    Bold Talk (Plus NLD Series)

    by , 08-10-2014 at 09:25 PM (1371 Views)
I've posted the lucid dream at the bottom of this entry but I'm going to start with some non-lucids. I don't usually post my non-lucids in the Dream Journal, but this was a cool series of four NLDs all from the same night as the lucid. All of the NLDs featured Dreamer as well as some other DV folks. The first dream about the magical fox was probably one of the funniest I've ever had.

    NLD#1: The Magical Fox

Lots of people on DreamViews are in a big, active study group on advanced dream control. There are 40 or 50 of on this subforum and everyone’s got workbooks that they update regularly. Definite participants include me, Dreamer, Xanous, sivason, NyxCC, and Sensei.

There’s tons of excitement and everyone’s improving rapidly. At some point, we come up with a strange plan to capture a rare, magical animal to use as a class pet. This will somehow improve everyone’s dream control even more. We come up with this awful plan to cut down all of these ancient trees in an old growth forest to drive the creature out of its habitat so that we can more easily capture it.

I’m embarrassed to say that I and nearly everyone else in the class was totally for this plan, but Dreamer is dead-set against it. She objects, begging the study group not to do this and not to destroy this creature’s way of life just to improve our skills a little bit. But everybody’s too excited about the plan to listen.

Dreamer puts a desperate plan into motion. She announces in her workbook that, “I just GASSED!” (Meaning “passed gas”.) And somehow this amazingly strong, room-clearing stench hits the nose of every DV member at same time that she makes this announcement. Everyone stops what they’re doing, horrified.

Now that she has farted her way into everyone’s attention, Dreamer gives a rousing, moving speech about how what we’re about to do is wrong and that we have to change out ways. She says that this magical creature should be free and that it should serve as an inspiration for us out there in its natural home. We shouldn’t be destroying the place that it loves.

She convinces everyone and we halt our plans to deforest the fox's home. Instead, the study group travels out to the forest to commune with the creature and learn advanced dream control this way. The dream ends with a scene of several people sitting down meditating and several others talking about how inspired we all were by Dreamer’s speech.

    NLD #2: The Dreamsign
After Dreamer and I exchanged Skype messages during WBTB, I had the following dream (and a huge missed dreamsign):

I look over to see that I’ve received a skype message from Dreamer. It says, “You did wind up falling asleep, right?” I feel guilty for still being “awake” and looking at the clock instead of trying harder to get into a dream. I fret about this for a bit before finally replying with something jokey.

It never occurs to me that she was basically trying to tell me that I’m dreaming right now.

    NLD #3: The Watch
This one’s a little hazy, but Dreamer and I have come into possession of a complex, advanced wristwatch that an elderly black woman constructed by hand.

From the top of a parking garage, we get into a car and ride around in the back seat, me watching as Dreamer disassembles the watch into all of these tiny pieces. I worry a bit about how to keep the pieces from getting lost in the car.

We go to some other building to do something important and possibly dangerous, but I can’t recall what was involved.

NLD #4: Hot Street Fighter II
This dream was a cross between skyping and exchanging DV forum posts, the conversation taking place entirely between me and Dreamer.

Dreamer: “I had a dream where you had these super HOT scenes with ladies from Street Fighter II.”

She goes on to mention that she was telling a couple of other DV friends (including KristaNicole07) about the dream. She asks, “I wanted to know if it was okay to tell them you don’t have a beard.”

I ask why they’d need to know that and Dreamer responds: “It’s really relevant to what happened in this dream.” Whatever the reason is that this is relevant, it appears to be highly amusing to her.

After I woke up from this one it occurred to me that there is only one female character in the original Street Fighter II. Maybe we can count Cammy of Super Street Fighter II. Because otherwise, the dream implied that I had a “hot” scene with Blanka or Ken or one of the rest of the crew.

