      Lichi's Workbook

Hello, i'm Lichi, 17 years old, from Argentina. I discovered lucid dreaming in a different forum like an year ago and since then I became very interested in lucid dreaming. Later I found this forum where people specializes in lucid dreaming and i realized that this is just what I was looking for.

My main objectives for lucid dream are not just to have fun, but to: a)fight most of my fears, b) practice certain skills, and c) get advice from dream characters as an aid to solve different situations in life.

I read many interesting articles in this forum which helped me to develop my dreaming techniques. Although I had only 4 lucid dreams yet (In which 2 of them were nightmares so I woke up as soon as I was lucid) I remember most of my dreams now. I keep a dream journal and I write down all of my dreams for over 2 months. Every time I am aware in real life I do a reality check, however I cannot say I do the same in dreams. Being aware helped me to obtain 2/4 lucid dreams but I didn't any reality check so they were very weak. My main reality check is the finger through the palm, but when I have the possibility of doing different ones I just do them. Also I try to think about a situation, even if it is not weird and question myself "Could this be a dream?".

When I read a post about awareness I started to take this matter seriously I strongly believe it helped me a lot, not just for dreams but for real life too. I know that reading a post doesn't make you a professional, that's why I decided to sign up in this course.

      Hi Lichi, welcome!

I like your attitude and your thinking about lucid dreaming.

Lucid dreaming is a perfect way to get rid of your nightmares. Some books recommed to 'kill them with kindness'. What means, express your love and acceptance towards the scary characters. It works under assumption, that those are just part of you, maybe a part you don't like about yourself so you rejected it. Once you accept it and show it love, it will disappear or reintegrate with you.

If you into not just fun but also exploring your higher self to learn about yourself, I can recommend book Lucid dreming - the gateway to the inner self by Robert Waggoner. The whole book gives excellent examples and ideas how to do just that.

In the meantime, you can try asking when in lucid dream directly what you would like to get an answer for - like you mention some life situations. Some ideas from book: "Show me something important for me to see", Show me something beautifull","Tell me how to ...". Please post if you have any questions. Happy dreams

      Thanks for the reply,

Well when I said that I wanted to fight my fears I didn't mean that I needed to fight my nightmares. Actually I like nightmares a lot since they are very vivid and they have a lot of action.
What I actually tried to mean with this is that instead of fighting fears (such as speaking in public) in the real life, I can do it in dreams and obtain the same results but without humiliation. I fought a fear in a dream once and I know that it's totally possible that's why it's something I want to do again. It's just a general objective that I have for dreams, which can motivate me a lot also.

What I would like to improve is the vividness in my dreams; increase the awareness in my dreams also; and maybe learn a new technique (mantra).

Oh, OK, I misunderstood about the nightmares. Yes, it's absolutelly possible to practice daily activities in lucids. I have read a story of a surgeon that practices procedures in his lucids. And also sportsmen, mathematicians, artists and others are practicing and getting ideas from their LDs.

Mantras are really simple and surprisingly powerfull phrases that we say repeatedly to affirm certain desired action or effect. They can be said during day, but they work best when said just as you falling asleep, as a last thought. They can be used for just about anything. "I remember my dreams" - for recall, "Next time I'm dreaming I look at my hands and realize I'm dreaming" - for realizing you dreaming, "I wake up from a dream and stay still" - to chain your dreams with DEILD technique. Mantras tutorial

You can increase vividness and awareness by yelling "Clarity now!" and "Awareness now!". Here is one of the stabilization tutorials. It should help with vividness and awareness. But I think, that raising you daytime awarness is the key. Here are some tuts:

Other ways to make hte dream clearer is to focus on something and use one of your senses.
Also from Argentina, so that means you speak Spanish?
Good luck with lucidity, and remember to keep your progress here!

Hey Lichi, sorry I didn't get a chance to reply until now
Your objectives sounds great and there is plenty to do to achieve them, obviously you know best on how to go about those, it's the skill of lucid dreaming we are here for!
Every time I am aware in real life I do a reality check, however I cannot say I do the same in dreams.
Gained awareness "That's not right!" > Reality check
The thing is you aren't aware in the dream at all, so perhaps targeting the part where you look out for things that are strange might be the best way to success.
Anyways I've got some tasks for you:
      - Keep writing in that dream journal
      - Work towards your objectives with lots of motivation
      - Try to spot if something odd happens are reality check because of it, actively think why you are RCing.
      - Read about some techniques and try some out, I recommend a WBTB MILD if you haven't tried it already
      - Write your progressions here.

      Thanks for your replies guys.

Gab, both guides of awareness are great. I experienced "awareness" in real life before knowing what it was. When i read KingYoshi's guide then I knew, and I knew that method was excellent for me. However it is as Arch says: the problem is that i'm not aware in the dream at all. Maybe because in real life I don't gain awareness by situations that might be weird. The idea that I might be dreaming just pops up out of nothing and after that I start using all of my senses and after that I do a reality check. Or it may be vice versa: I start using my senses a lot and that triggers the idea that I might be dreaming.

