      Finally Getting Started

      Greetings Dream Views,

I found this site a few weeks ago through a reddit post claiming that it had some great posts on how and where to start. From what I've seen so far I'm very excited to try some of the suggestions in the posts I've seen and continue looking into the rest of the site.

I've been looking into lucid dreaming for about a year to no avail. Mostly my fault I think due to the fact I never really kept a good journal. I'm hoping that with the journal part of this site and the great posts that I have been finding I will be able to start really getting into dreaming.

Over the last couple of weeks I've been using some of the suggestions I've found here and have had a huge increase in dream recall and vividness. I have only ever had two dreams that I have become lucid in and in both cases I woke up far too quickly.

If anyone has any suggestions of things to check out on the site or of anything dealing with dreams in general please let me know. I'm very excited to get started getting familiar with the site.

      I would check out http://www.dreamviews.com/f20/beginn...eaming-124786/
also, spend some time reading up on various techniques such as MILD

Browsing the wiki couldn't hurt either.

A few handy-dandy pieces of advice
      1- Stay persistent
Chances are that you won't get the success you're looking for right away, don't give up, just keep at it.
      2- Don't go technique jumping
Read through as many technique tutorials as you'd like then settle one or two that you will make your's. Then personalize them for your own success. If something really doesn't work- then sure, find a new method. Just don't make a habit of doing that. It will take time for you reap the benefits of your work
      3- Ask questions
We're here to help, feel free to ask as many questions as you want. Be sure to also check out previous forum threads, since others may have had the same question as you.
      4- STAY POSITIVE
Never see nights with little recall as failures, see them as a work in progress.

      Good luck and happy dreaming!

October really knows what she's talkin about! Listen well!

And if I may add, I would recommend starting with the DILD technique; it makes learning other, harder methods (like WILD) easier!

Indeed, as he says above, but if you fail with DILDs after a few months, then do try the WILD technique. For me, I have far higher success rate with WILDs than I do DILD... seems more intentional and certain to begin with.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Having a dream journal is indeed important. After you check out the suggested Beginners guide and decide on induction technique, you can read more details about it in the Wiki. Great classes and material is in DV Academy. Here is a tutorial for all things you need for a DILD (should you decide to start with this technique).

And waking up too soon from your first few lucids is normal. Once you have more of them and learn to keep your excitement in check, they will get longer. Stabilizing a dream also helps with making it longer. Feel free to post any questions. Happy dreams

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been reading over the links and they seem really helpful, this looks like it was the right place to start. I have tried the WILD technique before, but I got freaked out because I thought sleep paralysis was only not being able to move I didn't realize hallucinations came with it. I heard knocking and saw weird faces and started thinking my room was haunted. I think I'll try to get some more experience with dreaming before I really try it again. Now I'm thinking of really trying out this ADA.

Yep, these hallucinations and sounds are a good sign that you're in between the real world and the dream state. Quite a few people get freaked out -- though there is nothing to fear. You'll get the hang of it. ^_^ Either way, it's great that you've already had success with inducing sleep paralysis.

As with ADA.... that's incredibly taxing. >.< But it's a solid method to enhance self-awareness in the dream state. No pain, no gain though, right?
