Welcome
I have written about my view of lucid dreaming here: Yoga Nidra or Conscious Sleep - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
But that is only what I have learned based on my experience, don't take what I am going to say as fact just think about the meaning of it for a moment.
When I first started out I was super excited and full of expectations and I tried all the forum members methods for lucid dreaming, but the downside of that is that if you don't succeed the night you have been waiting for well then you will get discouraged. And I need to make it clear for you the nights I succeed with DILD technique the indirect way of becoming aware after you already have start dreaming, those night were the nights I didn't expected it to happen and the night I didn't actively foucsed on lucid dreaming.
So the dicourage is actually one of the big reasons of why you will fail. That doesn't mean that you can just go to sleep and get a lucid dream but it actually gives a higher chance than if you fall asleep expecting it. So it's a doozy
However what I have realized is that there is a way to actively intend but passively do it.
Two important factors that can make a big difference is your bedtime and your way of falling asleep.
It depends on what sleep patterns you have, so I can't name a specific time that is ideal, but the main idea is that it's fairly regular and not too late! (My ideal bedtime is 22:00 on weekdays)
And what I mean by way of falling asleep is that you don't for example fall asleep with a stressed mind or lots of things on your mind.
This thread is a way of get rid of daily worries outside of the bed: http://www.dreamviews.com/f15/if-you...ams-try-93005/
and meditation is a way of getting rid of daily worries while your in bed, but can of course be done anywhere.
By meditation I mean that you acknowledge your thoughts and go to sleep calmly without a worry on your mind. I have written lots of posts about that, so just look around the forum for that
In summary: Go to sleep peacefully and don't actively focus on the lucidity in itself, focus on the awareness of the dream itself which is the bridge to lucidity and the more dreams you remember the more dreams you were aware of. You can still repeat a mantra or affirmation if you feel like, but don't put too much weight on it, by knowing what lucid dreaming is and doing a passive attempt is already setting the intention in your mind to get aware in the dream.
When you do this the lucidity will come to you. And you're no longer forcing it which in turn wont lead to frustration.
But to understand what lucidity is you need to understand what it means to be aware, this is one of the things you are practising when you keep a Dream Journal.
But again, don't try to look at the perspective of time, but in the perspective of the mindset. When you count the days it's easy to get into the wrong mindset. It's different for everyone, but in average a moment of awareness in a dream can occur after a few days or a few weeks.
But with the wrong mindset a stable long lasting lucid dream can take months or years.
If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask.
Sweet dreams!