Along with awareness i'm trying mantra. My words are simple: "Im aware". I hope that that aids awareness. I believe it does.

Also i'm trying WILD most of the nights. I know that this section is not for that but it's kinda related to awareness. In fact last night I tried WILD but I fell asleep normally in the process. But in my dream I said: "Damn, I couldn't do WILD, I fell asleep. Oh well maybe next time" and I continued with the dream normally. Even saying that I couldn't become lucid. This is not the first time this happens. A while before, in a different dream, I was shuffling cards and they turned into passports, so I said "Cool! Im dreaming!" however I DIDN'T BECOME LUCID!!! That itself is a problem that I have to solve...

Although i'm not a good lucid dreamer yet I'm trying DILD/MILD and WILD but I believe that most of the theoretical part is done, I just need more practice. An old Kung Fu saying is "I'm not afraid of the man that knows 1,000 moves and practiced them all once, I'm afraid of the man that knows one move and practiced it 1,000 times." Anyways I will write all my progress here and I won't ever give up trying. My motivation may be up and down but I will finish this no matter what.

      Thanks for the help guys!

P.S: Yes I speak spanish Hukif.

Feel free to talk about your WILD experiences here, it can help us know your progression.
Well it sounded like you became lucid? If you realised you were dreaming? You could have just faded out of conciousness straight away.
Keep at it, failing a WILD is pretty much a WBTB MILD attempt, so keep it up!

Yeah, keep at it, I'm crap at WILDs but I give it about 5 attempts a week, eventually you will get there

      My progress:

      1) I kept writing on my dream journal. There are some dreams that I didn't write but I still remember them, with a lot of details. I have very good recall.
      2) Im practicing mantra: "Im aware" it's what I say. Maybe it will work inside a dream.
      3) Im not trying WILD very well because I set the alarm at 2 am and it wakes me up but im not fully awake... (my mind is still unconscious) so i turn around and get back to sleep. When my alarm for schools wakes me up, at 7 am, I try to remember about what happened at 2 am but sometimes I don't even remember.
      4) I found out that reading my old dreams motivates me and it gives me more chances to become aware.

By the way Arch, I didn't become aware in that dream, I said that in my dream unconsciusly... It was really weird to say that and not being aware but that's what happened.

Ah it isn't that weird actually, it happens to a lot of people that they say it but odn't become aware, the reason being that we don't really pay attention to what we say in waking, so even if you say it it won't register and the brain won't take it seriously.
Also, maybe you want to wake up a bit later for WILD? Like at 3 am instead of 2 if you are too zombie at the time?

      My progress:

I had two dreams where I questioned myself "Am i dreaming?" and I did reality checks. I wrote both of them in my DJ. My first dream was a short lucid one because at the moment I became aware the dream collapsed. The second one was failure in some way because I did three different reality checks and none of them worked. However the possitive thing about this is that im questioning myself if im dreaming a lot more often.

I have more vivid dreams, and I remember all of them very detailed. There is no need that I write them as soon as I wake up because it can be the middle of the day and I still remember them. That's why im writing them on DreamViews.

Which RCs are you trying, btw?

Most of the reality checks I do have 0 requirement, meaning that I just use my body. The most common (and the ones I did in my dream were):
      a) Finger through palm
      b) Looking at my hand and find defects
      c) Snapping my fingers

Quite often if I have some text or numbers nerby I pay attention and see if the letters/numbers change but in the dream I didn't have it so i didn't do it.
Rarely I try other reality checks like the one of the switch and the nose plug (Once a month maybe).
Those are all the reality checks I try.

      My progress:

      Normal dream recall.
Now im not too zombie for WILD, I guess I could do it but what im thinking in that moment is that it will be impossible for me to fall asleep. I discovered that I have negative thoughts, I think I won't be able to make it but at that time I don't realize im being so negative (Has nothing to do with being zombie, maybe with my mood)

      My progress:

      • Last night I had a lucid dream. I did just a reality check and that was enough to realize (But it didn't work very well). This time I didn't think I was dreaming, this time I knew I was dreaming.
      • I am able to recall more dreams every night. I can recall 3 dreams from last night, and I remember all with many details.
      • I will start trying DEILD technique.

Oh, cool you had a lucid! And even better, recall is going up. Need any advice on the DEILD? Also, do you wake up naturally during the night?

No, i don't wake up naturally during the night. I was reading the WILD class and Sageous said that it's not recommended to wake with an alarm clock so i've been trying for 2 days now waking naturally, but couldn't yet. I discovered that not waking up during the night makes a lot harder the recall of the first dreams. Although I was able to remember like 4 dreams I had to focus a lot otherwise I would just remember the last one.

Im eating citrus fruits at night because i heard that it improves recall, so i'll see and then i write down here the results.

Also I tried melatonin 3mg for one night but my recall was horrible. I wasnt able to recall a single dream of that night.

Have you tried drinking water before bed? That should wake you up to go to the restroom (for WBTB/WILD).
Or saying a mantra "I wake up after each dream" so you can dry for a DEILD, or to write down your dream.

      Happy dreams
