Welcome to the forum!
So i joined here to try and learn from you all, and gain some power over them. So i dont wake up so sad each night. And maybe then work out why i have them.
I think working out why you have them could go a long way to changing them. Understanding can resolve a lot of feelings.
A good hobby or interest saturating your mind can also help. A good distraction can give the brain time to resolve feelings without directly concentrating on them. The forum does it for me but any good interest will work as long as it matters to you.
Like you I have kids and I can think of many days where thoughts plague my mind, both awake and asleep. It happens when I fill my mind with thoughts that keep me from being calm or at peace. Anything to distract from that can make a real difference.
Pick one of your dreams...just one....and take it apart in detail. Write it out, think about it while awake, speak it out loud and acknowledge it. Only one of the dreams at a time. Pick it apart until the details don't mean anything. Like the dream about being in the car...take each tiny thought and associate it with something else or think about the steering wheel as another kind of wheel like a bicycle tire. The new associations will help break the dream cycle.
Learning to lucid dream and have control is a great way to break the cycle of recurring dreams. Using the tutorials in our WIKI can really help, and the forum is filled with valuable experience. Combining that information with some new thoughts should help turn your nights into something more enjoyable.
I'm a staffmember here at DreamViews and I can help guide you to information or answer questions. You can contact me or any staffmember directly by clicking on our profile name to send us a private message. We're here to help.
