Low Attention Span effects my lucid dreaming.

I began to attempt lucid dreaming about 5 mounths ago. Within the first 2.5 months i had already acheived the amount i currently have now, which is 10. I found this to be a good number considering that some people have a lot more trouble. The main reason that I think i got good results was because of how curious about lucid dreaming I was and how i saw it as a whole new world to discover. However after those 2.5 months I got bored and side tracked. Then I just stopped getting lucid and soon stoped dream journaling. I still try to lucid dream to this day. I have alarms set at night to wake me up for mild, but when I do get up I just have no motivation and just usually fall right alseep. Also things like awarness, RCs, and mantras are now morel like autamatic functions that I do because I feel I need to, like getting up for school every morning. I try to get back into lucid dreaming sometimes, but just end with failure after a day. Im wondering how peope on this fourm have been lucid dreaming for so long and get lucid so much. Have they never came across the time when LDing seems pointlessor do I just have a low attention span?

My last lucid dream was a month ago and I came close last night

people have dry spells, I was dreaming 1-3 times per weekend back in Oct Nov and Dec

usually things like stress have an effect

I would take these initial steps:

always dream journal / always try and remember dreams for at least 3 minutes after wake
pick some thing like seeing / hearing an emergency vehicle and then do RC for this always in real life it doesn't take any time
at least watch something read something about lucid dreaming before bed
at least tell yourself you will remember your dreams (or some such before falling asleep)

as your dream recall and journal improve, you might get lucky or at least motivated to set better intentions

also give yourself a cool goal

My highest priority goal is the behind the back hand hold summon:
As you walk along in your dream hold your hand behind you and say "come on Obscure hurry up we'll be late" then feel Obscure take your hand then pull them forward... It would also work with a Victoria's secret angel

I remembered it in one of my latest Lucids... but I was so unstable I expected if I stopped rubbing my hands together I would wake up... of course in a lucid dream expectation is everything... so as soon as I reached back I woke up...

Having a strong motivation won't necessarily lead to remembering this but always at least have a plan of some things to do in a lucid, and wanting to do something can improve your chances

Sure LUCID DREAMS are all fun and games until someone loses a third eye.

Hi Obscure, welcome to DV! From the things you've written above, it would seem that you may be having some motivational problems rather than a low attention span.

One of the first things to consider is why you personally want to ld. Think about all the awesome things you can do in your dreams, etc. Then do little things during the day that remind you of your ld goals. Get inspired, read about new places, watch movies that you can relate to what you want to do in dreams. That way, you will find it much easier to do all the induction work.

Me? What's my motivator? Apart from being able to do anything in an ld, I just like the feeling of being lucid. For me just being in an ld is enough to make me happy, and if I get to complete a task like totm or toty in the ld, that's an extra bonus. Even so, I have to admit that waking up to do a wbtb is never easy, but it's necessary.

This is a matter of comfort. It's like wanting to jump in water on a hot day. It's cold and uncomfortable at first, but once do it, after the uncomfortable shock, you get used to it and it feels good. Also, the satisfaction of having the courage to do it makes you feel that much better.

I'm pretty new to it too only about 3 months in... but this past week I haven't had the desire, my dreams have been boring, and I haven't journaled them. I had the most awesome dream/lucid dream I have ever had though a couple of weeks ago when i told myself right before bed (in a depressed state actually) that I need to have an LD just to keep my sanity. I desired it so much that I created it. It's like that with anything really... the more you desire the more you create. Desire = drive, and drive = creativity. Take breaks as needed though I feel. This past week was a break for me and I needed it... As soon as you have the energy to put back into though get back into it. I treat LDing like I treat the gym. Hit it hard for a few weeks until I feel burnt out... take a week off and give the mind a break from that focus, but get back into it before I lose focus. This is of course assuming LDing is something you still want to pursue. If you don't use it, you will lose it.

Obscure and RobertCox88 how long were your dreams, were you able to remember any goals, or achieve them

I almost had a lucid the other night, I was thinking this is a dream, then it went black, I went to stabilize but was already awake

I suppose I could count it as a lucid, but it would have been a ZERO seconds one he he so I decided not to count it. Goals achieved ZERO obviously

my dream was very short and I did at least try to do one goal.

Obscure: listen to Yoda! Don't "try", rather, "do!" And jumping in and out of LD effort just frustrates you and progress may never occur. Dedicate yourself to trying your very best, doing your very best, for a significant amount of time. Say, a year. At the end of that year, give yourself one day where you can quit, otherwise, if you don't, you're dedicating yourself for another year.

Don't be scared of the dedication: the time will pass anyway regardless of your choice. Wouldn't you rather that it pass with improving LD / dream abilities?

Yes many of us have moments where we think "what in the world am I doing this for?" but they are short moments. Having made a firm dedication helps. You're *not allowed* to quit except for that one day every year. That helps a lot! And remembering dreams every night is great, too.
