      Given the description that you gave and the fact that you did RCs and told yourself that you were lucid dreaming, it was most likely a lucid dream. Usually when you become lucid there is a 'eureka'...

      I would suggest if you are able to do so discreetly, use the nose pinch RC. It's quick and you don't really have to be in any state of mind(just be thinking that if you can breathe with your nose...

      In all of the lucid dreams that I have had, I have never doubted that I was in a dream after the thought that I may be in one crossed my mind. It is almost as if I 'remembered' that I was dreaming...
