Flying without waking up - a single report

Hi there ! Idk if anyone had suffered the same dream control problem concerning flying.

Although i never have any problem to take off, the lucid dream usually ends prematurely. I have heard people say it is because of the decrease of tactile stimulation as you are not touching the ground. And also because we tend to assume a lying down position, which matches our sleeping body.

Last night, while in a LD i flew in seated position and touched my body to compensate for the lack of tactile input. The dream didnt colapse while i was in the air. I am glad

So i am helpful this might become my flying technique. Hope it helps someone too!

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

Thanks for sharing the technique. I will try this next time I am about to take off into the air. I remember a dream I had where I was sitting in a chair and the chair was rocketing backward at very high velocity. I don't think I could see anything but it was strange and fun. Maybe there's something to sitting and being able to feel something while flying.

That is awesome that you found something that worked for you. A lot of dream control is trial and error, not just doing what others say. Being able to troubleshoot your problems and find a solution that works for you is an awesome ability to develop, and it is nice to have other peoples input on things (like this thread) in order for others to troubleshoot.

One thing I like to do, after I have found "my way" is to do things the hard way later. Kind of just to prove that I can do it.

That's really cool. However, I never really had a wake up problem when flying. Hmm...

How do you know that this world isn't as real, or as important, as the one you live in?

Very interesting. I, too, for some reason never seem to fly very long in LDs, I frequently wake or transition within 30 seconds or so. I'll try to generate some more tactile feedback next time I have the chance! Also interesting that I can seemingly fly in non-LDs without this happening.

Interesting technique. For the longest time I couldn't fly (still can't). But, there's a talking tree named Gibly that can fly in my LDs. It's the best way I can fly and get to different places, because for some reason, my LDs don't let me teleport away from my house. So, Gibly just takes me places and it works!

Alert: Schema Police are here...just kidding, however everyone should be aware that flying doesn't have to be difficult or short. I fly horizontally while lucid all the time. You can focus on the tactile feeling of the wind blowing against you as you fly if you have tactile schema that affects (infects) dreams. More examples can be found here: http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...-read-imo.html

Congrats VagalTone! I do want to try seated flying at some point when the mood strikes me.

Just to add a little bit to my (sad) story.

As you do FryingMan, i also fly a lot in nLDs - although for some reason i do it swimming style and with lots of physical effort. Maybe that effort helps to avoid awakening.
You say you can manage 30 seconds, not as bad as mine, no longer than 10. So, many times i avoided flying - as i do with sex lol. I havent discovered a way regarding sex lol.

That's really interesting that you can fly with the tree. probably you can come up with a personal reason for that. I mean it is curious that dream (un)possibilities may reflect some part of our history, psychology, upbringing, etc.

In my last LD I remember realising I wasn't really touching the ground at all full stop, I didn't really try though. The realisation hit me when I was 'standing' next to some construction workers who were doing work on the second floor of a building, they were on a scaffold but I wasn't, I was just sort of zipping around as I watched and directed them with my mind haha.

I tried to touch the ground after teleporting to the top of a mountain, but the terrain was alien to any memory I had and even in the dream I was thinking 'I've never touched snow before, so how could I even imagine what it feels like?' So I guess I'm the opposite, unless I'm indoors I can't seem to touch the ground :p
