      FAQ from Multiple LDers

Hey! This thread is kind of a FAQ for LDers. I am going to write down a bunch of frequently asked questions and answer them in a format the anyone can read and answer for themselves. Kind of like an open survey, but in a way that people can see and get their own ideas from as well as ask more questions. Please don't ask questions in this thread, PM people and ask them there. If you are answering the questions, feel free to add any questions to answer that you get frequently.

      • Age: 25
      • Age when you started LDing: 21
      • How long have you been LDing: 4 years and some change (June 12, 2012)
      • How many LDs have you had: 1300-1400
      • How often do you LD: about every night, probably 4-7 nights a week
      • Average LD length: 10 minutes
      • Longest LD: impossible to tell really since I believe in time dilation
      • Longest it felt: a week
      • dreams per night: 2+ if I have less than 2, it is a night I sleep very little
      • Longest dream: impossible to tell since I believe in time dilation
      • Longest a dream felt: 150 years, but that was definitely fake memories. 2 years of straight up time.
      • Spiritual beliefs in regards to LD (physical, metaphysical, spiritual): I believe that a dream is a normal physical function of the body and that LDing is lumped in with that. It is cool and it seems to have all sorts of amazing things with it,
      • DILD or WILD: Both, start with both and be consistent
      • how often do you attempt to WILD: Every time I go to sleep
      • How do you WILD: a balance between aware and unaware, an anchor is needed to keep your awareness at the right level.
      • How often do you WILD: about twice a week
      • How much time per day do you spend on LDing: about 15 minutes
      • How much time do you spend on LDing at night: about 30 minutes if you count the WBTBs and things
      • How much do you sleep per night: 6 hours, I LD much better if I sleep 7-8 though.
      • How do you meditate: usually visualization, but I think of meditation as directed thinking.
      • Do you use ADA: No
      • Thoughts on ADA: A good idea, but I think that trying to pay attention to all things at all times is kind of dumb, because that is impossible.
      • Thoughts on ADA-RC: I like the idea, since it is "pay attention to one thing at all times" instead of "all things all the time" you can please all the people some of the time or some of the people all the time, but you can't please all the people all the time, the same thing applies to awareness. I don't use it though since I am already good at LDing and am too busy and really bad at paying attention to do something like this.
      • How do you stabilize: I breathe in slowly through my nose and rub my hands together
      • How often do you need to stabilize: I try it at the end of my dreams, but if it doesn't work, then DEILDing also doesn't work. After learning how to DEILD after every LD that ends shortly, I don't think that it is "extending" a dream, but "saving a dream" like a last chance stabilization tech. After getting really good at it, I stopped worrying about how long dreams were going to last and suddenly, they lasted longer without me worrying about it,
      • How many breaks have you taken from LDing and how long were they: none longer than a day or two
      • Time dilation: I believe it is possible and that our perception of time is like our perception of everything else, and is dependent on your past experiences and present mindset. I don't think that it is a "processing power" of your mind.
      • WBTB: always, many, mini, forever
      • Coolest thing you have done in a lucid dream: All sorts of things. Zödra is probably my favorite, it is my persistent realm that I continue to go to and expand and meet and fight DCs. Here is more about it.

I am hoping that this will give some people some ideas on LDing and things... Not sure why I am doing this, but it is the thread I felt like posting. This thread is always relevant and I don't think it should ever be considered "necro posted" in the future since it is still going to be good info.

PLEASE only post your answers to questions here and questions like this here, I want it to be easy for people to read and see the answers to questions they want by different people.

