    1. A rather epic FA leads to a flash of lucidity

I am clicking around the 'net and almost fall asleep in my chair. I decide that I should hop in bed and take a quick nap. The time is ~9:45pm. I lay down and fall asleep very quickly.

I awaken from a minimalistic dream, standing in darkness. I realize that I had just awakened, but I must still have my eyes closed because I cannot see anything at all. Knowing this, I decide to make an attempt at DEILD. I concentrate on keeping my eyes closed and then I try to remember where I was just a moment ago. I remember that I was laying in my bed, trying to remember what the dream was about. I cannot recall even the smallest detail, other than I was just dreaming.

Suddenly, I make the realization that I am not laying in my bed, but I am standing. Before I can gather myself together and stabilize, I wake up.

I try hard to immediately settle down, but my eyes are wide open and I am too alert and excited to re-enter the dream state, much less return to sleep right away.

(Note: I wasn't feeling very energetic yesterday, so I took a short nap in the early afternoon. During this nap, there was a brief dream, but I had no recall. By 11:00pm, I was falling asleep in my chair as I was surfing the 'net.)

I went to bed and my body fell asleep very quickly. I felt a couple waves of rumbling vibrations, so I opened my eyes for a moment and could see my room. I closed my eyes again and the vibrations returned for a brief moment. After the second set of vibrations had passed, I feel a strong lateral shifting. It felt as if there were an earthquake and my bed was rocking sideways. I struggled to remain motionless and enjoy the ride. During this time, I could hear a sound which sounded like a heavy train was going at full speed down the tracks. After a moment, the feeling of motion subsided and the sound faded out.

(Note: I'm marking this first segment as non-lucid, but I already had a low level of lucidity. I usually don't flag anything as lucid unless I'm fully lucid.)

I am standing in absolute darkness, listening to a loud partially squelched screaming in my ears. It sounds like a mixture of microphone feedback, white noise, and a low rumble. The sound crackles and fades in and out quickly. I reach up and cover my ears, but the sound just gets louder.

I look forward and can barely see that I am standing in front of a mirror. The light is very dim and I can see my face in the mirror, but things get a bit interesting. As I look into the mirror, the sound fades away. The edges of my face are irregular and are moving slowly. I become fully lucid and attempt to stabilize. I lift my arms so I can see my hands in the mirror. Upon examination, I count 6 fingers on each hand. I look back at my face and it is melting in the mirror. My nose falls off and my eyes are turning sideways and melting off my face. Suddenly, I remember that there is something I am supposed to do.

I remember the basic task of the month, so I look around for the right place to set off some fireworks. There is nobody in this area, so I momentarily look at the ground and teleport to a crowded library. Looking back up, I can see that I made it to the library. There are ~100 DCs in there, some of them just staring straight at me. I guess I startled them when I suddenly appeared in the middle of the room.

I reach into my pocket and pull out a lighter. Looking in the shelf next to me, I see a huge roll of firecrackers. I flick the lighter and light the fuse. As the fuse sparkles and smokes, I look around the library and see that nobody seemed to notice. The fuse burns into the roll and the first firecracker pops. I suddenly wake up, cussing.

    3. Industrial Work Station / Stretching a Bolt

I am working at an industrial workstation in a large warehouse. There are pallet racks along the walls and each work station has some industrial shelving for storing supplies. I am working with another guy on some wireless electronics. One of the devices has an FM transmitter, but I find that I don’t have a radio at my work station to test it with. I walk over a couple of work stations to see if I can borrow a radio from one of the other guys.

Two workstations away, there are 3 guys cutting some large PVC pipe into short sections. I ask if I can borrow their radio, and one of the guys reaches to the shelf and hands me a small radio. As I am walking back to my work station a large forklift drives by, carrying a load of pickle jars. I step out of the way so he can turn the corner, then return to my work station. The other guy messes around with the radio for a bit, but it doesn’t seem to be working.

I leave my work station once again and go back to where the guys were cutting the pipe. Once I arrive, I find that they are trying to bolt a divider wall between two work stations, but the bolts are too short to reach through the metal and into the concrete anchor in the floor. I pick up a bolt and hold it beside the bracket to see that it is just a little short. I grab the bolt by the head in one hand. And grab the tip of the threaded end in the other hand. I pull at the bolt for a bit, trying to make it longer, but it refuses to increase in length.

(Note: I think that I may have achieved a low level of lucidity at the point where I attempted to stretch the bolt. I watched the bolt intently, waiting for the metal to stretch, but it never did. If I would have seen the smallest amount of change in the bolt, it is likely that I would have become fully lucid.)

I am walking into a large parking garage, trying to find my friend. I walk in from the street level, and then take the stairs down to the lower level. I find nothing on that level, not even a car. I walk up the stairs and check each level, walking over to the elevator shaft in the center, but the entire garage is empty. I go back to the lower level and sit on the steps and wait. After a moment, I lean against the railing and fall asleep.

I am walking toward a small house in the woods. As I approach, the house appears to get smaller instead of larger. Once I arrive, the roof is barely taller than the door and the house is about the side of a small utility shed. Somehow remembering that I’m looking for a friend of mine, I open the front door and walk inside. The first room I walk into is huge. The ceilings are at least 12’ (3.7m) high and the room is quite large.

