Exclamation Tips on overcoming SP fear :/

I'm really new , I've been reading plenty of tutorials and threads and everyone seems to have different techniques, views and experiences on how to attain LD. I am really blown away by the seemingly infinite possibilities of LDing. But being a high school student who wakes up at 5:30 am I don't have much time to wake up 5-7 hours in my sleep to try to WILD. But my friend told me about tricking my body into sleep while keeping my mind awake. Thus putting myself into sleep paralysis. I have had one very short and unwanted SP episode which lasted a minute I'd say. (At least that's how it felt like) I had no visions , sounds , etc... It's actually what initiated me to the world of sleep. The technique my friend told me is to lay still and not move for 15-20 mins, no matter how much my body desires to shift position. I tried it but i was knocked out by my excitment as i felt the initial effects. But now I'm scared that if I try this technique and actually put my body to sleep that I will be greeted with terrifying visions, sounds of pure evil and impending doom as i am in SP. I desire to LD and live some positive OBE's , soothing, exciting and marvelous experiences not terrifying , nightmare-ish and traumatizing ones. Has anyone tried this technique I speak of? If so , will i live such horrors? Will I be able to LD? I know I may sound noobish but I really am new and the only things that are limiting me is time and mostly fear of being trapped in a hellish experience. I just need tips on where to go to live an amazing sleep experience.

Welcome to the forums, I've experienced Sleep Paralysis plenty of times, I can assure you it is not scary unless you make it scary. I have never once experienced demonic figures nor demonic voices and you will definitely not be trapped in a hellish world. Just keep your head up and keep a positive outlook, you'll be fine.

Yea.. If you really think you're gonna have a bad experience, chances are, you will. I'm a nooby so I can't really say much but don't be scared. I've experienced it and turned out to be pretty cool.

It can always be worse. You might suddenly experience SP without having a clue what it is, instead of knowing that it's just a natural state while you're asleep (that happened to me a few years ago, and it's probably one of the most terrifying experiences anyone on this forum has had xD).

I can't vouch for the effect of "if you think you'll have terrible visions, you will" because I've expected bad things and instead got really serene hallucinations.

Read up on SP and how it connects to lucid dreaming as much as you can; the better prepared you are, the more surprised than scared you'll be when the SP hits.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Sleep Paralysis is not that scary honestly. I have had the evil fearful sensation experiences but then quickly turned them positive and enjoyed the experience All you have to do is expect the best and expect a positive outcome!

Yeah , I guess I have to head out there with a positive mindset. And I mean knowing that all these experiences are natural will probably help too, I've never read on someone being actually harmed by these SP experiences no matter how scary they were. I have to give it a try, it's such a big world out there and I can't wait to start experiencing. Thanks !

I started reading about LD in response to my past experiences. 1) My wife having "stressful dreams and 2) My terrible sleep(ish) phenomena I had as a kid. I used to wake up in my bed when I was very young, paralyzed yet fully awake. Every inch of my body felt as if it were being encapsulated by sharp cubic shapes and I would hear a terrifyingly loud groaning/roaring noise. It's been twenty years since I had that experience, but I remember it as if it just happened. Of course that was bad SP. I'm starting all this now because I believe that intentionally participating in them while keeping a healthy and positive mindset is key to getting over it. So, good luck to us! I'll post my results as time goes on. I'd be interested to know when you overcome your fears too.

The really bad sleep paralysis experiences are normally the unexpected ones, where you wake into paralysis. Transitioning from wakefulness into sleep paralysis, and then into a dream doesn't normally cause the same type of hallucinations. You are normally aware of what is happening, and focused on entering a dream.

In fact, many people argue that it is impossible to voluntarily enter sleep paralysis. The hallucinations that you may experience in the early stages of a WILD are not technically Sleep Paralysis. We just refer to the state as such, since it is similar.

Question I have a question too...

I have tried going into SP tonight, it worked (kinda) and it was really weird. I started to feel as if my hands were made of plastic, or weren't even there! And once I got into SP I was REALLY awake, like, more awake than before I got into SP. I sorta lost it because I was a little freaked out and because it was taking quite long (40 minutes, I checked it after losing SP). Also, I couldn't keep my body absolutely still, my body twitched a little all the time. Are there any tips for this 'technique'?
