Lucid #261: Have a Badass Day

I’m standing in a store that looks like a cross between a barber shop and a clothing store. There’s a mirror on every wall and as I catch sight of my own reflection, I see that Dreamer is standing just behind me and to the right. She acknowledges me with a casual nod, like it’s totally normal that we’re both here.

Dreamer goes back to shopping and as I think about how she might have gotten here, I realize that
this has to be a dream.

“[Dreamer], I’m having a lucid dream!” I say.

She gives me a skeptical look and says something like, “Right now? You’re sure?” Dreamer looks about ten years older than in waking life, and I notice that her hair is short, very light blonde but shot through with streaks of purple.

At first I think about working to convince her, but decide that no, once things get rolling, she’ll believe it too. I grab her hand and we run toward the store’s exit. There’s no door, just an open air exit that leads out to a street made of interlocking stones.

There’s a high stone wall ahead, and we have to turn left to make it around. There’s a shaft of yellow sunlight covering the road where we need to go, and for a moment I wonder whether it’ll block us. As I think this it shimmers like a glass barrier. We have some quick discussion about this as we approach it, and I say something about this “will be easy to phase through.” There’s a moment of pressure as we cross this threshold and then we’ve phased through.

We emerge on a dusty street that has a Mad Max vibe to it, like we’re in a post-apocalyptic desert. It looks a bit like something out of screenshots I’ve seen from Rage.

There’s an enclosed tunnel of metal and glass that stretches across the dusty road, and I become curious what’s inside. Still gripping Dreamer’s hand, I try to fly up there. There’s a little sticking point, though, and as I narrate my intent, for some reason I get the urge to sing. I start belting out whatever comes to mind, and an electric guitar immediately starts playing along in the background. (Yes, these are the actual lyrics... I "performed" them into my phone upon waking. )

I want you to know that I’m happy to be here,
Let’s fly up in the sky,
    And have a badass day!

I really belt out the last part. I try to keep going, but I’m too busy laughing about the very silly lyrics that I’ve already sung. We manage to fly up just a bit above the tunnel, and as I’m trying to get a view of the rest of the town,
    the dream ends.

That sounds like a very cool place and time! You also got a hit tune happening.

Good job on the phase through, even though you were questioning it! I love the song...it made you happy

That's cool seeing Dreamer got you lucid. I guess all those summons pay off. Also, I like the scene you merged into and the song. Put a little heavy metal and make it scream-o and you got an original song.

@Tihiti - Thanks, the setting was cool! (settings, plural?) None of it seemed to fit a single theme, which was interesting, but is never entirely unexpected when it comes to dreams!

Ha ha, I tell you, although the lyrics seemed goofy both in the dream and in waking life, the sound was sooooo much better in the dream than in waking life. I stumbled out of bed and did a quick, horrid recording of the tune with my pitiful wake-up voice. I may have carried the hit single back with me, but I carried back not one shred of talent.

@darknightedlady - Thanks, you're right, I was in danger of turning that part into a real problem! Fortunately I've grown comfortable enough with phasing over lots and lots of practice that my distracted mind didn't get me into too much trouble.

I'm glad you liked the song! You know, I truly believe that some of the outward expressions of joy I've seen in your DJ carried over into this dream! Your spoken mantras such as "Everything will bring me joy" (I think I paraphrased there) have come to mind as the sort of words that I'd want to use in my own lucids. The whole part about "having a badass day", though, that was all me though.

@Xanous - Thanks man, yeah it really paid off! It was such a lucky break too because I'd gone into this dream with a completely different set of plans (constructed using Dreamer's goal-chaining technique but not involving her) that her appearance didn't seem as likely. And when we were doing our challenge, she had tons of non-lucid appearances where I didn't even get a flicker of lucidity. So I was really fortunate with this one!

Ha ha, that's the 2nd time in recent days that I've seen a reference to "screamo" music and I had to google it to even know what it was! I know you're kidding but dude, I'd be so happy if I actually managed to bring back a really good song from a lucid dream like that! Especially since I've never actually composed any decent music before... yet I can hear amazing music in my dreams that's generated entirely inside my head. So surely there's a composer in there somewhere, right? Maybe even a scream-o one?

Wow, I can actually see that song idea of yours working out if it had the right tune to it. XD At first it would be light and gentle. Than it would come out with a fast hardcore guitar like in screamo music. But not too much screamo or our ears would bleed. Lol ^w^

@DawnEye11 - Ha ha, nice! Now the only thing holding this project back is my complete and utter lack of waking life musical talent!

And don't be alarmed by the ear-bleeding. My singing has this effect on people.

Ah, I must have missed this entry! What an cool place your mind has created. And speaking of creativity those were some badass lyrics. I'm sure it was a lot of fun coming up with these and hearing the guitar. Wasn't there some related dare you were trying to do? I must catch up with that thread.

I've finally caught up with this dream, too!

I'm so excited that seeing me sparked your lucidity! That is sooo cool!

OMG, your song - I love it!
I now have a new request for a voice recording! Completely unrelated of course...

Yeah I thought that getting lucid this way was really cool too! You are just all over your dreamsign / Dream Guide gig, ha ha... thanks for showing up to help!

LOL. Oh maaaan, the croaky, horrible, stuttery phone version is an embarrassing, half-baked shadow of the badass musical flow and voice I'm capable of producing in lucid dreams.
