Airplanes as a metaphor for dreams (fragment)

Oh this is so fustrating. I just had it! And it was cool, and kind of a combination of previous dream fragment, but different. I thought I had stabilized it, but then when I shifted and got IPad it was gone!

Definitely airplanes, this time military ones (after the fragment earlier tonight the mental image I got was of a large commercial airplane). Definitely also standing in for dreams.

Well since I can't remember what, I will improvise: dreams are like airplanes because ...

    Flights of fancy
    Flying is common in dreams

    Why military airplane this time?

Getting ready to fight? The enemy? Myself? My low self-esteem (which is not nearly as low as it was two weeks ago)

    I don't know, don't remember. Argh!

Thinking of military aircraft as metaphor for dreams, I also thought of those targeted problem solving dreams like missile drones targeting a specific issue and then blowing it up.

Well, they've risen up now from fish to airplanes - I suppose that's a significant evolution! Stay on target!

More thoughts - fish are very unconsciuos creatures _ I doubt they have much if any consciousness really. IN fact I was thinking about this just recently (probably after your dream of fish as dreams) - trying to figure out which animals can really be considered conscious and which can;t - I'd say mammals all can be, reptiles I don't know - hard tp saywhat's going on in their heads. Fish are the evolutionary predecessors of retiles - though of course modern fish are probably a bit more conscious than the primitive ones. Insects - I'd say definitely not. Fish though - hmmm. To me they make a perfect metaphor for unconsious thoughts/dreams because deep water is such a perfect metaphor for the unconscious itself.

Now at least your idea of dreams has risen up into the clear air and light - though perhaps dangerous. Might just be that drones are so prevalent in the news lately and sort of resemble fishies? Sharks more like.

I like your ideas Darkmatters. All except the fish being unconscious - you've never kept fish, have you? One can train some fish to do tricks for food. Some fish recognize their owners as opposed to strangers. Fish have different personalities, and different kinds of fish have very different social structures. The fish I keep are: danios which are kind of psychotic, and spend their time in dominance games and constant chasing; Cory catfish which like to nap and snuggle and are very social and goofy (puppy like); and platies which are so glutonous that they actually come to the aquarium wall to beg for food (kind of like the guinea pigs of the aquarium world). I plan to someday get a betta fish, which one can train to do all kinds of tricks, but bettas are known for having very different personalities from one another and are fairly demanding of human attention and get easily bored. So no, I would not say that fish are unconscious.

However, dreams rising from fish to airplanes is indeed significant. My fish aquarium hobby becomes less of an obsession and dreams become more important. Dreaming is no longer just a tool in overcoming the emotional damage I sustained on the fish themed forum. I remember how much I enjoyed flying and soaring in dreams. I use dreams to fight low self esteem and other issues - hence military aircraft.
