      Question Too many lucids...

      Hey everyone!

I've not been on this website for awhile now, and it feels good to be back!

Anyway, I've had so many lucid dreams (I'm not trying to boast) that i keep mixing up dreams up with reality... Somehow, i just get the feeling that i'm dreaming, and i know i am when i am, its like a warm, hazey feeling, and it feels great. But i can't keep track of whats real and what's not.

Like one time, me and my family were watching a film together, and a black cat, APPEARED FROM NOWHERE and was stood there watching us (it happened to be a horror movie we were watching) And i was convinced i was dreaming, and saying things to my sister like 'Go on! hit me!, its fine, i'm dreaming'

...Anyway, turned out that the window was open and the neighburs cat just wondered right in. I felt like such an idiot!

There have been so many times where i remember things that aren't true, that have only happened in my dreams, but have felt SO REAL.

Basicly.. Does anyone else feel the same way i do? It feels like i'm on overload and i don't know whats actually happening anymore....

      Thanks for reading!

That's why you do a reality check ! make sure you really are dreaming.

One of my fears I used to have about Lucid Dreaming. What if I got to the point where I couldn't distinguish between reality and the dream anymore? Until I realized that all I had to do was an indiscreet LD to check and I'd know =p

Seconded. I suggest you take this seriously.

What's the use of lucid dreaming if you don't live a lucid life?

yeah before I started LD-ing i'd have small 'unimportant' memories that I wasn't sure if they were real or not.
TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus
      TOTAL LD's (almost all DILD/MILD) =160!!

Do a reality check to prove whether you're dreaming or awake!

I personally do two every time... Plug your nose and try to breathe through it. If you can, you're DEFINITELY dreaming. You can also try to put your right hand through your left (or vice versa) and if you can, DREAMING. X3 Those are the most effective ones for me.

I'll try those. I also have 3 that always work for me..

      1) Reading anything, turning away then reading it again. The letters always change.

      2) Leaping. For me the earth's gravity is like the moons so I always kind of float back down.

      3) Switching on a light. They either don't work or come on very slowly.

I'd be careful with that "is this a dream or not" question. You don't want to jump off of a building only to discover that "this is not a dream".

Don't worry, there is no true reality.

True, but think about it. It depends on how you feel. As long as you're normal(ish) then you might want to have "a life". Although I fully support people to be who they want to be, most have similar ideas of how to live life... so we have a society and specific norms. As fun as being eccentric is, there is a difference between the dream world and the real world. So even if philosophically there is no true reality, you might want to be careful of what you do in real life. Screaming "Hit me, hit me! I'm dreaming!" won't be seen as normal and you might land in a mental institution (I'm exaggerating, but I'm just trying to make a point.). If I expand my drastic example... If you have total control, then have fun. Otherwise you might have a hard time convincing yourself that everything is fine while being laughed at, being feared or getting locked up somewhere due to your behavior.

Sorry for making a big deal out of your statement. Just saying: If you don't perceive life according to your philosophy, it's best not to try it at all. Although I personally agree with you, "I don't have the guts" to put it into practice.

I sometimes have a hard time telling if things I remember happened in a dream or in RL. Mundane stuff like conversations I've had with people.

That cat appearing in your house was too funny! Telling your sister to hit you because it's a dream, lol!

The best RC that works for me is think about how I got in the present situation. If I'm not dreaming, I will know exactly how I got here and why. If I'm dreaming, I'll realize that I have no idea where I am or that I do not remember what I did before being there.

If you are having serious trouble being sure that your waking reality is real, and trouble remembering which memories are dreams and which were reality, I strongly suggest that you see a therapist, especially if this is causing distress. At the very least, talk to your parents about it.

man you need to go to a doctor.

      Really.

      You could have schizophrenia/latent schizophrenia...

      I hope that's not.

      i'm being serious.

This is quite an old thread. I don't think Nothing is coming back lol!

The same thing happened to me back when I was a teenager. I ended up so confused that I gave up lucid dreaming for ages

Yeah, WHEN I become lucid, I'll be doing about 20 reality checks before I do anything stupid...like moon my teachers.
