      Waking up naturally while sleeping.

Every night, after a REM cycle, I wake up. This is usually between 1-3AM, and it happens on regular intervals after that. No matter what I do, I constantly wake up after my REM cycles. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, quite the contrary. I'm simply wondering why this is. Any thoughts/ideas?

Do you happen to drink anything with caffeine before bed, such as soda or eat lots of sugary things at night?

I've read somewhere that after each REM period we either wake up a little bit or our body moves to check that everything is fine. So we may just be conscious enough to catch this each time. It's the same thing for me two, I don't know how it happens to certain people or whatever, but it's great. Makes it really easy to recall dreams =D

I too, wake up after every sleep cycle in the night I didn't intentionally make it happen, I just wanted better recall and slowly built up the ability to do it. I go to bed around 10-11, wake up around 1-2am and then successive onwards.
Last night I went to sleep at 11, and woke up at 2:10, 3:37, 4:50, 6:19 and then meditated until I needed to get ready for school.
For the record, I don't drink anything with caffeine in it, and have cut out most sugary foods from my diet - especially before I go to bed

No, Not at all. I just wake up after a long dream. Unfortunately, I was thinking about it so much, that after I had a lucid dream, I had a false awakening, and forgot all the details of the dream :/
