    1. Ranking of "checkpoints" in dreams

      by

I recently had a dream where I saved a very nice checkpoint that I could reload like in game. For fun, I ranked my top dreams up to the "Checkpoint" dream, determining the best checkpoints I could have in previous dreams. This considers if I want to have fun, do activities, or retreat to a safe haven in the midst of a dangerous fight.

      1. Enigma: The basic premise of the dream, revisiting 6 past dreams.
      2. L: the sheer amount of control I have here is insane, and the aquarium seems safe and beautiful enough.
      3. Perfect Plan: very cool and has myself to consult in case something goes wrong.
      4. The Dream Guide: The titular character could be very helpful.
      5. Nice Meal: at a beach with my sister, en route to good food and music. What more could you ask for?
      6. SERENDIPITY: the cool beginning may be double edged, but meeting two of my friends and the potential with amazing ending is promising.
      7. Hypothesis: Also with a really big amount of control and potentially able to go anywhere
      8. Beautiful Garden: The titular location is very pretty and I have telekinesis.
      9. Deja vu ii: has a similar theme and is very nice, only problem is it seems to be going nowhere
      10. To the Sun: The hill is very pretty and it's worth seeing where Jamie is going off to or using the lighthouse as vantage point.
      11. Detective Noir: I'm in a bar with black and white style which is pretty cool.
      12. High Level Area: The challenges and the obstacles seems pretty interesting.
      13. Dream Competition: I had gone through quite a bit to reach a relatively safe place. The titular event also seems interesting.
      14. Checkpoint: Truly one of the outliers of the 3/5 dreams, it has the best "checkpoint" out of them all -- a beautiful girl greets me and says it's a nice day. Though simple, it surpasses a lot of one-time 5/5's and even 6/5's.

    2. My LD journey

      by
      9sk
      , 08-01-2020 at 10:25 PM
Let's start from the beginning, I was born in Jan 7, 1999 and I had nightmares and bad dreams when I was really young. Floods and monsters were reoccurring themes. I remember some sleep paralysis that was pretty bad. I was bullied a bit in school in China and that was reflected by the lower dream quality, I think the handful of good dreams were as low as my six star rate overall.

When I moved to US near 2011~2012, I had Fish and Superheroes, my first truly potentially good dream, then I had My Heroine, my first 4/5 dream which I originally rated as 5/5. My first recorded lucid dream seems to be Defeated sister, but the date looks really wrong and I probably randomly assigned it. The true first LD is likely "Too easy, let's go back".

After Nice Meal With Sister, (2013) my best non-lucid dream, I had a year gap with nothing significant, except Table Turn, the first time I had turned around a nightmare, which was from lucidity. The "Great Adventures" hinted at the pattern of awesome dreams that would soon come next.

Within half a year after I watched Sixth Sense, I had a series of excellently unpredictable dreams. The real catalyst was SERENDIPITY, which was so incredible that it took three years to have another dream better than it (not including Enigma and OZ). I attempted WBTB sessions, MILD, dream journaling, etc. resulting in an overall 20% LD rate in that time. After only four months I had OZ&SHIOM, my best dream ever, which has not been beaten for 5 years, as a result of wanting to defeat SERENDIPITY.

After 2015 I was satisfied for the most part and mostly only LD'd a little. Nothing that impressive happened until mid-2016's with the best flying dream ever, SOAR. Within three months I was off to another small streak with DEJA VU, RISING AGAINST, X-Rated, and at a stretch SPORTSFECTION (induced on purpose). I like to nickname this the "silver age". [visualization: https://prnt.sc/tsfs9s]

2017 however was not a great year, I got split up with my crush Abby and I had no awesome dreams for three months in a row. I was therefore extremely goddamned lucky that I had ACTION! ROMANCE! my second favorite dream, in August. It was incredibly ground-breaking and even challenged Oz for its title. The rest of 2017 was relatively uneventful though.

2018 was a weird year. It started off with my worst dream, and one of the best. I still wasn't over the split up, especially since A!R! didn't help, and so that explains why I had "Angry Abby". However, what makes this really unusual is that the very same night I somehow, somehow managed to have A Piano Battle of Fire and Ice. I have a bunch of weaker awesome dreams like IT COULD HAPPEN and THE CONCERT, before one night I watched a comic-based music video and had "Badass Soul Mate", that let me regain a bit of my sense of self (along with 50% lucidity rate across two months).

Sadly, 2019 was/still is the worst year yet. I think the grades pressure got to me. It started off with a very promising True Path to Victory dream relating to my intuition, but nothing else matched it. After "Hidden Falls" I decided irl to go to a boot camp to reset the mindset. In boot camp I ironically still had two awesome dreams which were silly but nice -- dream quality actually went up which was cool.

