      SO tired of flying.

Hey there. I have been lucid dreaming for a while now and though I've enjoyed my LD's, I've always had a problem with them. I go to bed with every intention of doing tons of amazing things, get lucid, and manage to hold on to the dream. Then disaster strikes. Every LD I have consists of two things; flying or sex. It's like as soon as I become lucid my brain just says "Hey, lets forget meeting historical figures or talking to our subconscious or fighting ninjas. Lets go flying and then get it on." I've done both at the same time before... -_- I figure this has to be either something going on with me subconsciously or a lack of dream control. Either way it is frustrating. I have literally unlimited possibilities and I only ever get to experience two. I'm pretty certain I could fly circles around anyone on DV at this point.

Heh, I so KNOW what you talking about. This has been plaguing me for so long.

Here are a few suggestions http://www.dreamviews.com/dream-cont...ease-help.html

I don't know if you WILD or DILD, but when I WILD, I have this mantra "slow down and walk". This is because no matter what, I always rush to first window and jump out to fly, or frantically looking for some higher ground to take off from. It has worked a few times.

      Hope this helps

This could be more a memory problem than dream control problem, Lucid_boy.

It could be that you are simply not remembering to do the things you had planned (happens to me all the time). Memory is shut off during dreams, even many lucids, and sometimes it needs a little kick during the dream to give you access to things like your goals, which were so obvious just a few minutes earlier. What you might consider doing is setting an intention that says you're going to pause when your flight starts and try to remember your goals. The first step in this pause should be remembering where you're sleeping body is, and then move on form there. Also, if you haven't already learned it, you might look into the MILD technique, as a side-effect of using it is easier access to memory.

Thank you guys for your responses. Especially the link you posted, Gab. One of the comments it contained made a lot of sense to me. Usually I use DILD or MILD. I can't ever fall asleep when WILD-ing. The closest I've gotten with that is SP. I think that I'm simply going to try a mantra or, when I do my RCs throughout the day, add in a snippet about NOT flying. I RC about 15 or 20 times a day, so this might have some sort of impact.

Thanks for the tip about pausing, sageous. I'll use it as a sort of back-up if just plain refusing to fly doesn't work out. I think I just have to start being a LOT more conscious of my own LDing desires in my waking hours instead of just when I'm about to fall asleep.

If I may suggest, don't think about not flying. Instead, think about walking. Because in 'not flying' the word and thought of flying is still there. You wanna erase that, and concentrate on walking. Maybe set a goal of experiencing a sensation of your feel hitting the ground. How it would feel with bere feet, or in socks, or shoes, or different surfaces.

And just a note. The sensations we get as falling asleep used to be called SP. But not any more. Any sensations and hallucinations are just normal signs of falling asleep. SP is something you get as a disorder. When your REM atonia, that stops you from hurting yourself by acting out your dreams kicks in sooner or fails to disengage on time. Normally it starts only after we start dreaming.

      Good luck with your walking

I have a similar problem with flying in my lucids, the issue stems from me using flying as a RC, well more of a conformation after doing the nose-pinch RC, my dreams have a habit of being extremely vivid, and even the clothes on the floor and general clutter of my house is represented in the dream, it's nearly indistinguishable from reality, so I use flying as a final conformation, as I know i can't do that while awake lol. After i start flying i tend to forget everything i wanted to do (unless i land immediately), this has tripped me up a few times, and is quite annoying, but im at the point now where im having 2-3 lucids a week without really trying, so it's not too much of a loss.

I tried magic as an RC, although every time i try it always has an unexpected result (I tried to "force choke" someone, nothing seemed to be happening, so i tried to focus all my "energy" into my hand, and instead his bones started breaking and popping through the skin, a seconds later he exploded, I might have been focusing to hard lol). Does anyone have ideas on RCs to confirm you are dreaming? something to do after the nose pinch RC, that is undeniably impossible in real life, but won't derail my train of though while dreaming.

I'm going to throw a different spin on Sageous' response and suggest that you simply need to become more lucid. every oneironaut gets to your situation, you're starting to get confident with induction, you're asserting control - flying and sex. But wait a sec, wasn't there something else, something more that got you interested in this whole ld shebang in the first place?

To reach those goals you need to get lucid about lucidity. These slightly low level LDs (still cool and worthwhile in their own right, there are indigenous cultures whose dream practice are centred around flying and sex dreams) were ok when you started out, you're happy to get lucid, right? Over time you build an expectation, schema, around what a lucid dream is like based on experience, and your dreaming mind complies with your expectations. That's by no means to suggest that these LDs are false lucids, merely that flying and sex have become learned lucid behaviour, but now your abilities have gone beyond the outdated schema.

We all go through ruts like this, I think the way to move past them is to put renewed effort into the fundamentals (http://www.dreamviews.com/wild/12557...mentals-q.html) of awareness and memory. Having higher self-awareness will lead you to being at a higher level of lucidity right off the bat, without need to remember to stabilise. (Early in my practice i got stuck in a rut in which i wasn't lucid enough to remember to stabilise) When you have that figured out you can be free to chill out and decide however you want to use your LD

I agree. I noticed it also. When I start flying or looking for sx, it's like an instinct, uncontrollable urge. I can't fight it at all. One reason could be because I get scared and feel I'll be more safe in the air. Maybe it's a memory from my "reptilian/bird brain"?

But when I started my LD walking, I was able to remember that I wanted to do other things and was able to refuse an offer for sx. My last LD was one of the best ones. I started walking right away, never even thought of flying or sx. Instead, I was rewarded by walking into an alien city.

Sometimes a mantra "slow down and walk" helps to remember my goal, since I'm still repeating it as I get lucid. I love walking.

I think simply walking in a lucid dream shows a great degree of lucidity, trying to just walk around at lower levels is difficult without being drawn into a new NLD plot so there is a point up to which you should get up and go. My first fully lucid dream was also one of my most reflective lucids and I was able to simply walk and observe the dream, and then struggled to reach that level of lucidity again for some time after.

      I love walking too.

      This thread is pure gold.

Itīs very easy to get happy with average quality lucids, sometimes full of action. Exploring the dream with full lucidity and control is a true mind blowing experience. I was lucky to have 2 of these and i know the difference.

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

I agree with that about the thread and of what was said here. It also nicely complements the other thread started by JoannaB. Achieving this higher level of lucidly and self-control is a true inspiration! May we all have more such dreams!
