Thread: Do you type the way you talk?

Yes. And no. Mostly no.

They're different methods of communication. Different nuances and impacts.

Saying things aloud allows you to do certain things. Gloss over things said quickly, make asides to the select few, use comedy accents, shout, whatever.
Typing them means doing different things to express these things. To get the effect you want.

Spacing, punctuation, formatting, taking care over how words look rather than how words sound.

Things like that.

Yeah, more or less. Of course when you post you have a bit more time to think about what you're about to say, which may lead to a better formulation or a decision to shut up instead. But yeah, mostly.

I certainly do not.
I talk in short bursts, and everything I say is genius. People have mind-expanding spiritual experiences just by my words, alone.
But when I get on here, I sound stupid.

Though I don't really use much slang from where I'm about.

I'm sarcastic in real life to people I know, and I'm 100 times more sarcastic on the internet. I'm the same way I guess, I just get more chances to express it on the internet.

I don't think he's asking "are you just as nice in real life as you are on the internet?" but rather, "do you type the way you speak?"

Like, do you say "y'all" in real life, but type "you all" online?

and when typing im not sure, i got the conclusion, no, i do not. I would NEVER say, 'im not sure' id say, iunno.

Yes and no. I have never really been that great a speaker. I have this sort of affliction where I can never adequately express what I'm feeling, through words - especially when it comes to something deep. It's like trying to funnel a million thoughts through just a handful of sentences. I never really feel like I'm saying what I mean to say, concisely. Also, the way I talk tends to change a little, depending on my surroundings and who I am with. It's nothing drastic, but I tend to use different terms and expressions, depending on I'm in discussion with. But, with that being the case, my text tends to change a bit, as well, depending on what I'm trying to say or who I'm talking to.

All in all, though, I don't think I type the way that I talk, because I can actually think about what I want to say, in detail, when I'm typing. I tend to get my thoughts out better. It's like the difference between writing song lyrics and freestyling them. I can do both, but my text tends to be so much more detailed and articulate.

I am going to observe myself and see if i do hahaha

I'm not entirely sure, I'll have to start making comparisons from now on. Like Seroquel, I type more than a talk (speak?) so there's that.

Well in that case, obviously not. In real life I use another language...

I find it easier to express what I'm thinking if I type it out... Punctuation seems to be more effective than voice emphasis and tone in a lot of cases.

I used to, not anymore though.

I do tend to write my slurs actually... quite a few times I've found myself writing bizarrely, though correctly, contracted words...

I type as I talk with one exception. I don't really say "aye", for yes, IRL but I use it all the time on -line.
I'm a better "speaker" on-line though than in RL. It takes my brain too long to find the right words. Message boards allow me time to thoroughly process everything to my comfort.

I don't say lol etc when I speak, but my face is expressive or I make sound effects to better convey the feeling behind my words. But if I'm writing in a journal or something, I'll use "lol".

If post edits are verbally relayed as "On second thought, what I meant to say was this.." then yes, I type the way I talk all the time. -adjusts glasses-

Not really.

In real life I speak like "aye well ah talk liht 'iss n stuff"
note that liht is the best way I can type it's pronunciation. It's just "like" with a scottish slang/accent to it, and same with 'iss, being "this".
The fact I need to explain it this much is the reason I don't type like that, lol.

I swear much more IRL than I do online, btw.
