Thread: Stupid people and their retarded English. Die die die!!!

My friend Desiree posted a note on facebook about giving up getting a career in television because she keeps getting rejected from places. Well here's a brilliant little comment a friend of hers posted:

"Desi, noooooooo we both have worked 2 hard 4 this and we WILL b on tv im havin a hard time 2, i think im gonna go back 2 school not @ niu but the illinois center 4 broadcastin it sounds really cool let me kno if u want info but i will not let u give up! if im not then u cant cmon co-anchor we will get through this successfully"

And this coming from a college graduate, not just some 14 year old who plays video games all day. Kill me, Jebus.

I dunno man but... I'm mostly concerned about the age and education of the person and how it can't possibly correspond with that kind of writing. Ugghhh I just DON'T understand.

I can't stand this sort of total disregard for the English language. Proper punctuation and sentence structure are a must, and substituting numbers for letters is preposterously moronic. As Wolfsbane said, it takes far longer to interpret the meaning of that crap than the time saved by using it in the first place. Probably the thing that irritates me the most, though, is continual rambling with no full stops to indicate the ends of sentences. Not using commas where needed never fails to invoke my ire, as well.

Sometimes people just don't have anyone tell them..as in anyone complain, so to say. So it's acceptable for them. Maybe someone just needs to tell 'em.

I've had people on StarCraft (battle.net) ask me that. I mean, I know I was playing a game that has a lot of retards on it, but still... Some guy called me stupid and said that it's quicker to just abbreviate (and I did use in-game abbreviations), but spelling out "you" didn't take away any crucial seconds I could have been using. Yeah, I'm the stupid one.


I had a friend who always said "wht." Not even "wut." Of all the letters to take out, why the vowel?
Will one more letter, one extra keystroke cause instant death?
I hate sitting next to people when they type. Makes me want to take the keyboard and type for them.


I really wonder how these people survive school. How do they talk? They never use punctuation, so do they ever take a breath while speaking?

I guess I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. On one hand, I can understand that some people just aren't good typists, and it's easiest to cut corners. Also, colloquialism is something that shouldn't be disregarded. I don't believe it takes longer to decipher shit like that than it does for the other person to type it correctly, especially if that person isn't that deft at typing.

Usually, I just don't really give a shit. It's aggravating at times, sure, but whenever I see people that just go absolutely ballistic because of the way someone types, I just have to chuckle a bit. Sure, proper grammar is "important," but with all the reasons (sufficient or not) there are for people to cut corners, I just think it's still a bit too trivial to be getting bent out of shape over.

That's just me, though.

I recently had a conversation with a girl that was probably one of the most horrifying experiences ever. None of this is made up.

Her: hey yew. whats up?

Me: Hmmm, nothing really. How's it going for you?

Her: pretty swell. it seems like i havent talked to yew in awhilez.

Me: Yeah, it's been quite a while. We have lunch together too, so it's really rather pathetic. Anyway, anything interesting happen to you lately? I'm decently tired, so I'm off to bed.

(And here's where the fun begins...)

Her: that iz kinda pathetic. :/ lawlz. nothing too interesting has been going on. school iz kinda crazy plus practice plus student council plus float meetings makes life kinda hectic lawlz. yeahh this weekend was pretty great. friday me dillon lindzey and tyler went and saw nick&norahs infinite playlist. which was an AMAZINGG movie. then we went and played at tobyzz. saturday i went and had lunch wiff my cousin then went to sheetz and played at tobyz. stayed teh night wiff lindz. woke up for church this morning. then played wiff toby all day. lawlz. eekz. i am so not ready for tomorrow. we havent had practice since our meet last wednesday. it iz going to be like starting over. i am totally going to die. YIKES!

Whoa, whoa whoa, I happened to have been one of those kids who played video games all day, scarcely going out, and I never talked like THAT. I was taught from some guy off myspace (I know) that you should always use proper grammar and spelling or else your opinion will be considered completely worthless. It's more of the general teenage population that talks like that.

I've been using proper punctuation and grammar since I was 12.

I once asked a girl why she types so crappily. She says it's to "save time." For all the time she saves (all those precious five seconds), I spend three times as long trying to figure out what the hell that vomit of letters is supposed to say.

I can understand when people just aren't good at spelling or grammar. Capitalization isn't a big deal either, but I don't think punctuation and actually spelling things out is too much to ask for. For the sanity of us all...

Other than that, I'd rather drink Dran-o before reading that again.

I try to write with proper spelling and grammer, but often incorporate slang into it the way I would talk in real life. Things like:
-I'mma go now
-You gonna do it?
-Aight

I say I'ma and gonna..but not 1337.

Infact, 1337 gets downgraded: 1336.

I never replace letters with numbers and symbols. Unless I'm using it to illustrate a point.

Or maybe Desiree's friend uses her mobile phone to communicate through text messaging and got used to typing that way in front of the computer.

Anyway don't bother her. You are only complaining about people communicating that way through the social networking site (Facebook). She wouldn't do that when it comes to finishing the thesis project with her colleagues. Who knows, someone might be bad at typing, but once you hear him/her talking fluently in English.. what would you say then?

So this was written by a senior communications major at my school. There was a link to this on the front page called Whats sleep, I was hoping they were doing more studies on sleep or something, but sadly no.

"some may say that finals week is the most stressful week of the year but for me its always the week before. i dont know y but im always more calm finals week. i only have 2 finals this semester, one on tuesday and one on friday. so far this week i’ve had to write 3 papers, 1 15-25 page script, and a take home final all due thursday, sweet week huh? oh well i have most of it done already do im good.

so i told everyone that the mens and womens basketball teams will win the first games in the new savage. i love when im rite and if u missed the mens game, u missed a good one. packed arena, last second tip in to win the game, students rush the cort, it was a great way to break in the new savage and to keep the excitement alive. i’ve been goin to basketball games here for 4 years and that might have been the most exciting game i’ve been to. then the womens team gets in there and beat north dakota by 8. good job both teams and hopefully we they can keep the excitement going this weekend.

in sadder news, for everyone that knows me knows im a BIG red sox fan. when i woke up this morning i got the sad new that CC Sabathia is gonna sign with the yankees. i use to like CC till this morning, now he’s just another over paied yankee. we all see how thats worked with A-Rod, Giambi, and the others on the team. atleast when we pay our players we win"
