      Your longest WILD/VILD

As stated in the title, simply choose one of the options depending on your longest lucid dream. I suppose that only WILD,VILD can be detected by a stopwatch or a clock. If you want to note something special or extra, please post it. You can also discuss what stops you or helps you in the length of your dream. You can also note if your longest Lucid dream was just a single phenomenon or constant regularity.

I don't try to do WILD because of sleeping disorders and anxiety issues. My sleep pattern is very unreliable. Contrary to popular misconception you do need to fall asleep to have a WILD lucid dream. I rely on DILD for lucids and also DEILD which is a kind of WILD in itself. I have chained over 7+ lucids. However, I never been able to properly log it. I just don't have a number.

I have no clue how long I actually am in the lucid dream state for. It would be so cool to be able to actually know that. But to estimate based on my subjective experience of the dream time, I think would be way off the mark.

How do you time a WILD or VILD?

How do you time a WILD or VILD?
I would imagine through taking note of time before and after the WILD. A successful WILD would mean you can be aware when you are attempting it and can take note after you wake up from the lucid dream. I'd imagine it will still be somewhat approximate depending on how long it takes you to do a successful WILD.

But then you wouldn't know how much time you spent leading up to the WILD, or how long it had been since you woke up and stayed still to recall it. Like if you lay down it might take you 20 to 40 or more minutes for the dream to begin. (or less, idk) But you don't know exactly how much.

I don't think there is any way to know exactly how long, it would still involve some guesswork. There are options for future with brainwave sensing wearables. ^^

Use my idea for timing WILDs to create an app please - just give me credit ha! The app would state the time periodically in a lower volume and you would use comfortable headphones like headband headphones or similar. When you enter full REM most outside sounds should be shut out by your brain (REM physiology) but you can still remember the time you last heard before you started transitioning to REM and then remember the time via the same app that should still be stating the time when you wake up...also allowing you to DEILD from there without waking up to look at the time.

My longest lucid dream was somewhere around 40 minutes I'd guess. I had a dream that felt like a whole afternoon of time with my Girl Friday but I am sure it was simply the way the dream made it feel because it seemed to fit within a normal REM period or two during a normal night's sleep. I voted the 36-45 range. Where are the stories from the votes with the really long experiences?

I would suggest against going by how long it felt as I have time-dilated dreams every now and then, recent being 7-year long. Anyway, the only problem I have with your idea is that it can become distracting and based on experience I can confirm you still hear sounds from waking while dreaming and outside sounds are not shut out. ^^'

      Oh! Pick me! Pick me!

there is an andriod app I use called "Tell me the Time" that can do this. it is free and there are no ads! I thought of letting it run all night on a very quiet interval speaking clock and seeing what that does... Maybe I will give it a try.

It would also be interesting if I heard the time announcement from within the dream. Sometimes outside sounds have got through to my dream. once I fell alseep with affirmations playing and had a dream about people saying affirmations the whole time. Other times its completely blocked out.

Our brain does a good job filtering out ambient noise around us, but sound do enter into our dreams, sometimes even integrating itself within it.

Anyway, there is one other way to to gauge how long the WILD lasts. It's simply to count every second from start of the lucid dream to finish without messing up. It might also help maintain stability and keep your mind active too. The longest I counted to is around 500. After which I was distracted, lost interest, or dream faded. I don't do this often.

Agreed, that's why I voted 36-45 minutes. That's awesome! Did you wake up disoriented?

Good point, some sounds do get through but the brain seems to be selective in what sounds it relays during REM so the idea may just work the way I mentioned and if the sounds do come through they could be an aide to stay lucid and time the LD. A cool article can be found by searching: scientist brain listens during sleep. In the article they also mention how one hemisphere of the brain often stays more active when sleeping in a new environment which could be useful for figuring out a way to increase lucid dreams.

Thanks for the app info. Let me know if you try it and I will let you know if I do.

