Question Dream Recording and it's Implications for LD

Scientists are becoming closer and closer to recording dreams and while I do not believe they will ever be able to recreate dreams with 100% accuracy, I do think that this could have a serious impact on the Lucid Dreaming community. I don't think it would replace Dream Journaling all-together, but I think it would increase accuracy and make it a lot easier for some people to get into LD and have their first LD. What do you think would happen as a result of dream recording devices?

Current imaging and EEG sensors are far from being able to record dreams like they do in films like Final Fantasy or Total Recall. We are decades, if not centuries away from such technology. There probably will never be a real dream recording device as there won't be a real lucid dream induction device (something you put on and get lucid every night).

      ^^ I wouldn't doubt science.

"Pretty soon not even your dreams may be private anymore. Japanese scientists have learned how to interpret what you're dreaming about by measuring your brain activity while you sleep. This data can then be plugged into an algorithm that reconstructs your dream so that it can be played back for you when you're awake, according to the Smithsonian.

In other words, scientists have invented a sort of dream-reading machine. Before long, you may never have to worry about forgetting what you dreamed about ever again. You'll be able to simply play your dreams back after you wake up in the morning."

Yes science is close to reading our dreams!

I want to be skeptical that we are anywhere close to a dream reading machine but we do already have rough estimates of what someone is seeing based on brain activity: Scientists Reconstruct Brains' Visions Into Digital Video In Historic Experiment If we can do that then I would imagine do something similar with dream visuals would be possible. We will have to just wait and see. The future often comes faster than expected.

quote from the article: "Again, the research is still in a rudimentary phase. So far these videos only represent crude approximations of the images from the subjects' dreams, but researchers claim that the machine’s predictions were still better than chance."
One will NEVER be able to reconstruct real dreams from scalp EEG measurement. If you have electrodes implanted in the brain, then maybe. But probably even then not.

Never say "never." While the technology necessary is unlikely to be developed in my lifetime (I'm 63), I've seen AMAZING advances during my life in technology, computers, medical imaging, and subjects potentially impacting the ability to perform "dream recording." Here's the thing, though...it's NOT a priority direction for the application of any one technologic branch of medicine, science, or computerized medical imaging. There's no economic incentive nor cognizable advantage to hacking into dream-scapes. Consequently even if and when certain fields of science and computers or medical surveillance/imaging ARE developed, they will not be focused upon, nor applied to dream recording.
