I would honestly recommend practicing getting into a quiet state of consciousness, so you can just DEILD with ease.

I'm gunna give you an enlightenment trick that I use to get to a place of stillness in any situation. If you do this, as a wee bonus you will actually be one step closer to enlightenment. But I'm writing it purely to help you quiet your mind.

You can see, hear and think things, right? You witness thoughts, right? Put your attention towards the witness itself, the pure awareness. Thoughts will arise but they are arising in front of the witness. The witness never changes, right? The witness is always silent and always still.

Root yourself in the witness, in the pure awareness. Root yourself here and everything else can just fall away. And like I said, thoughts will come, but just be the witness of the thoughts. Don't identify with the thoughts.

While practicing DEILD you can root yourself in the witness but also have the intention of going directly into a lucid dream. Be the witness of the intention. Be the pure witness of your mind repeating "I will go into a dream" over and over, and whatever else your technique involves. You are the witness of it no matter what, but when you identify as the witness (which is the true self, by the way) you become still as absolute zero.

Hope it helps, I'd just love to see you become successful with DEILD. I love DEILD
