Angry Was this was a lucid dream? Or just dreaming about lucidity?

I am really unsure about this dream. Could anyone tell me weather it was lucid or not? I know to be lucid, you know you are dreaming. But I have this strange feeling that although I was acting lucid, I didn't actually comprehend that I was dreaming, and was rather just going through the motions. Here's the dream:

In my dream, I am counting my fingers as a RC. I have 5 fingers so figure it must be real life, however I don't trust it, and keep counting, over and over. Eventually, I stare at my hands and concentrate and an extra finger appears. Thinking 'I must be lucid' I then plug my nose and can breathe. However unlike LDs I have had before, I don't think I fully comprehend that I am dreaming. I'm not excited, and aware. I am in my old bedroom in my mums house, but I think that this is normal, and it is my current bedroom. I climb out of bed and my mum's dog runs into the room, happy to see me. He jumps and licks me, very excited! I fuss him a little bit, give him some cuddles then take him out the room because I am worried he will wake my partner who is sleeping. Outside, I get on my knees and rub the carpet, trying to stabilize myself. The carpet is mint green. The dream has no danger of fading, there is no reason to stabilize, but that's because it doesn't feel real, it feels like a dream. I now stand and think for a moment, I am unsure what I want to do now I am lucid. I decide to fly, as everyone raves about how good it is. I leap out of the window bravely, which is my old hallway window in my childhood house (long since been bricked up) and again I don't think this is weird, but normal. I plummet towards the concrete floor below, but shut my eyes and say 'I can fly' and I sweep back into the sky just in time. I fly a bit, singing to myself, then dive down a chimney to see what I will find. I enter a 'Xmas' type themed area, with Xmas trees, presents, etc etc. I tell myself that was obvious, of couse I will associate Xmas with chimneys 'cos that's where santa goes. I started singing again and find my voice is perfect, although the song is cheesy and lame. I wake up, because my partner is moving in the bed next to me. Once I am awake, my partner offers me some cheese. I tell him about my LD and he tells me it's because I ate cheese before bed. I eat some more (it's got breadcrumbs on it) and my best friend is also in bed with us. We laugh for a while about my LD, and then I wake up for real because my friend's cat jumps on my head. Was this an FA?

I actually doubt weather I really knew I was dreaming, or if I was dreaming about myself being lucid, and didn't really know I was not there. If that makes sense. It felt like a regular dream. I woke up thinking, you idiot, you should have realized it was a dream as you were dreaming about lucidity!

      Anyone else had similar experiences?

      Ooh, their breath is warm
      And they smell like sleep
And they say they take me home
      Like poppies heavy with seed
They take me deeper and deeper

This seems to happen to many here. We think about lucidity so much it sometimes becomes hard to tell if we are lucid, and many dreams actually center around the idea of lucid dreaming so the distinctiohn becomes really unclear.

The acts of stabilizing and thoughts of flying suggest lucidity, though only you can really know how it felt. Was it lucid in your opinion?

The FA is not atypical either. You have had a nifty experience. Lucid + non-lucid + FA

It sounds like you think about LDs often and have done a lot of reading. The influence is clear. Keep it up!

Thanks, I am actually really into this LDing stuff and have been really focusing on the methods, so my dreams are full of signs!

I'm going to make a decision and say that this wasn't a lucid dream. Although it really does sound like it reading it back to myself. The act of flying, and stabilizing were just me going through the motions, there was no thought or effect, and I don't even think I was acting with full consciousness. The first lucid dream I had I was actually aware of my dream, I could look, and think and feel. This felt just like a regular dream.

      I appreciate your help!

Dreams of being lucid are only lucid if you honestly had some waking awareness that it was actually going on. It is something only you know. That is, did you actually have a moment of 'understanding?' If you understand it is a dream,it is lucid.

Yeah, you put into words what I was trying to!

I didn't, so it wasn't a lucid dream. Strange how my mind went through the motions though, including flying and stabilizing! Weird.

      Unclear? In what way?

I did gin to think I may have remembered it as a regular dream when I was lucid, but I don't think so. I remembered lots of detail but no memorable emotion or shock that I was dreaming. The first LD I had was an intense, realistic feeling that has stuck with me.

      I'll keep trying tho!
