for me to be able to sleep in the afternoon."

"Sigh... i also slacked of last week. I didn't do any RC's or awareness training."

"5 LD's since September, is this even worth it."

"Well, maybe if i stopped slaking off like this and kept being consistent, i would also be able to see consistent results"

"But it takes so much time!"

"Well, YEA! But you also use alot of time playing games on your computer!"

"Yea, but that is because i like it."

"Don't you like the lucids you had? Didn't they open up a whole new set of posibilities?"

      "They did."

"Then aren't they worth using your time to achieve?"

      "They are."

"Then why can't you be bothered to do your practice? Why would you deny yourself something that you want?"

      "I got a point."

"Then get going! Write in your journal that today will be the day that you start being consistent with techniques and general practice. Make it official."

      And so i did.
Now i can't think of anything else than lucid dreams. I think it's all about sparking renewed motivation by wanting to go to that "special place" where anything is possible.

Hope you find that "spark" again!
      /cheers

Hey Taffy, I know dat feel as well. Every once in a while I get caught up with other things that I don't really try to induce lucids anymore, then I blame myself for it. I guess that's the hardest thing about lucid dreaming. It's hard to get lucid, but it's harder to stay lucid. What helped me before was reading my DJ, and watching cool videos with clips of things that made me want to do them in lucids. I talk to other lucid dreamers a lot on the DV chat, and I think talking to other lucid dreamers and sharing experiences really help.

      Good luck

If you're feeling really burnt out on it, just take a break. Eventually the inspiration will hit you again, it always does. There's nothing wrong with taking a break. Another thing I like to do is to read everyone elses dream journals and lucid experiences. That usually gets me a little more motivated to keep trying. Hopefully it works for you Good luck!

      Climb once, fall twice
      Lucidity: slippery as mice
      As ephemeral as a kiss
      Something you'll always miss
      Remember your first time,
And quitting will never be fine
How we dare then, to loose the sight
      Of lucidity: this amazing insight?
      I think it's like life,
Work hard for a future bright
Just picture lucidity as a transformation,
If you're tired of it, follow by creation
Inspire yourself, think outside the box
A fight with a dream guide, filling your face with botox
Sure there's a small price to pay,
Like there was when we bought Fifty Shades of Grey
So you see, it's not wrong to think,
That motivation can vanish, that sometimes it can sink
Keep a routine, which easier will become
After months of pratice, a lucid per week is sure to come
      Wanting is just not enough,
Try hard you if try, so your brain doesn't think it's a bluff!
Remember that lucidity is merely a portal,
So come up with ideas, they'll make your desire immortal
      Books, movies, anything can apply
If nothing works, go for a lucid just to eat a tasty pie

You get the idea hopefully xD *runs away*

      ^ that was great.

Regarding taking a break, I've been there before, didn't help.

@paige maybe I should go to chat one time. Come to think of it, I haven't been in chat once since I joined. Could spark some inspiration.

@buhl That's nearly identical to my situation. I'm going to make an effort to get back into journaling.

Thanks or the inspiration, guys, I'm going to try really hard, I'm feeling it come back to me already.

To be honest the best inspiration I can get is from watching anime. It makes me want to lucid more than anything.

I feel obliged to inform you that my newly sparked motivation as described above, resulted in me having my most vivid and long LD to date! It happened this morning and i am 100% sure that it happened because of the hype i felt yesterday!
I will start up a journal when i have the time.

Accept that this is something you WANT, and you will have it!

Wow, congrats! *does RC* Going to give it my best shot now. I do miss how much fun I had LDing in the past.

@brandon I've drawn inspiration from anime in the past, there's always neat things to take from them.

      Give yourself a break!

I've been doing it for so many years I've lost count of the times I "gave up" lding. I think it's impossible for a person to stay really into something constantly. You'll go thru phases so just give it a break for now. Otherwise I'd say watch some cool films with a reality twist edge.
