      Elevator Crushes Woman To Death

      AFSDFSD

New York elevator accident: Madison Avenue ad exec Suzanne Hart crushed to death | Mail Online

A woman was crushed to death today in a freak elevator accident when it began rising as she stepped into it.
Suzanne Hart, 41, from California, who worked at advertising giants Young and Rubicam who have their offices in the building, was halfway onto the elevator when it shot upwards without warning, its doors still open.
A fire official said she was 'mangled up really bad' and was pronounced dead at the scene.
I hate elevators. I often have dreams I get in them and they start tilting and twisting, or falling.

IRL I have to always be to the side of the elevator near the doors so I can get out quickly, I have always had this hangup that it would close on me or it would suddenly move and crush me.

NOW IT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO SOMEONE. I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO REASON THAT IT CAN'T HAPPEN EVER AGAIN.

Maybe I'll use the stairs for uh, I dunno, forever.

When I saw this thread I immediately thought of that final destination scene.

I also dislike elevators. I know that most of them have sensors so that kind of thing won't happen, but I've been afraid of bringing dogs on leashes. Imagine getting in with a dog, then closing the door but the dog runs out and its leash is stuck ... There'd be nothing you could really do, and the dog would end up squished or being hung, unless there was someone else outside who saw what was happening and took the leash off the dog.

In relation to the Final Destination scene:

There was a (true) story in Houston, TX, a while back, where a woman was in an elevator, waiting for the doors to close. A medical colleague came and tried to catch the elevator before the doors closed, and got caught by the shoulders. The doors malfunction and the elevator raised with his shoulders trapped. It ended up decapitating him, just above the jaw, and the woman was stuck in the elevator with his severed head for X-number of hours, until they were able to get her out.

As far as an elevator falling (which has been my only real fear on the subject), elevators are equipped with free-fall breaks (mechanical device that activates breaks when it's falling past a certain speed), and they're also hooked by cable to a counter-weight preventing the elevator from falling. As far as the doors...don't take any chances.

I just dislike elevators coz when I get off I feel like I'm still going upward. Very uneasy feeling, same with escalators, feeling like I'm moving/sliding forward.

I completely misread the title, thought it said "Texas Woman TALKS Into Plane Propeller"
lol I thought she was trying to talk in to it like a fan, to make that weird noise, and got all fucked up.

Just push the emergency stop button. ANyway when i get in elevators i normally have that feeling as i walk out the door the elevator will drop on my head and the front half of my body will be on the floor, the back half will be in the elevator. Like i have been sliced in half from my head to my toes.

I have this sick desire to know EXACTLY what happened and what it looked like. Did her spine get crushed vertically? Was one leg on and one leg off the elevator? I want all the gory details, as scary as it is, because I hate not knowing.

Well, I hear the two other people in the elevator are being treated for psychological trauma. Perhaps it is best to not know. Would scar you for life if you saw it. D:

This is why, when I approach an elevator door, I make a quick leap across the threshold, and try to land lightly so I don't jar the elevator too much, and stand stiffly in the back corner until I reach my floor, and then tiptoe carefully across to the door and leap out.

Obvious. Although most people who fall down stairs and die would be old, frail people.

Yeah, I was just going to say that the difference here is that elevators kill people because they are faulty, something you can't control if your are getting in one. Where tripping up on a staircase is your own fault and can be avoided by simply taking care.

Giant steel boxes that have sliding metal doors, hanging over nothing in a hundred-story empty shaft? I'm not a huge fan. Especially when it has the "weight limit counter" and over a dozen people push it near the limit.