I walk through and into another large room. There are a couple of people messing around with something on a table, but my friend is nowhere to be found. I walk around the corner into a utility room, but there is nobody there. I walk back out into the main room and ask the people if they have seen my friend. They just look at me puzzled, and then resume what they were doing.

I am walking up a concrete and steel stairway, looking for a door that leads outside. The stairs are grooved concrete with a steel edge. The railing is a rusty orange steel pipe and the walls are concrete block. There is a small dim light at each switchback.

I get all the way to the top and find that there are no doors at any of the landings. I turn around and walk back down and find that there is only one door at the bottom of the stairway. Realizing that I am getting nowhere, I open the door and walk out.

I am leading a guy through an old tree house. We enter the main room, then go to the back and find a small passage way which leads into a hallway. The opening is very small, but we are able to crawl through. We walk to the end of the hall and find another small opening leading into another room. Again, we get down on the floor and crawl through the small opening.

This room is not geometrically correct at all. There is not a square corner and none of the walls are parallel. The floor is quite out of level and is a bit difficult to walk on. The design resembles one of those fun houses at an amusement park. On the other end of this room is a small door which leads into a dark space. I open the door and climb through into the darkness. Before I can gather my bearings, I realize that I am falling.

I am walking through a wooded area with a group of ~10 guys. There is an older guy leading us through some rugged trails. We approach a very small stone building with a low roof and a small doorway that is about 18” square. The room is about 8' x 8' and the ceiling is much lower in the middle than around the edges, being about 3' at the tallest point. We all sit along the wall and put out legs toward the center of the room. The leader opens a book and reads in a foreign language. As he reads, the room slowly shrinks until we are all nearly sitting on top of each other.

I am parked along the road in a junky Saturn car, cleaning trash off the dash and floor. I stuff a bunch of trash into a couple of plastic shopping bags, then I open the glove box to find that there is a pile of chicken wings in the middle with BBQ and honey mustard dumped in along the sides. Becoming a bit grossed out, I pull out the whole glove box and throw it out along the road. I start the car and back it along the grassy area off the ride of the road. I find a dirt bridge over the large ditch that I can cross and turn around on.

I am walking around with a realtor, checking out a house to potentially buy. The front entry room is quite large. There are two couches along the back wall and a large attached kitchen to the left. The is a really large refrigerator in the kitchen which has a red door on it. We walk through the hallway and pass a bedroom and bathroom, then walk out the back door.

Outside is a huge cement patio with a couple of trees in the back yard. We walk around and go in the basement door. The front half of the basement is finished into 2 bedrooms and a rec room. The back half of the basement is unfinished. There is a roll-up door on both ends and the floor is mostly gravel and broken concrete.

I wake up at my friend’s house and grab my laptop from the floor. Quickly, I open Writer and start to log the last couple of dreams. I get the rough entries typed in, then drop the laptop on the floor and go back to sleep.

I wake up and pick up the laptop to check the entries, and there is nothing there. I scratch my head for a moment, then open writer and check for recent files. There are none in the list. There are no auto-save files in the usual spot. I open my differencing disk application and there were no file changes at all this morning. After a “WTF” moment, I open writer and log these dreams.

I am in a Wal-Mart with a friend of mine, shopping for tires and some other auto parts. My friend is in the cart, and I’m pushing him around. We pick up a couple bottles of oil, and then I push the cart down the main pathway past the tire aisle. As I prepare to turn into the tire aisle, I see someone in the aisle that I don’t care to talk to. I skip the aisle and go over by the floor mats to wait for him to leave.

I waste several minutes, and then I walk through a couple of other aisles and see if he is still there. As soon as I pop around the corner, he looks over and sees me, then approaches. I turn around and look at a display end cap that has lug wrenches and other tools on it. He walks up as I pick up a large tire iron, shoot him a nasty look, then turn and walk away. He turns around and goes off somewhere else in the store.

I am driving my truck down a small single-lane country road. As a couple of cars approach from the opposite direction, I hold my lane position and flash my headlights. Both cars quickly get out of the way. I arrive at a small house and park my truck beside the garage. A guy walks out of the house and points to a Toyota Camry sitting in the driveway and says, “That's the one.” It's a light tan, late 90's Camry with over-sized tires on it. I look in the window and see that the floor and seats are full of junk. He starts to move all of the stuff and I return to my truck to grab my backpack.

A lady approaches in another Toyota Camry and parks out along the road. She gets out and walks up to me, saying, “This one is 13 years old, so we bought this new one to replace it. It works well, but it's just old.” I reply, “That's not too old. It's just broke in.” She hands me the keys and walks into the house. I open the door of the car, but now there are no seats. The driver side has cushions on the floor and the center console is taking up half of the seating space. I go over to the passenger side and can actually fit in there. The car starts right up and I drive off.

As I'm driving down the single-lane dirt road, it is a struggle to figure out which gear the manual transmission should be in. It has a huge shifter like a road tractor which has entirely too many gear selections on it. As I drive along, constantly fighting with the shifter, I finally give up and pull over. I unfold a bicycle from my backpack and ride off, abandoning the car.