I have experienced that and wondered if the sound that was integrated into my dream was during a brief mini-awakening or light sleep rather than in the middle of REM. I once had a dream (where I got confirmation after waking that there was a loud boom while I was sleeping) that seemed to create a whole story leading up to the boom making me initially wonder if the brain created the entire dream in the milliseconds that the boom lasted. I think the more likely scenario is that my brain created the dream later and "replayed" the boom at the end of the dream. I have also sworn there were sounds that were later confirmed not to have happened (son came into the room asking me something - wake up later - oh yeah, he's out of town!) so those sounds must have been HHs during lighter sleep or part of a dream, likely a false awakening.

I could see the counting idea being helpful if done in the right frame of mind (doing it while not worrying that time is running out).

Oh yes, totally disoriented. My SO also had time-dilated dreams and it was quite disorienting for her too. I posted my recent one on my DV dream journal. You can check it out if you wanna. It was am emotional ride. ^^

      Cool

At the beginning (05.2013) my WILD,VILD were short as most of you, but I started to build them. By the end of 2014, my longest dream was an hour. Then I had a huge dry period until the beginning of 2017 when my lucid dreams seemed to have started to evolve. At the end of the year, I reached up to three hours of WILD/VILD, but it was not only the length of time that changed but also the depth of dream. At the beginning of this year I had my first six-hour WILD and now I had eight hours a few weeks ago.

The most interesting thing is that my WILD/VILD does not fall apart by itself anymore, but only by my wish. (only fall apart if I die in the dream). If you ask how this is possible, I will say that I have a Delayed sleep phase disorder (DSPD) or I'm just a night owl. Normally I am falling asleep in 5 am. My chronic diseases keep me from having more from them right now.

I'll try to retell my dream in short way, because otherwise I will need at least a few pages. I started the chronometer and began to induce the WILD. The transaction was short and I find myself in the dream. I didn't lose any lucidity in entire time of the WILD.

I was in a room that looked like a living room. I looked around and saw a balcony. I went out to him and looked outside, it was evening. Apparently I was on the third floor, and there was another building opposite me, and there was a dark street in the middle, illuminated only by dimly lit lamps. At that moment three black jeeps were coming from the street and stopped in front of the opposite building and eleven masked and heavily armed men came out of them. They enter the building and in this moment I decided to follow them. I jumped from balcony and entered the entrance of the building. They climbed the stairs to the fifth floor, and I moved quietly behind them. They broke one of the doors on the floor and I heard a girl's scream. I hurried and went into the apartment and grabbed one of the men for his back while I was telling them "Hi".

The action was played in the living room. Everyone looked at me and said, "who are you." I told the girl to lay down as I grabbed the uzi from his hand and started shooting at them, using him as a shield. It turned in mexican deadlock. I shot three of them, and they made in holes their friend. As I took the pistol from his holster, I pulled the grenade pin attached to his waist and kicked him as much as I can. He bumped into two of his colleagues as the three of them came through the window and fell on the jeep with large explosion. I shot the one at my right in his right leg and the one next to him in his head. Everything happened so fast. I saw that the one in the opposite corner of the room had a grenade on the waist and shoot it. It exploded as legs and arms flew across the room from him and the one beside him. The room turned into a blood bath. The last one grabbed the girl as a hostage, shouting "Who the fuck are you," and I replied "the Death Ripper" and shot him between the eyes. I went to the girl by helping her get up and asked her "Are you okay" and she said "I think so." At that moment behind me, I heard how the one who I shot at his feet stood up and said "Die," but at that moment a SWAT Team blew the door. He tries to shoot at them but they empties their entire clips into him, turning him into a meatball. After them the chief of FBI and two operative agents came in. The girl screamed "Daddy" and jumped in his arms. He ask her "are you okay" and she nodded. He looked at me and ask "who are you. Are you one of them", the girl answered instead of me "he saved me". He looked at me again and come closer as grabbing my hand and say "thank you for saving my daughter" and continue "but how you did it" while looking at dead bodies, "these mans were highly trained assassins". I said to him "I can use special powers, because I am lucid", he looked me strangely and added "I see that you have potential. I have an offer for you, do want to hear me out".