Never really got asked how I succeeded, but here is my list Also this was a good thread idea Sensei!
      • Age: 19
      • Age when you started LDing: 16
      • How long have you been LDing: Soon 4 years
      • How many LDs have you had: 472 ( Counting between wakings. LD -> wake up -> another LD = 2 Lucid dreams. )
      • How often do you LD: 2-3 times a week currently
      • Average LD length: Currently ( after restarting ) 1-2 minutes. (One of my main goals is prolonging of the lucid atm.) Avg. length used to be 5-10 minutes.
      • Longest LD: 40 Minutes fully lucid
      • Longest it felt: 2 Hours
      • Dreams per night: Recalling 2-5 every night + 1-5 fragments
      • Longest dream: Probably an hour, haven't experienced true time dilation yet
      • Longest a dream felt: Probably the one hour
      • Spiritual beliefs in regards to LD (physical, metaphysical, spiritual): Can't tell, no opinion, all there is the experience and how one chooses to take it. DMT could add something spiritual into it, but can't tell.
      • DILD or WILD: DILD. Haven't gotten a WILD for four months. Trying to induce one again.
      • How do you WILD: How I used to was that I waited. I waited and waited for my body to fall asleep. Sometimes it took 2 hours but I persisted and didn't budge.
      • How often do you attempt to WILD: Once every two or three days currently.
      • How often do you WILD: Once in 4 months currently.
      • How much time per day do you spend on LDing: Prospective Memory Practice, day dreaming- visualizations, dreamjournaling, Dreamviews, meditation before sleep. 3-5 hours daily.
      • How much do you sleep per night: 8 Hours
      • How much time do you spend on LDing at night: WBTB ( sometimes meditation during it ) and now some WILD practice. 30 Minutes.
      • How do you meditate: Used to sit down in meditation position for 40 minutes while listening to music eyes closed. Going to try that again soon, but now I'm just prepping myself mentally by realizing the fact, that I might just have the most incredible experience of my life in just a minute. Also calmly realizing that I'm a lucid dreamer. Sometimes MILD-meditation" The next time I see someone I will do a reality check ".
      • Do you use ADA: A little, but I like the idea of RRC better and I'm picking it up with my WILD attempts.
      • Thoughts on ADA: Could use some more focus on the observer him/herself along with the focus onto the environment.
      • Thoughts on ADA-RC: What is that? Okay I think it has something to do with the location of the observer, could be useful.
      • How do you stabilize: "Clarity!!!" and rubbing my hands together as if the world was about to end haha. Done all kinds of things, spinning, crawling, touching things, asking a DC to remind me I'm dreaming etc.
      • How often do you need to stabilize: Now everytime, not because the dream would end, but because I'm losing lucidity.
      • How many breaks have you taken from LDing and how long were they: Longest 4 months ( restarted after this break). Otherwise I kept 1-2 weeks breaks here and there when I started. But I never quit writing a dream journal.
      • Time Dilation thoughts: Can't tell. Probably possible actually. I just remembered someone in the community referring to it earlier somehow like this: You know in movies there's sometimes those scenes where the day swifts to night in like a minute during a montage or something ( as an example ). Time dilation in dreams could be like that. A lot of time seems to have passed and it is accepted that a lot of things have and might have happened, when in reality only a minute has passed. Like, a compressed bunch of dream events that happen during that one minute making it seem that much more time has passed. How much time can pass in a movie in one hour? Same with the dream.
      • WBTB thoughts: The King.
      • Coolest thing you have done in a lucid dream: Yet to come.

During the Spring lucid competition a few people were suggesting I was a late-onset-natural and suggested writing/posting about my methods. Well, it's far from natural, and I have what might be considered a handicap... which just makes me work all the harder.

My thoughts on lucid dreaming can be summed up as an unwavering belief that anything a child can learn, an adult can too, but at a slower rate. So my major goal, essentially, is to become lucid so frequently it is equivalent to being a 'natural lucid dreamer'.

      Age: 33
Age when you started LDing: 30
How long have you been LDing: 2 years 10 months
How many LDs have you had: 500+ (Counting chained LDs or (L)DEILDs as a single long LD)
How often do you LD: 3-4 nights a week, 6-7 LDs a week on average
      Average LD length: 10 mins
      Longest LD: 30-40 mins?
Longest it felt: 1 hour? I was starting to forget things, and woke myself up intentionally.
      dreams per night: Average 2-3+
      Longest dream: 1 hour?
Longest a dream felt: 1 hour
Spiritual beliefs in regards to LD (physical, metaphysical, spiritual): purely something that occurs within the mind of the dreamer
DILD or WILD: Both, but mostly DILD
How do you WILD: Normally by accident, as I have Aphantasia and cannot visualise when awake. So I start to feel shaking/spinning sensations or can finally 'see' images with my eyes closed, and know a dream is forming.
How often do you attempt to WILD: Not intentionally, I am just trying to fall back asleep.
How often do you WILD: 1-2 times a week.
How much time per day do you spend on LDing: A lot! Normally takes at least 30 mins to write my dreams from the previous night. I will think about dreams and periodically raise awareness throughout the day, but not constantly.
How much do you sleep per night: 7-8 hours
How much time do you spend on LDing at night: As long as it takes to make recall notes during an awakening, or go to the loo.
How do you meditate: Walking/awareness meditations. Riding a motorbike is very 'zen' - you have to be relaxed-focused, reading the road and the other traffic, being aware and reacting to what is happening right now. It's the perfect activity for cultivating awareness.
Do you use ADA: All Day - no. Awareness, yes.
Thoughts on ADA: For me, keeping awareness up all day is not a natural thing. I get distracted by work, absorbed into a TV program or film or game or book. But frequently I will 'become aware' during the day and focus on my awareness and surroundings for a while.
Thoughts on ADA-RC: I guess in a way, that is what my heightened-awareness moments would be considered.
How do you stabilize: Rubbing hands, touching things.
How often do you need to stabilize: Not often.
How many breaks have you taken from LDing and how long were they: Longest break was 2 weeks while on holiday in China. I take a break from journalling when travelling, but never really intentionally stop trying to have lucid dreams, they just don't get written down.
Time Dilation thoughts: Have done a couple of experiments, but wasn't impressed.
WBTB thoughts: Yes. Essential. Frequent. Recall earlier dreams, take notes, focus and return to bed.
Coolest thing you have done in a lucid dream: All sorts of cool stuff. Turning into a dragon, flying into space, piloting an X-wing, doing impossible motorbike stunts.

Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. haha, I haven't been posting much for a while. That was a non lucid dream, I wish I had a lucid that felt that long. If you do have any questions for me, please PM me. The longest LD I have felt was only a week.

Thank you obfusc8 and Saizaphod for responding.

      Age: 27
Age when you started LDing: 5
How long have you been LDing: Around 14 years with success now
How many LDs have you had: Around 18k right now?
How often do you LD: Daily
      Average LD length: 10+ minutes
Longest LD: 2 hour LD forced chained fights
Longest it felt: Longest it felt was like 300 years?
dreams per night: Depends, on a good nights sleep 8.
Longest dream: Around 2 hours yep
Longest a dream felt: Normal dreams? Around 4 or 5 hours, don't have those anymore
Spiritual beliefs in regards to LD (physical, metaphysical, spiritual): None really, dreams are just awesome and I like them.
DILD or WILD: DILD all the way
How do you WILD: Force my way back into a dream, move as much as I like and don't give much of a shit about positions
How often do you attempt to WILD: Whenever I want to return to a dream forcefully and right away
How often do you WILD: Whenever I try get it done
How much time per day do you spend on LDing: I practice my RC all day long, its second nature by now
How much do you sleep per night: Depends on the day really, some 6 hours on average
How much time do you spend on LDing at night: All my dreams are lucid
How do you meditate: Filter attention to one thing and use it to heighten my awareness of the world around me, ie actively check weight
      Do you use ADA: Nope
      Thoughts on ADA: Too tiresome
Thoughts on ADA-RC: Thats what I use, so ofc I find it the best way for myself to get lucid
How do you stabilize: Through my RC
How often do you need to stabilize: It just happens since I'm doing the RC all the time
How many breaks have you taken from LDing and how long were they: None, I dislike my non lucids.
Time Dilation thoughts: I think time dilation is no more than the tricking of the human mind, so even the 300 years lucid to me, was just me tricking my mind into believe that much time happened even if it felt like actual years going by.
WBTB thoughts: I don't like it, if I wake up will go back to sleep right away or just WILD.
Coolest thing you have done in a lucid dream: Two hours dream fights are the best, latest one was vs a bearer, female, I called her Yggdrassil since she was some kind of tree
Links that you recommend: Too lazy to link <.<

