      Dream Journal Binging

Am I the only one who just...well, this might sound weird but...

Well, am I the only one who enjoys reading/binging other users' Dream Journals? Idk why, but it kind of inspires me to do better in my own way. Recall, lucidity, all that other jazz.

It's kind of like reading someone else's biography in a sense. It's interesting in its own surreal, whimsical way, plus it just makes for great reading material in general. Props to all those that do consistently post their dreams online. Sometimes mine are too personal or just plain sad/scary/boring to where I don't feel like writing them down, nor formatting them onto Dreamviews.

I really hope I'm not alone in this. Maybe I'm weird idk...

Yeah I also find reading other people's dreams interesting, especially if it is people I know It is like a peek into their minds, very cool.

I used to binge read journals but I agree, it is like reading a biography where you learn more about the person, lessons or how to make your own dreams more exciting. : ) I would do it again but i find myself reading recent dream entries lately.

I think a lot of folks go through that phase at some point. I used to binge journals of folks I found interesting for one reason or another.

Not sure how you all feel about your older entries, but these day, I kinda hope no one binges my journal. Just a lot of junk food on there tbh.

Yeah... I kind of hope nobody binges my journal either. Though its probably an informative one for those wanting to read up on dream guide experiences and my use of spells theres a lot of junk in there which I feel embarrassed having on a public forum. Dreamviews has a hard-delete function now, and I cleaned out a ton of entries and saved them on my hard drive, but I have my work cut out for me.

The mods don't like people coring their dream journals because they can be a useful tool for newbies to read through to see how its done and I see where they're coming from. But theres no way that every single one of my 650-odd dream journal entries contain vital information to the development of my lucid dreaming career. Seeing as I've been getting back into it as of late I think I might delete every entry that doesn't have anything interesting or unique. It would give me an opportunity to read through a whole bunch of my old dreams and get my head back in the correct mood, as well as something of a soft restart on my lucid dreaming career.

As for reading other's dream journals; I've done it before in an effort to find inspiration. But frankly I find a lot of junk in other dream journals too. You can sort of tell when someone is tired of describing their anxiety dream about work for the tenth time. (Hence why I stopped writing up most of what I get on the website, and theres a pretty fine filter on what actually makes it to my online dream journal.) Yeah there's a really interesting dream here or there.

I honestly wish a masterful lucid dreamer would publish their dream journal. That would be great reading material. Of course I could be the one to publish such a dream journal and I have considered it. Since my dreams have very consistent characters and come close to forming arcs and story lines it would actually be a good read if properly edited and documented.

Its too late Jade. I already binged your journal like a year or two ago.

About the mater lucid dreamer publishing their dreams, that would be interesting. I would hope that they stay genuine though. I don't think it would be so bad if every dream wasn't connected either. Kind of like the poem books that have short poems about different things.

I'm by no means saying dream journal would have to be a congruent story to be worthy of being published; but it might be something that readers; who may not be accomplished lucid dreamers themselves might be able to grab onto better. After all its not like every one of my dreams is part of some grand narrative with tighter plot cohesion than the harry potter books, but there are plot threads and ideas that carry over from dream to dream. More than likely a published dream journal would be like a collection of short stories, but having something that ties some or all of them together would be nice.

Lol, yeah. Reading dream journals is good fun. However, when it comes to writing them, I like to edit mine (when I do actually record my dreams here) to make it more enjoyable to read (though I occasionally feel that I make it a bit daunting for some of my longer dreams to be read), and record the actual dream in all of the choppiness of just-woken-up me in my actual dream journal (when I remember anyway, )

I sometimes feel creepy though, reading other people's dream journals, probably because dreams are such personalized things. All that considered though, it does provide interesting insight into what makes a person 'tick'

That certainly is a nice red button you have there.

It'd be a shame if someone were to...

      Press it.

I like to have a certain amount of 'flair' when it comes to writing down dreams here on DV. I mean, there's no telling how many people are interested in reading your Journal, so I always try to make the extra effort in making it more fun to read.

I definitely see what you mean in regards to your second point. I think you can tell someone's been through something when their dream is all kinds of "WTF". Some people are a little bit more open in terms of the "stuff" (sexual or not) they do in a non or true LD, and those are always fun to read.

Yes that is true, I tend to go for a certain flair when I describe my dreams. While I seldom get sexual elements, I tend to avoid them, but really what I'm interested in is staying away from things like personal matters. (Especially in the past month or so) I've been having a lot of dreams surrounding issues with my personal life, family and close friends; As well as realistic depictions of events like terrorist attacks or natural disasters, and I honestly don't like describing that sort of thing on a public forum. While the mods would probably let it fly if I was mature about it, I wouldn't get to describe the dream in full cause I'd have to beat around the bush at points to avoid the personal issues or graphic imagery.

This is why I recommend (everyone on this site honestly) keep a private dream journal. I just have a folder full of MS word files, one for each day. I date them YYYY.MM.DD so my computer keeps them in order. I think there's proper dream journaling software out there but thus far the system has worked for me. If I have a dream I do think is worthy of ascending to the public fourm its just a matter of Ctrl-c Ctrl-v.
