Simple way to remember to RC (useful for students!)

Recently I have had to do a lot of studying for mock exams, so I found LD'ing pushed to the back of my mind. In order to fix this I put a small black pen dot on the back of my thumb on my writing hand, when studying it is always in my view, since I'm writing notes etc. I find it way easier to remember to RC this way.
I also notice it in classes, or when doing other menial tasks like getting a glass from the kitchen or reading a book.

      Hope this helps!

That seems like a good idea. The hope would be that you will do it often enough that RC becomes part of your daily life. You want to grow into a state in which it is natural to RC often with out needing such reminders. But you must start somewhere, and I like the idea alot. I think I may try it out myself to ramp up my RC frequancy. Thanks for the idea.

Yes definitely don't only RC when you see the dot, because you probably aren't going to have a dot on your thumb in dreams

Not 100% sure about this, but I think Toxic means that the dot serves as a reminder to RC, not a dream signal. It's to trick your body into automatically RCing when you are in a dream (because you RC so often anyways while awake). So it wouldn't matter if you saw the dot in a dream.

But of course, RCing whenever you remember to is a good idea.

Yeah I think you're exactly right, I'm saying that this needs to translate from the waking world, somehow into the dream world. If it does so by reminding him to RC more in general, that's great, but I don't think it automatically will. It's one thing to see a certain stimulus and have that remind you to RC, it's another to have a timer in the back of your head that pokes you every hour no matter what you see (I never did manage to get the timer working in dreams). So while the dot-on-thumb thing may help the OP to start with, I think he will have better luck if he makes a conscious effort to broaden the net.

Here are some things OP might consider adding to his "I'll RC when..." list (I feel it's best to add one such thing at a time):
      Opening doors
      Drinking something
      Seeing the sun
(Other stuff that happens often both in dreams and waking life)

Which is why PM exercises are useful. On the other hand, when I first started out, I had a random alarm set on my phone to go off at least ten-fifteen times within an hour. I kept the phone on vibrate in my back pocket. When I felt a buzz, I would RC.

I no longer use the phone, but I still RC often. I think eventually, when you hammer a rote habit hard enough, it will become natural.

I agree with all the above, simply put, I use it mainly when studying. I find I get really absorbed and completely forget about RC's. The dot just keeps Lucid Dreaming in the forefront of my mind throughout the day, to the point where I don't need the dot anymore. Similar to ADA when I start to think about reality checks or my awareness less, I use the dot, otherwise I don't.
