Thread: redisreddish's poetry-type things

Yeah, I like reading/writing poetry and I thought it'd be interesting to see what people have to say about what I write. I don't think I'm very good, lol, but I write it anyways because I like the way poetry sounds and I want to get better. Please, if you have some criticism then offer it! Any comments are welcome, too. Um.... enjoy.

(I can't underline or bold or anything at the moment, but I will when I can)

~~Wake Up~~

Everyone just like everyone else
A zombie flock of sheep
They don't know the meaning of unique
Their "beauty" isn't even skin deep
All one picture, painted the same
Can't tell them apart
boring
boring
boring
Boring!
I say, let the individuality start!

Sing!
Scream!
Dare to dream!

Don't blend in--stand out!
We don't need more zombies about!

Weeping souls
Barren lands
Forgotten sorrows
Running sands

I suppose you can tell what the first is about, and then the second one isn't very good, but I just liked how it sounded. The words popped up when I was listening to wolves howl.

Lol, I know there's a board game called Life, but that isn't what I'm talking about in this one.

~~Game of Life~~

Life is a game
We all play
Whether we want to or not

But the rules are confused
Do we play to stay
Or make the best of what we've got?

Either way, some excell
Some lag behind
Fall farther back every day

They struggle to move
But the game is cruel
Lost thoughts lead them astray

So easy to quit
Admit defeat
Stop trying and just give in

But victory's sweet
Worth the fight
Satisfying to say "I win"

That's a question, though
Can we really win?
Will the scars of our struggle ever mend?

There's really no answer
It's the game of life
The game without an end.

Numbers counting up and down
One to twelve and back again
Shadow spinning on a dial
Hourglass with running sand
Grandfather clock with iron hand
Watch on the cutting edge of style
Linear system devised by men
King of our life who wears no crown

Pinkpricks of light shining up high
Blue turns to black as the day slides by
Skeletal branches of bare trees reach out
Owls "whoo," coyotes shout
All the diurnal fade out of sight
Snow glitters softly in silver moonlight
Take in the the beauty of a world called night

Thank you! <3 I think that's one of my better things, because I actually had some inspiration behind it. Most everything else was just written because I wanted to write something.

Okay, so it was quite a while ago that I said some friends and I had started a band. But we didn't, mainly because we only had a saxophone and a clarinet. But I did write a few songs. This is the only one that I really like, though. As the name would suggest, every line in this song is a personal joke.

The Personal Joke Song

We can save the elephant, and a million other things
Ask if they clean cats every time the telephone rings
Be a poison pointer and brush our curly locks
Comfort poor old Skip, who beheld the funny box

We could spur our moment, or eat razzleberry pie
The arachnids in our craniums really need to die
If we make one bubble, we can make a million more
And hope our prejudice in a bag won’t spill out on the floor

~(Chorus) We’ll fight back all those zombie sheep
We’ll give you a green spleen
We’ll catch some rabid tadpoles
If you know what we mean

We’ll psychiatrate your penguin fish
We’ll give that Oard a poke
But you probably don’t get any of this
It’s really a personal joke~

We can hope those afghans won’t steal our favorite sock
We could make our watermelon theory solid as a rock
If it starts getting pink out we just might go paperclips
Spit pop all over the dog’s food and see how bad he flips

We could pick up that girl’s face—after all, we saw it drop
But if we’re dancing to a wolf, it might be hard to stop
We want to keep the stickers; we got rid of the goatees
And we’ll use our springy reflexes that show up in our knees

And then there was all the 'repeat chorus' stuff and whatnot after that.

Writing this spur of the moment simply because I feel like rhyming.

Goodnight, dear
Don't you fear
In your dreams I'll soon be near
Not a peep,
Now go to sleep
I won't let the nightmares creep
Close your eyes
The sun will rise
There aren't any real goodbyes