At this moment medics took away the girl while she waved at me for goodbye in respond to her I smile.(while I call her a girl, she was at least on 22) I said "Ok no problem, I am listening" and looked at him. He continue "I lead a secret anti-terrorist fast response squad with codename OMEGA. Are you want to join in, your talent can be at great use to us" and looked at me with sharp eye! I responded "Ok, I am in", he looked pleased and added "I am glad. Then these two agents will escort you to your new home. They will tell you all details on the way". I got in one of these black car of FBI and they drove me to my new residence.(the city they drove through, felt really alive, like I was in the real world).

My apartment was on fifth floor, it was really big and modern. They explained to me that, the apartment contain special room for storing of weapons, ammunition, and equipment. In the middle of living room there was holoscreen for mission's briefing. They said to rest myself and tomorrow at 8am to be ready for additional orders. They left. I immediately went to check what kind of goodies contained the particular room. It was fitted with a fingerprint and a code that was kindly provided to me. The room was spacious and wide, and the walls were armored. Weapons and equipment were state of the art. There were pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, light machine guns, sniper rifles, grande launcher, even rocket launcher. There were full wall of explosives and grenades like c4,claymore, HE grenades, rockets, smoke grenades, flashbangs, sleep gas grenade. There were also armored vests, uniforms for undercover operations, night vision, thermal vision and many other stuff I didn't recognize. (every thing looked so detailed and perfect like in real world. And on top of that I was able to read every text.) I was totally tired from this adventure and while I was thinking about the beautiful girl, I fall asleep. (the bed was so comfortable).

I was awoken from the alarm clock, it was 6am.(For the first time I fall asleep in lucid dream without losing lucidity) I got up from bed and felt hungry. I went to the kitchen, thinking how detailed everything was. I made a sandwich and coffee, they had a real taste. Everything was very tasty. I thought to watch some TV, but at that moment the hologram screen turned on. Commander show up like holographic image. "special agent with codenamed "Zero," you have new orders. A building is captured by terrorists holding hostages. Terrorists have put explosives all over the building, so be careful. Your mission is to infiltrate the captured building, eliminate all enemy units, and save the hostages.A chopper will await you on top of the building, you have one hour to gear up. Good luck soldier." and the connection stop.(finally is time for some action) I go to the armory room and started to gear up. I chose some fancy submachine gun with silencer and laser pointing which can turn in single fire sniper, two HE-grenades,two flashbangs, full body kevlar with helmet and visual tactical support and thermal vision. I got in the elevator and got to the top of the building.

A black hawk chopper was waiting for me. This was the first time I seen a chopper from this close. I went in and took off. In the helicopter, there were five more soldiers in full combat. One of them looked at me and said, "Welcome to board a rookie," and the others laughed. "Today you will just inauguration, so just follow us and do not slow us down. I do not know why the Commander thinks you are so special that you do not get any training first." and looked at me, I smile and respond "Today you will see why". Suddenly, a green light shone into the cockpit, and the pilot said "Go go go you have green light" while he dropped some ropes. They all grabbed a rope and nodded to me, and I also grabbed. (I got large dose of adrenaline) We all went down to the top of the building next to the captured building.