In 2020, my mind was refreshed, and I built up a mystery involving Virsieras, the dream architect. Then, I had ENIGMA, an incredibly unique dream revolving around finding Easter eggs in past dreams. I had been determined to have at least one awesome dream each month and I've been successful so far. The year is looking good. The dream titled "L" in particular deserves a mention due to its incredibly strong gimmick. Had it not been for Enigma, "L" would've taken the cake for this year.

2021 was sadly not very eventful overall. The first half of the year I got busy with school, outside activities such as DND, internships, etc. however, I had played Genshin Impact extensively and influenced a non lucid dream rivaling the power of Nice Meal —AQUARIUS, an astounding display of flying red fish in space. With the dwindling of dream recall, only Alter Ego and Ingenious Gauntlet kept the awesome dream streak going.

      - why can no one beat me to the airplane?
      - how can I be the crowned prince of Darius if I took down a monarchy myself?
      - who did I date for 16 years in Romantic Reunion?
      - what happened to the two puzzle pieces in RISING?
      - what happened to DJ's girlfriend?
      - what happened with Abe Lincoln and the sci-fi society?
      - who wanted to kill the soul mate?
      - what's the difference between dream guide and dream instructor?
      - what's up with the weird white worm in Virsieras's world?
      - is the city in Hypothesis related to the power nulling snowglobe?
      - is princess Cliche the same person as the girl who burned down the building in the other dream?
      - where did Maestro origin from?
      - Where did "the Fish" go?

    5. reoccuring characters who only appear in good dreams

      by
      9sk
      , 03-27-2020 at 01:16 AM
I notice that most recurring characters in my dreams have at least one bad dream one way or another, so I thought it would be notable to list the ones with only good dreams to see if there is a pattern:

      Lindsey Stirling (my favorite artist)
Iulia (real life friend, I dream of my omnipotence and sharing dreams with her)
Virsieras (genius inventor and inferred architect of my awesome dreams, though the dream with her world featured had an unsettling ending)
my soul mate (even our break up felt fine)
my subconscious (a bit cold acting, but his physical appearance seems to guarantee a good dream)
John, my alter ego (we have friendly competitions)
Jamie, a long time friend for years

Notable people who appear in bad dreams:
      - Mastermind (a smart man chased by an organization)
      - dream guide (couldn’t help on phone)
      - my sister (a weird dangerous situation)
      - my mother (due to her strict teaching irl)
      - Abby, my crush, due to our falling out

    7. Commentary on my written out "perfect dream" idea

      by
      9sk
      , 02-28-2019 at 10:20 PM
This is not a dream. A long time ago, I wrote a short story of sorts trying to imagine how I'd beat the dream. The story with no commentary except at the end is here, and the TLDR is basically the following elements I analyzed from previous amazing dreams combined together to create a story that sounds like my ideal dream:

      • Companionship Focus.
      • Fantasy element.
      • Conflict.
      • Light/dark balance.
      • Novelty element.
      • Vague location.
      • "Softened ending"
      • Use of music
      • Use of conversation
      • powerful moment

      The story is as follows:

It is complete darkness. [This is inspired from True Synthesia, where I gave myself the ability to see music as colors, which was greatly helped by the pure black background)

There is a timer and a robotic voice .... The display says 300 SECONDS in all red. Then the robotic voice counts down as the clock displays 299. [The sci-fi nature always appealed to me, and SERENDIPITY showed this off perfectly. The "number in red" actually occurred later in [I]Bittersweet Lovestory[I] where a number in red appeared]

I am instantly aware ....In a good old underwater bazaar, I'm walking down the streets, with medieval Scottish music playing. There is even a piano there... [Underwater was from OZ&SHIOM, and I thought the music theme might help along with my love for the piano]

270 on the timer I saw; I still had a lot of time, so I decide to play a nice melody that synchronizes and echoes the medieval music well, even though it is more of the science-fiction remix Skrillex style. After I play.... I am looking for something as a birthday present for my friend Jamie. [Jamie was actually the girl I liked from the time that I had written this]

I wonder what to buy, but nothing seems good. People are selling scraps of metal, paint, and hot dogs among with other foods...With great tension, I search more carefully. Then, I see a man also selling fireworks. Finally, something decent, I think, then go to him and try to haggle for him. Time was running low, so I quickly managed to get a low price. 215. Close call... [Fulfills the "conflict" aspect with little risk of pain]

I teleport to a different place where I will execute my mission. Wearing a casual-business style outfit, my heels click against the fancy marble floor as I walk forward to an elevator. It is mysterious and a bit dark but I am only filled with the emotion of curiosity along with interest. [The "business but mysterious" fits the mood that Mastermind bought me from OZ&SHIOM] A mysterious narrator whispers incoherently, before finally stating: "I will show you... Selcarim." I walk into the elevator and enter a palace of wonders. The art is amazing, along with ultra-realistic scuptures. The air is fresh and the mood is breezy along with being quite relaxing. 196 seconds left. I walk onto a gateway where I see Jamie there, sitting on what looked like a fancy boat polished with yellow and orange flames painted on the metal, and she invited me to join her.