    Color legend: Non-dream Dream Lucid

    Lucid #230: Bold Talk

I’m at home, walking through the master bathroom toward the gym. I’m clumsy, staggering around like I’m dizzy or drunk. Out of nowhere there’s a buzzing noise, electric and unbearably loud. It reminds me of the transition into a dream and I realize that I’m dreaming right now.

I don’t feel stable right away but I furiously rub my hands together, immediately remembering my goal to try to gain total control and confidence in this dream.

“This is my lucid dream!” I bark. “I can do anything!” The gym looks dark and I don’t want to double back. It doesn’t matter, I remember right away that the next thing I want to do is phase outside. I phase through an external wall, expecting to end up outdoors but end up in some new, relatively empty room. It looks like it belongs in my house but it’s not a room that I recognize. Fine. Again! I try another phase through the outer wall…

And wind up in a larger, more bare version of my master bathroom. I’m a little annoyed but I figure that confidence will carry me through this in the end. I hit a nose pinch reality check, breathing in and out a couple of times to cement in my mind that this is a dream.

There’s a mirror and I look over at it to see a more hulking, slightly angrier-looking version of myself. I decide to try to summon Dreamer. I say, “There’s a woman here, right behind!” There’s an uncertain stir in the mirror’s image. I remember to hurriedly add, “And it’s gonna be Dreamer!”

This isn’t working and I don’t have a DC to repurpose as Dreamer. I turn away from the mirror, intending to switch to a handshake summon, but
    the dream ends.

Hi CL, hope you won't mind the observation: as I'm reading your DJ, I was wondering why your dream self starts out with the desire to gain mastery over the dream--as though it needed to be attained? Also wondering if this is (paradoxically) why you weren't able to gain that mastery?

I mention this in regards to the NLD you had with the fox. Both of these seem to link together for me, suggesting that maybe communing with the dream (or with whatever energy it is you're trying to harness) might be of some assistance in attaining some of your goals? Maybe your subconscious mind was trying to tell you something important about dream control! Dreamer's DC also seems to be a very helpful force in your dreams, so maybe you can tone down the "bold talk" and just ask the dream for assistance or even advice on what to do next? Maybe even ask some archetypal wisdom figure (Dreamer!?!?!) why you travel to the void so often?

I've noticed that a lot of dreamers (myself included) are very much about control in the dream, and seem to only sporadically speak with the subconscious mind. Hope I don't sound too new-agey, but I have often awoken from my own dreams where I have tried desperately to fly (or whatever) only wake up and wonder, "Why didn't I ask that homeless person why they were in my dream?" Who knows what they might have said? I wish you luck in your journeys

EDIT: Oh, and I think Dreamer chose a very good way to get Dreamviewers' attention

      I loooooooove the fox dream!
I am into some pretty unorthodox forms of activism, but this one really takes the cake!
Maybe this came from all your super advanced fart incubation!

This is a really cool collection of dreams, I'm so honoured to have featured in all of them!
Well, the thought was there in the LD, anyway!
      This is funny:

I remember to hurriedly add, “And it’s gonna be Dreamer!”
That seems like something that a dream might grab onto and do the total opposite, just because you've anticipated it...
8 foot hairy guy wearing a mankini? Coming right up!

Your daily incubation is doing wonders for the dream challenge. You're blowing me out of the water right now!
Great work for the whole night, this is amazing!

@ThreeCat - Not only do I not at all mind the observation, I very much appreciate you taking the time to make it! I think you're onto something for sure. My goal remains the same: attempt to express total control over a dream in practice, but it's just like you said... it is already mine if I can only internalize that fact.

That's what I thought I was going for, but my wording betrays the fact that my mindset just wasn't right yet!

All good advice! I was embarking on a bit of an experiment here where I was trying to crank the dial up on my dream control abilities. Interestingly, I've had experiences where bold, even profane talk has led to some really strong dream control for me in the past. It seems that I benefit from whatever I can use to cement in my mind the fact that this is my dream.

