It was probably just awareness |

I've had two ld's when this has happened. Just one moment in a dream I stop and look around at my surroundings. Nothing necessarily looks weird but it just comes to me that I'm dreaming. Suddenly I'm just telling myself that I'm dreaming and then I'm lucid. Any ideas? |

I'm back! Again? Uhhh..
I rarely do a reality check when becoming lucid. The way my mind seems to work, I just become lucid spontaneously. |

Most of my lucid dreams come spontaneously, without any reality checks. A couple dreams have become lucid only because of RCs, but they are the minority for me. Maybe I'm not doing them right lol. |

I've never gotten lucid using an RC only, there was always a spark that happened before doing the RC. |

If you read this do a reality check, you will thank me later...
RCs are not the only way to become lucid, nor do they seem to be the most common. They're simply a tool. In some dreams, you just simply know without having to check that it's a dream. Other times, the situation may seem so real that a reality check is the only way to be certain. I have had both scenarios to occur almost equally. |

It's true, you don't need to do RC's in a dream to become lucid - but it's important to keep doing them during waking hours to sharpen your awareness. They're kind of symbolic in a way - it's use a symbol that you're really thinking about your state of consciousness and questioning whether you're awake or dreaming. If you don't so this enough while awake then you're less likely to achieve liquidity. So be sure to keep up the daytime practice. Then doing RCs to confirm you're dreaming when you think you are will add to your awareness in a dream when you do find yourself lucid. |

I have been becoming lucid just by awareness in dreams, by just knowing, but yeah consistent RCs are the most reliable way to have consistent lucid dreams. When I first started out I was doing RCs most days and ended up doing RCs in dreams. So I'd definitely agree that the work is done while awake! |