I sit beside her. The narrative once again whispers something incoherent before stating once again: "I loved taking those rides on the Retsoac." The song "Burn" begins to play in the background. And with a whoosh, the boat rushed forward. 170, 169,168. Food rained from the sky and we took the hot dogs, hamburgers, and mexican tacos, eating them up, the hot salty taste sizzling in my mouth. The flames became real, but both of us only felt a reassuring unharming heat, warm and friendly, almost as if it was sentient. 140 seconds left. The time was reaching short. ["Adventure of Tasting Meat" showed that food tasted great in dreams]

... The narrator continues his explanation..." Lights appeared below, great lanterns floating up to us,the grand sky opening. 110, 109, 108... As the song still playing in the back transitions to its chorus-- "And we gonna let it burn, burn, burn..." -- Blue diamonds dazzle all around us in the sky, flashing from left to right, feeling as if they are passing through us, with blazing fireworks all around the blue diamonds. The diamonds seem to be a sentient being... [the "Lantern festival" was one of my goals, and the blue diamonds was inspired by a dream involving "Merkaba" from dream journal]

.... "Yes, he is--I am--the Rotarran." A blip indicates I was speaking in code all along. Rotarran rewinds to Narrator. Flashing back to the boat, Feileb was belief, and cigam was magic. Even before that, Retsoac was coaster. Flashing even before that, within the market, I had actually bought from every single person there and used all the products. Despite their looks of simplicity, I had managed to make the result very fancy... [This mystery is a bit stupid if you think about it, but I found the idea of reversing things kinda cool]

"You don't always have infinite time," 40 seconds, "You have to manage your resources carefully....it's not about what you have. It's about how you use them. Selcarim does not exist without persistence or hard work,"....Even little moments that are not considered Selcarim must be treasured." ..."... Because, in reality, Selcarim is..." And as I kiss Jamie with a meteor shower flying over us-- 10 seconds....the title in fancy font appears. [I tried thinking and writing out a valuable lesson, compared to other dreams about friendships, this is actually quite deep]

SELCARIM -- The timer quickly counts down the final seconds, as the landscape shifts around us, flowers growing, anticipating reaching a higher level.
      (countdown...)

Then it is reversed, with the result being...
      ....
      MIRACLES
[The mystery is finally solved and it's like a movie's credit scene]
      0:00 SECONDS. Perfect timing.

The kiss lingers on my lips as I wake up. [This goes back to a lot of romantic dreams where it ends with a great kiss]

So to recap, I basically believed that a combination of a countdown, medieval scene with music, transitioning to a cool business-like scene, preparing a surprise for my crush, and eating food on a rollercoaster with her all leading up to a surprise ending, would be able to beat my favorite dream. I do still believe that this story is strong enough to beat my current favorite (which is actually still the same), but the countdown and the twist are indeed very hard to pull off, and the business scene seems a bit unnecessary, even if adding further mystery to the story.

This is not a dream entry. For all my dream entries, visit http://dreamjournal.net/journal/drea...ame=9spaceking.

I've noticed color being significant sometimes so I wanted to mark down what they meant to me in my dreams:

      1. Synthesia (I gave myself ability to see music as color in a few dreams)
      • Wake Me Up (Avicii) creates a vast multitude of colors
      • Hey, Soul Sister creates soft pink and blue colors
      • Nuvole Bianche is slight tint of blue with hint of pink
      • The Magic Inside is violet
      • Burn (Ellie Ghoulding) is orange into red
      • Crystallize is light blue
      • Replay is autumn orange into green trees
      • Breaking Free is silver
      • Bad Apple is dark violet
      • Any Other Way is blood red

      2. Abilities
      • True Talent/Invincibility is marked as gold
      • Table-turn usually causes the scene to become white(r)
      • Efficiency power (imagining myself doing something in a montage within 20 seconds) causes the scene to grow dark with focus
      • Konami Code (a fence of invincibility) causes rainbows to flow around it

      3. To mark special events
      • A beautiful garden was green (with flowers all over)
      • A crush I had wore a beautiful red dress (in a dream) but I still chose my friend over her
      • I purposefully had a black-and-white detective adventure but color was used to mark important clues
      • The sky is only blue in peaceful/calm dreams
