Thread: Have you ever said "Laugh out Loud" or "lol" in real life?

Ugh.... now "fail" I have come to use. A lot

I don't really consider 'fail' as net-speak, though, even though the meme pretty much came from the internet. It's just as valid, through normal dialogue. It's just things like "LOL", "WTF", "OMG", "LULZ", "LOLLERSKATES", "TTYL", "BRB" etc. that I consider net-speak, because they are exclusive to text, and not actual speech.

"Fail"ure is universal, though.

Well at least it's an actual word, not an abbrvtn.

I don't think there are any besides 'lol' that I pronounce in my head as a word on its own. It technically stands for 'laugh out loud', but I stopped thinking of it like that long ago. 'lol' has become a new word, to me at least. All the others, like 'wtf' and 'brb', I say 'what the fuck' and 'be right back' in my head when I see them.

But oddly I just remembered recently using 'brb', even though I hear 'be right back' in my head, I said 'be are be' once.

Yeah, some can be said as words in themselves - like lool or lulz. And I do think of brb as the letters in my head, though I would never say it like that.

Yes I do. Though I'm not really loling at the time it's more of a chuckle and then I say lol.

I sometimes even say lmfao in a sarcastic way to my brothers when they are really not funny. It also has that nice Chinese touch to it "Lm Fao"

I only say it if i'm taking the piss. Other than that, it just annoys me. Same with people saying "soz" or "cba" or something like that IRL. Just really sets my teeth on edge.

edit: Except if I should happen to be talking about WoW. Then I sound like the 15 year old dork I was when I got into it, and speak as if in chat in-game.

Why would you even need to use IRL IRL? Unless you're comparing something to how you'd act on the internet or something.

Sometimes you need to say stuff like "Damn, it's much harder to talk to girls IRL"

Ive said "lol" a few times IRL in BIG groups.... And it wasn't long before i got the piss taken outta me

I don't think I ever have, besides quoting something or whatever, haha.. I almost always pronounce abbreviations as words in my head though. Like brb = burb.

r.o.f.l (i almost never say that tho )= rawfull

and so on

but not for all of em

Until a couple years ago, I always pronounced 'lol' to rhyme with 'bowl' or 'toll'. Then I heard other people saying it like 'lawl', to rhyme with 'small' or 'wall'. I think I still pronounce it the way I used to when I see it written, it still feels the right way to me. But when I say it aloud to someone, or to myself, I'll always use 'lawl'.

A few days ago I seriously almost said it when my dad said something stupid, but stopped myself. Then this thread was created and everything manifests.

Whenever I read "lol" I literally read it in my head as "laugh out loud". Same for everything else pretty much.

Only if I'm feeling particularly lame.