      Age: 21
Age when you started LDing: 15
How long have you been LDing: 7 years
How many LD's have you had: Lost Count
How often do you LD daily: I don't LD everyday but I can if I wanted to.
      Average LD Length: 5 minutes
      Longest LD: 1 hour
Longest it felt: A few days
      Dreams per night: 10
      Longest Dream: 2 hour's or above ( I don't know )
      Longest it felt: A week
Spiritual Belief in regards to LD (Physical, metaphysical, spiritual): Lucid Dreaming is a apart of a test that is meant to show us that all perception is false and that sensation and consciousness is real. Obtaining enlightenment from one's inner world by giving them a higher consciousness while discarding all attachments the mind has to offer. Only then can the awareness go to the next stage in consciousness.
DILD or WILD: DILD unless intent
      How do you WILD: Meditation
How often do you attempt to WILD: Not often
How often do you WILD: Not often
How much time per day do you spend on LDing: I don't spend a great deal of time with the idea of LD, it is something normal in my life.
How much do you sleep per night: I don't sleep at night, I sleep for 10 hours to 12 hours.
How much time do you spend on LDing at night: 4 - 8 minutes
How do you meditate: I am very simple minded. Only sensation.
      Do you use ADA: No
Thoughts on ADA: Not an effective way to LD and waste of energy.
Thoughts on ADA-RC: Can be helpful at times but shouldn't be relied on all the time as it can lead to deception.
How do you stabilize: Rubbing hands, controlling my breath, heightening my awareness through a specific sensation.
How often do you need to stabilize: Not often.
How many breaks have you taken from LDing and how long were they: I usually don't try to LD anymore. Eventually the lucidity will naturally occur even without intent in a week or less.
Time Dilation thoughts: If you can imagine it, then it is possible. All things are possible if it is with in thought.
WBTB thoughts: Very helpful and fun.
Coolest thing you have done in a lucid dream: Obtaining higher consciousness

      As of February 8, 2018

      Age: 21
Age when you started LDing: 15
How long have you been LDing: 60.5 active months
How many LDs have you had: 1,047. (DEILDs, complete loss of lucidity, and FAs can all separate one LD into 2 or more.)
How often do you LD: 22.2 LDs/month (last 6 months), 17.3 LDs/month (overall)
      Average LD length: 1 minute, 19 seconds. (53% lasted 0-20 sec | 23% lasted 21-60 sec | 12% lasted 1-2 min | 7% lasted 2-5 min | 3% lasted 5-10 min | 0.8% lasted 10-20 min | 0.9% lasted 20+ min)

Longest dream: Whatever the length of a sleep cycle is after 22-24 hours of straight sleep
Longest a dream felt: Probly a few hours.
Spiritual beliefs in regards to LD (physical, metaphysical, spiritual): I believe lucid dreaming is all in the mind, and I am grateful to God that we are designed in such a way that allows for this type of mind exploration. As for Astral Projection, I think it's just a lucid dream.
DILD or WILD: Both, of course.
How do you WILD: In short: (1) start with a Sporadic Awareness (SA) variant and a mantra. Wait for 1st cue, which is the first major moment my awareness threatens to fail. (2) At 1st cue, switch mantra to "I'm Dreaming" and emphasize it more. Continue with SA. Keep on the lookout for the 2nd cue, which is the bigger threat of awareness failure. (3) At 2nd cue, spam the mantra and continue with SA. Dream entry is near. (4) Keep up SA as entry takes place. When a stable image appears, passively track it. (0) If a full WBTB is not used, start the WILD with 7 SSILD cycles, then move to step 1.
How often do you attempt to WILD: Every night
How often do you WILD: A few times a month, though I'm rapidly gaining speed with my recently completed strategy.
How much time per day do you spend on LDing: Not sure what this is asking. If it means all the time spent on forums, thinking/planning about lucid dreaming, and using the Sporadic Awareness Tech (SAT), then it ranges from 10 minutes to several hours.
How much do you sleep per night: 8-9 hours
How much time do you spend on LDing at night: on WBTB nights (every other night), 20 minutes
How do you meditate: Sporadic Awareness variant. Focusing on sound, I acknowledge an individual source, then move on to the next until I've done so with everything I can hear. Next, I make more of these passes on the sense of touch, and sometimes sight is thrown in there too. I often mix it up at random. I do not set aside any time for this; I just do it during the day whenever I remember and while I do things.
Do you use ADA: No, I use SA.
      Thoughts on ADA: Unrealistic effort
Thoughts on ADA-RC: Not sure what this is.
How do you stabilize: Initially, I spin and rub my hands together. Then, I activate SA and make out the exact shapes of objects to various degrees. This produces a crystal-clear, top-notch environment.
How often do you need to stabilize: Since I want to experience top-quality environments, I go through with the above process, even if the dream is already stable when I become lucid. Outside of initial stabilization, I don't know. Further testing is required.
How many breaks have you taken from LDing and how long were they: 5 months in 2013. This is the only break I skip in calculations as if it was never there. I have been lucid dreaming for ~61 months, even though it's been ~66 months since I started.
      Time Dilation thoughts: Mind trickery
WBTB thoughts: The backbone of my strategy.
Coolest thing you have done in a lucid dream: I partially transformed into a Lucario and had developments of physical sensation--the tail was the most complete.