We were gonna use pistol ropes and climb on the roof of the target, but in this moment I said to myself, "why I must do this, it's too troublesome, after all I am lucid". I dropped all my gear on the floor. I changed my eyesight to thermal and localized all the terrorists as I locked on them. I made eight bullets of compressed air in the palm of my hand and fired them at supersonic speeds, striking all the targets with a headshot. All the terrorists fell to the floor, while my comrades looked at me with shocked face and open mouth. The captain said "confirm all targets" and one of the soldiers took his binoculars and looked "confirming all targets are down, no wait there was one more terrorist in the toilet. He saw his dead comrades and it's about to detonate the bombs". "What we had done, shoot him now" the other said "there is not enough time, we can't do anything about it". I shouted "it's like I am gonna let you do it bastard" and make bigger ball of compressed psi energy and I shot her at him. The ball reached him when he press the button and expanded, containing the explosion. I send her in sky "fly" and release the explosion in the air. All my comrades looked at me with empty faces. I said "Mission complete captain. Are you see now why the commander chose me", he looked at me and didn't know what to say.

"But this is just small portion of my power, look what I gonna do now." and I stretched out my hand like a 'Jedi' and shouted to the opposite building "Scatter". The building scattered over hundreds of thousands of pieces without any blast or explosion. The captain looked like frozen and shouted, "What did you do, you would not get away with this just like that," the others pointed their guns at me. I said, "Do not worry so much about it, watch now." and I said loudly "Freeze," and all the pieces froze in the mid air, and then I added "Reverse". All the pieces began to go back and the building returned to its original look. (It was really impressive) They were already totally afraid of me now.

On the way back in the helicopter was a stony silence and no one wanted to look me in the eyes anymore. They left me on the roof of the building and flew away. I went to my apartment and started removing my battle clothes. I was in sweat all over (I never sweated in dream before, fascinating) and decided to take a shower. When I left the bathroom, someone rang at the the door.(who could be)

I opened the door "The boss daughter, what are you doing here. Come on in." and she came in, "I come here to thank you for saving me the day before and to warn you.". I said "What for" and she responded "I eavesdropped my father, after today mission they think you are dangerous and think what to do with you. Maybe you must run", I added "and what do you think Miss. Am I dangerous." and she responded "I think, I like you and my name is not Miss but Tanya." her face got all red. With red face she asked me to get close, to thank me. I get close "smooch", but I didn't expect of her to kiss me. "Ah you little devil" my face was red like tomato. I decided to fight back, so I hugged her and kissed her deep. I said to her "I don't care what they gonna do, because I am Lucid" and she responded "You always say lucid, lucid, but what is this lucid thing you are talking about", and I said "It's secret" while smiling. She grabbed my hand and pulled me to the bedroom, and we did ecchi stuff all afternoon. (I didn't know, I can do it so many times in a row )

After she fell asleep, I stayed a little longer in bed. I looked at her, she was facing me, she had a sleepy face. I stroked her hair as if she was a kitty and I sniffed her hair, this magic scent was more real than I imagined, which made me blush once more. Then I thought about what is reality and how this could only be a dream. I stayed for a while, one with the moment. I got up and took her pack of cigarettes she had left on the table (I've heard that a cigarette after sex is great, but I have asthma). I lit one and went to the balcony, outdoors was still bright and blowing a light breeze. Many people and cars were moving down the road, looking like a real breathing world. At this point, a melody "ding dong ding ding" was heard in the sky, and I said, "This is the melody of my alarm clock, it's time to leave this world". I turned back to see her face for the last time and said, "We can not be together Tanya, I'm sorry, farewell!" and woke up to stop the alarm.

Eight hours were passed since I started the stopwatch.

p.s. And I tried to make it shorter, now my head is spinning

^That was very fun to read! Very nice! I know there are people who will read that and think that you are simply a good story writer, but I have learned over the years not to doubt what is possible in lucid dreams due to my own path of progress in lucid dreaming. Once you achieve a certain level it is easier to see how the next level or two above that level is attainable. If you believe there are monks/sleep yogis that can stay lucid through all the stages of sleep (throughout the night, I believe this), then it opens up your mind to what you can achieve.

