My old faithful technique for DILDS

This isnt anything new, but basically just my old method of reality checking. Using this method would always make me have a lucid dream within a week guaranteed.

I would write 'AWAKE' on the back of my hand and go about my normal day. Every now and then I would check my hand, and if it still said 'awake' I knew I was not dreaming. Eventually I checked my hand and a weird poem would be written there, or something different, and suddenly I would be in a lucid dream.

I think it worked for me because its kinda weird to have something written on your hand. It kept catching my eye throughout the day, and I was almost always concious of it. It was bound to find its way into my dream eventually.

Nowadays I have a job to hold down, I am dealing with customers all day and I can't go round with pen on my hand... it looks odd (maybe thats another reason why it worked, there is a self-conciousness aspect to having something weird written on your hand. I am sure something like that has a deeper effect on the subconcious).

So, I was wondering if anyone could think of a similar technique that I could use which wouldnt involve writing on myself. I have considered laminating a small card that says 'Awake' on it, and carrying it in my pocket at all times. This might work, but I think I need something that will be just jabbing my thoughts slightly all day, but without looking weird! Any ideas?

Also, if anyone out there hasnt tried it and doesnt mind it... try writing it on your hand for a week and see if it works for you. I had very positive results from it. I know its a silly idea but whatever works, right?

Id say you should write it in sharpie marker with giant bold letters. If a customer or boss asks you a question, stare them dead in the eyes for 10 seconds. No more no less. Then instantly turn and run as fast as you can through the nearest wall. They wont ever ask again..... Of course, if your not dreaming this may look odd but, eh fuck em.

Yeah I could I guess, but then I would have to write it so small nobody would see it, and in that case maybe I would forget about it too....

What a fantastic idea. I tried wearing a watch, which i normally dont do, and would check it to see the time and would ask myself if i was dreaming. the problem was i'd instinctively look at my cellphone for the time instead, and this never seemed to pick up in my dreams.

So I just whipped out my sharpie and wrote a very annoying bold "awake." on the back of my hand. lets see how obtrusive it'll be throughout the day. thanks for the tip.

ps- your sig totally made me do a reality check, i hate you.

A while back I statred wearing a small object on a string around my neck, hidden under my shirt. This worked for a while, as I would feel it throughout the day and it would remind me to be aware and question my state of reality. The problem is that after wearing it for a long time, I got used to it and stopped noticing it. Probably if I wore it on the outside of my shirt, I would notice it more.
Maybe something like that would work for you? That is, if you don't mind wearing a necklace thing at work.
      It's all in your head.

Yeah I like this idea. It would have to be a weird shape, maybe with angles and corners so it is slightly uncomfortable and noticable. Perhaps once getting used to it, its could be carried around in a trouser pocket instead, so you start noticing it in a different place.

Can't you use a small symbol or even a dot which you understand to mean "awake"? Or perhaps writing something normal like that date on your hand, so that other people don't think you're crazy and you know what it really means.

This isnt the most reliable way to be lucid in the world. Because even if it's not on your hand in the dream you could still think nothing of it. Same as seeing your dog flying.

And your mind could make it appear in your dream, then it really wouldn't work.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

Yeah, you're probably right. I heard that the right brain is quite unaware in non-lucid dreams, so that your logic is gone and away. But if you really try to notice the writing, maybe visualize how you could discover it in a dream, maybe it could have worked then?
Anyone tried it yet, except for LostOnTrains? Did it work for you to?

I know what you mean, but what would happen usually is I use the writing on my hand to remind me to RC, and as a RC in itself. The fact that I would catch a glimpse of it, or am just generally aware of it on my hand would make me more likely to do a reality check during the day. I would do the usual RC's, looking around me and asking if everything seemed normal but then I would look at my hand to check that it still said 'awake' too. I think it helped me get into a habit of doing lots of small reality checks throughout the day because glancing at my hand was a quick way of checking.

I can see what you mean, if I did not first consider the possibility that I was dreaming and then saw my hand in a dream, it might say something different but I wouldn't get lucid just from seeing it.
It really depends on using the hand as a tool to help you reality check.

For me, it worked every time and worked much better than other techniques that I tried. Not sure if it would work the same for everyone, but I am interested to see if others have similar results.

i'm pretty sure it's the left side brain (controls right body) that has the logic parts and shuts down in dreams

just write "awake" on the inside of your glasses! or more seriously on your watch/bracelet

wear a ring on your hand with the word awake on it and every time you notice the ring do a reality check...........or write it on a piece of paper and stick it in a wallet or something................

Yes this is what I was thinking.
Make it a strange ring in appearance that doesn't feel quite right on your finger. Never sleep with it on. When you start to get a little used to it put it on a necklace until you get used to that, then back on your finger on maybe another finger. Call it the lucid ring or something and you might want it made out of something that is unusual that makes you think about it or like it.
The RC can be the tiny writing on the ring, "if you can read this you are awake."
      something like this

Google "awesome ring" to see a lot of great rings.

This is starting to sound good enough to use myself.

the background on my phone is a pic i took of the text "YOU ARE AWAKE"
it works well since its digital. and i've attained lucidity in a dream since then when i looked at my phone and not because of the background but because it was acting very strangely. perhaps this or something similar could work for you.

I always have "LD RC" on my hand, just to remind me to do RC, obvious, I know
I think all the ideas about ring or bracelet can work for you or you can also take watch and place little paper with word on it under the glass - will only be noticeable for you.
I don't know why, but I can't rely on writing as RC - I read a lot in my dreams and it's always stable. Only one time I became lucid just because that I was reading reminded me of the fact that it's possible for text to change in the dream...so I looked away and back about five times, everything on the page stayed the same. But I still did nose plug, fortunately But in other dreams involving reading I never do RC...maybe I'll manage to do that in the future.
