      Question Can't sleep while visualizing

Hey DV, i am having problems while trying to sleep with MILD.
I try to mentalize the mantra "I know i am dreaming" Everything Ok here.
Then i try to visualize the dream where i almost become lucid, and i can't
sleep when i visualize that, so i just have to stop visualizing so i can sleep.
      Why is this happening?

(Sorry if this the wrong section)

It's because you are actively using your brain/concentrating on something. The key is to start visualizing yourself and then let the mind take over. The tricky part is staying just aware enough that you don't drift off to sleep. Instead, you have to be like a silent observer--not judging what you're seeing or even thinking about it, just seeing. Eventually (at least in my case) if I am successful, I will be barely conscious watching what looks like a movie of a dream right behind my eyelids, and then after a certain point I just know that I can step in, and then I have successfully transitioned into a dream. From there I just have to stabilize (that's the part that gets me most often, most stabilization techniques don't work well for me).

You are paying too much attention to your visualization. What you want is the same sensation as when you fall into a day-dream. What you are trying to do is fall asleep with lucid dreaming on your mind, if visualization is stopping you from falling asleep then you are probably trying to hard.
Try to let your mind wander but still about lucid dreaming. It doesn't matter if you start thinking about something else as long as you subtly revert back to thoughts on lucid dreaming.
Usually after a long session of actively trying to visualize (15 mins) your brain will start to effortlessly carry on the visualization without any need to stay focused.
Try to be more relaxed tonight and just fall asleep lightly thinking of lucid dreaming.

@Snoop: Iriba said MILD, not WILD. I don't think he was intending on entering the visualization.

      Hello,

I often have this problem but its just being too excited about lucid dreaming and it prevents me from sleeping. Then I get this thought about "not thinking about lding"

In the hopes to fall asleep but it doesn't help, I guess I'll try being passive.

I'm unable to have that day-dream feeling while asleep
I just like to sleep with my mind "empty"
So maybe that's why, but i don't know what i should do
It's like i am forcing my mind to do something and it doesn't let me sleep.

I have to say that this is a very helpful post. I never thought about letting my mind wandering about lucid dreaming, although it probably does

I have to try that relaxed day-dreaming like visualization..does it work like incubation ? Daydreaming might not be so bad after all
Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way