@Charles, I tried the spoken time app when first going to bed and although I wasn't able to maintain awareness into sleep it did seem to keep me aware at certain stages. For example, I heard the time for several minutes every minute (I set it to speak the time each minute) and then there were gaps, shorter gaps at first and then longer gaps where I missed some of the spoken times for 20 or so minutes I think it was. After an hour or so I turned it off. I am not all that great at WILDs though (DILDs are my primary method) and they are even more difficult at the beginning of the night so I may try it again during a WBTB to experiment further. I used headphones, but for anyone sleeping alone, you don't even need comfortable headphones - just your phone or device's speaker.

You are correct in general case, but this doesn't apply to me anymore. With my newly created technique - VILAPD, one can lucid dreaming while still awake. Of course this is a lot more complicated than normal VILD. This can supersede the experiment with blinking, while lucid dreaming.

I for one don't doubt that at all as I have personally experienced hyper realistic dreams that are often very cinematic, even very time-dilated ones. It's one of the main reasons I don't post most of my dreams on dream views.

I find it a bit unusual, but not unbelievable. I have various sleeping disorders and I am only able to sleep past 10AM most days and am awake at night. Only times I can go to sleep earlier like 5AM or so is when I take my anxiety meds and melatonin together. Most people are limited by their sleep cycles. We don't sleep continuously. There are moments in the night (or day for those of us with DSPD) when we wake up. I read the dream you posted and in it you seem to have "slept" so it's possible the other half of the dream may have taken place at a later stage of sleep. There are fast and slow wave sleep stages. We usually dream during fast wave sleep. it is possible to dream in non-REM, but If we wake up in slow wave sleep we tend to be groggy. From the stuff I read from your posts you seem to go beyond the normal sleep stages and DSPD doesn't quite explain it as I to have a severe case of it. I go without sleep for days too, REM rebound could be a possible case if you go without sleep for a long time. I have experienced very lengthy REM stages because of REM rebound when I miss sleep for 3+ days or so. Sure sleep stages can be different for everyone, but it's very abnormal to have continuous fast wave sleep that lasts hours, like 6+ hours etc. I'm not asking you to explain yourself or saying you are confused, just pointing it out. I would very much like to experience 6+ hour lucids that are not time-dilated. On that note I'll like to add that I have gone to "sleep" multiple times in my time-dilated dreams.

I was talking about regular people, not people who evolved past human constraints like you. XD

Could you elaborate what VILAPD stands for? ^^

If you are talking about non-lucid dreams, 95% of my ordinary dreams are like Triple-A Movies. If I team up with Steven King, we can make a total blockbuster.

I can admit that not all of the WILD was in the rem-phase, maybe that's why it was so stable.

VILAPD stands for Visual Induced Lucid Alpha Phase Dream. It happened to me accidentally while I was trying to VILD and since then I started experimenting to able to achieve him by will.

      The Dream:
I tried to vild and got the sensation of floating, in the dark I saw a man walking up ahead below me. Slowly I float and enter into his head (like a ghost), and look through his eyes. I was in some corridor with a lot of doors and benches, there were a lot of people waiting to enter in these doors. A man on the right asked me if I also waiting for this door. I am answering him that I just passing by. I move ahead and went to end of the corridor. A man come out from last room and I enter. It was a big office with two desks, a woman from the left desk asked me if I'm next and I say yes. Then she responds that my documents are all good and I am ready to go 'up', in that moment the woman from the right desk call me and asked me why I want to go 'up' so badly. I just give her a stare look and wondered what was happening here. At that moment I hear a loud voice and opened my eyes, it was my mom. She was asking me to get up already, but I closed my eyes again pretending I am sleeping. To my wonder I was in the same spot and the woman from the right still waiting for my response. I started to wonder what was that state of mind and tried to turn him into LD, like making a teleport out of the close man-size mirror. But it didn't work and now both women waiting for the response I didn't have. I get frustrated and open my eyes again and got out of bed.

All the time I heard my mother and brother argue in the room, and I also felt my body. If I open my eyes, say something or move my hand, the dream did not fall apart.