Some of my most successful dream control came with lucid #100 (a rather astonishing coincidence) and I think to some degree I'm trying to bottle some of that magic. I've seen it, I've done it, and I know it's there. But it's rare for me to capture it so completely.

Agreed! I've encountered some truly brilliant dream characters. I mean, yes, there are a lot of rather dull-witted, uninteresting dream characters in some cases but on the whole the dream world and its inhabitants are interesting as well as endlessly entertaining.

What I'm hoping to strengthen is the knowledge that I can control any aspect of the dream but not necessarily spend tons of time using this skill. It's something that I have internalized on specific tasks like flying, phasing, etc. But I'd like to see whether I can make the power of full control a part of my total mindset. And then, with that in mind, just use it judiciously to navigate the dream and accomplish the goals that I've set out for myself.

EDIT: Oh, and I think Dreamer chose a very good way to get Dreamviewers' attention
      Indeed she did! Ultra effective!

@Dreamer - Ha ha, that one was so funny. I had a great time writing out my notes on that one afterward.

And it's absolutely true what you say... thanks to your dare, you have driven me to excel and to become a better lucid dreamer, one who can fart himself into the stratosphere on command. (Edit: until I achieve this, that's just more bold talk as of right now... but soon!) You have made dream-farting a part of my life in a way that I never would have thought possible.

Glad you liked em! I certainly loved dreaming them!

@Krista - Exactly! I've got a rep to uphold. People look at that wonderful, hairy wolf avatar and then my reputation is shot when they discover that I'm really just some beardless dude who thinks wolves are cool.

I hate it when this kind of thing happens!
Heh, yeah I was feeling a little stuck there! And then I allow a little frustration in, which makes it really a thing now.

Emotional control has such a big role to play in this stuff. When I let something bother me, my problems tend to multiply and get more and more exaggerated!

Thanks for saying that, Nyx! It's actually timely, too, as well as flattering. I've been thinking about what I should do about my NLDs!

On one hand I have a long tradition of only posting my lucids. But some NLDs might make pretty good journal entries. Maybe I could start journaling high-quality NLDs that have DV members in them? I'll have to think about this some more.

Yeah, I was really pleased about this too! Especially since I began the story on the wrong side of this one, ha ha. It all worked out in the end and I learned about a brand-new form of activism.

Maybe I really should do this. You're featuring in a huge % of my DV member dreams, and I'll just wind up journaling them in the DV member challenge thread rather than here. Probably better to just let that be mostly links rather than having to hide everything in spoiler tags to keep the size down.

Okay, I'm gonna try journaling just the DV member NLDs and see how this goes!

Ah, that's so cool, so there will be more awesome entries posted soon.

Talking of dv member non-lds, had one featuring you couple of days ago. Never journaled it but in short you had developed the ultimate dreaming & virtual reality world one could go into from waking life. Your DC was in this dream virtual reality explaining how we could use multiple appearances in this place and changed to different DCs and even an alien.

My non-lds are pretty boring most of the time so found this quite cool.

Hey you know what? I just received our notification that our Oculus Rift dev kit has shipped, so hopefully that's the first step toward working on this very sort of thing! (Do you know about the Oculus Rift?)

Yeah, it's a pretty amazing potential future that my partners and I are really excited to (hopefully) be a part of!

We've had the chance to work with an early version of the hardware (known as "dev kit 1") but this one should be substantially more powerful. We got to show off a hands-on demo to lots of attendees at a convention and it was very well-received, even with the early version of the tech!

I'll have to check that compilation video out. I'm looking forward to getting the chance to test it on my family members! Wife is still a VR skeptic (can't blame her or anyone else who grew up in the 90s) so I'm curious to see what her reaction is like.

Do you think technology can ever get close to a vivid lucid dream with one of these set-ups? PM or reply to me if you have a kickstarter or anything for what you are working on. I would probably be interested to kick-in some kickstarter-like funds. Exciting stuff!!
