      What's Your WILD Style?

I thought a thread like this might help out those that are having a harder time trying to WILD.

For me, I have lie on my stomach and turn my head to the right - I cannot achieve a WILD any other way.

I do everything wrong. I WILD in bright daylight with no eye mask. I lie on whichever side takes my fancy, or on my back. I swallow or scratch if necessary, and I pay lots of attention to the "noise". Works for me.

I use 2 very different ones. The first is pretty close to what Sageous' class goes over. Scratch if you itch and be sure to fall asleep.
The other type is what I learned as "Dream Trance" Basically it is kind of meditation in which you keep your awareness focused on an anchor, but refuse to loose consciousness while attempting to use deep relaxation techniques. That style then uses visualization and other tricks AFTER the body has gone into a true sleep phase and most likely will involve interaction with H.I or H.H.

The first method is easier to learn and takes far less time and discipline, but after one get's that down, more time can go into learning the second style.

I had to learn on my own, so in experimenting with clearing my mind I eventually came across vibrations. When I WILD I don't use WBTB so if it is not a DEILD than I have to concentrate for some time. During the day I often do concentration meditation using an external/internal object similar to a "color kasina". I simply used this idea and extended it to focusing on the concept of "nothingness" during WILD, but in such a way as to allow my body to fall asleep instead. I suppose it is the intention that accomplishes this, but sometimes I still fail because my focus actually can keep me too alert, which is usually desirable in concentration. When the critical point is reached I can usually sense it. From there I usually try to see myself sleeping from a third person view and "will" myself out of my body. A quick rushing sound and a snap later and I am either in a dream or floating, depending on my level of awareness and/or my intentions.

If I wake up in the night and decide to just roll over and WILD, the process is much easier. I simply envision my conscious mind in a protective bubble, as strange as it sounds, and I fall asleep with the firm intention of retaining that bit of awareness. It usually only takes a few seconds in this case and is similar to a DEILD. I only still do the more difficult method for purposes of practice.

Usual sleeping pose, do deep relaxation with mantra plus visualization of desired scene [generally Sageous style], and either 1) fall asleep unconsciously, or 2) insomnia. I don't do long WBTB other than quick drink/bathroom break. WILD is not my friend yet.
