Doing RCs but not becoming lucid!

I frequently do RCs in a dream, am surprised by the results, but do not become lucid! What should I do?

I think you managed to induce a dream about RCs but not the function of the RC. I am also sometimes able to induce elements of lucid dreaming into my dreams but not the idea of being lucid. I can get the wrist watch in the dream, the light I use to RC or idea of lighting into the dream but not the act of RCing or anything lucid dreaming related. But when I set my mind on a specific task to do in the lucid dream I do get lucid on my own and carry it out in the dream. So I think it has to do with intention to do something in the dream as a result of being lucid rather than wanting the dream to be about RCing to be lucid.

I do the RCs, but don't become lucid. But tonight I'm gonna put my intent on hypnotizing a DC in my lucid, in response to your suggestion. Mabye I'll turn him into a chicken or get him to tell everyone that I'm the master of the Universe so those DCs better behave. And I'll touch any so-called heros so they freeze rock solid. No one will stop me! Mwahahahaha !

Actually, i think its because your mindlessly doing RC's without reminding yourself WHY your doing them. The point of an RC is to check your reality :] otherwise its just a repeated action with no meaning. remember to ask yourself "am i dreaming?" before doing an RC and only do an RC when you feel like you might be dreaming. Or something weird happens when your awake!

Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible.

What reality checks are you doing that aren't working?

I only use RCs to confirm the fact that I'm dreaming, after a burst of awareness. That's what actually triggers lucidity for me.
Now, I only do one RC a day, if I even remember to do one; this is so I don't forget what the RCs are.

Practice on being aware of everything around you and not making RCs a strict habit. They're not required for lucidity in my opinion.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Much like Demara, the large majority of people only use RCs to double check that ti is a dream, so you don't end up trying to jump out your window trying to fly and ending up with a broken leg

I had this issue for a long time too, and I found that I could resolve it by focusing hard on what I was doing when I rc'd, as opposed to just doing them without really thinking about the purpose behind it. Do them slowly, and focus on what you are trying to accomplish through using them.

Yah, for me, RC's don't work. I can do them every 10mins when awake, but if it becomes routine in your dream you'll do an RC, but not think about it because it's a routine for you. So that's why I don't even bother with them. Being aware of surroundings doesn't seem to be my trigger either. I could be standing in a field and suddenly become lucid

You just have to find something that works for you. Try doing RC's every hour, try being aware of your surroundings. If one thing doesn't work, move onto another test. You'll find something that works

Another thing is to keep a DJ (dream Journal). Try to make notes of as much as you can. SOme people have reoccuring things like water, so everytime that person sees water when awake, they will RC, and hopefully that carries over into your dream I've been keeping a DJ since Oct 09 and have found nothing that's reoccuring really... (wonder if I should make a post about that... )

Most people tend to do mindless RCs, so they tend to fail even if they get into the dream? What Skydreamer said basically <.<
So yeah, try questioning reality while doing a RC.
Also, do NOT make timed RCs, that makes an habit and it becomes incredibly easy to do a RC out of habit because of this in dreams, so you wouldn't become lucid.

I never do timed RCs. Mainly because I'll be in detention if my phone or iPod goes off every hour. However, I think my RCs have become a bit of a habit.

Thanks for the replies, everyone, much helpful info
