The Xbox One sucks but I think we need to give it a little more time before we start thinking about how the government will use it to control us...

EDIT: I think most of these things are rumors. Where did you find that they're patenting monitoring the number of people in the room? And how do you know what they will use that for? The thing about monitoring for products just sounds crazy to me, even for Xbox One.

I think maybe the Xbox One will detect how close you are to it, and if you get within two meters it'll lift off and fly out the window to prevent you from turning it off.

Sure they could be rumors. I'm not claiming anything. Just reacting to news about this all over the internets.

If something has a camera and a mic, and it can be turned on remotely, that's a recipe for disaster for human rights, privacy rigts, common sense and everything else, I can't think of now.

Like when some students got some laptops from school and program was spying on them through built-in webcam.

I've always been an Xbox guy, like 100%. But holy shit MS, you fucked it. You fucked it big time.

Everything that's been mentioned already in this thread were big put-offs by themselves. But the thing that just fucked it completely is that indie game devs might not be able to publish games to the Xbox One without partnering with a publisher. Now, it is true that you can partner with Microsoft Studios, but that's still bullshit. They're essentially making it really difficult for indie devs.
Sony on the other hand are focusing on indie devs, they're continuing their support for indies. And I'm a student games developer, so where the fuck do they expect people like me to go.

Everyone at my uni is completely raging about that, and they're all saying they're not going to touch Xbox One unless they pull out some really big fucking guns at E3. Which I truly wish they could, but as far as I can tell, they've already lost the battle. They're past the point of no return. They've turned into a joke.

They'll keep a lot of customers though, but they've fucked it. Game over. No longer a game centric platform. So fuck them, and hello Sony.

Yuuup. That is another big one. In a generation where gamers are looking for the holy grail of (console) gaming, giving a big middle finger to indie developers is unforgivable, to say the least. Of course, the casuals are still going to buy, but the core gaming community is the only thing that is making these gaming systems even relevant anymore. Yeah to be honest I like the suspense with the PS4 console design being held back. Doesn't bother me a bit. And after watching the Xbox reveal, then watching the PS4 one, I'm so mega impressed and excited by the PS4, I actually can't wait to get one. I *never* expected me to be excited for a PS over an Xbox.

Honestly, I had high hopes for MS. I was backing them with as much as I could recently. Even with Windows Store game development (even though Win8 isn't going well at all, and Win Store isn't exactly a big market yet, they really are whoring themselves out to developers right now). If they don't improve the outlook of indie support, they really are sticking their finger up at me and my fellow devs.

Yeah that's true too. I don't even know if I want them to give a good performance any more. I don't want them to just simply fix a few things. They have now shown where their hearts lie, and it's not where I want it. After that, I want to see them continue to fail so that the other markets can boost themselves high as possible. I want to see PS4 and Steam do really really well now (and holy crap I can't wait to see what happens with the "steambox" as people are calling it).

Yeah, I just read up on the steambox....at 499, it sounds like it could possibly put console gamers off. But the multi room crap....that sounds pretty freaking great. Especially from a family who's dad games out harder than their kids perspective. Oh and one more thing about the Xbone. It's going to be region locked.

At this point Xbone will have to create unlimited free energy or something. I understand that the Wii did considerably well and they're probably trying to go for what they assume is some majority middle ground demographic between real gamers and old people. This demographic doesn't really exist, the people that gave Wii such huge sales have no interest in Halo. Casual gamers will be too busy playing smart phone apps to bother with a console. I frankly don't predict major sales.

I don't think PS4 is going to be a holy grail though, but so far Microsoft is certainly making it look like the sun shines out Sony's asshole.

I don't really understand the whole all-in-one entertainment thing. We have cable. I bought us a Roku for Christmas. I can just plug my mp3 player into the TV and listen to music. For video games I have my PC and 360. Why would I spend money on a freaky robot that's going to watch my every move?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's not really impressed with the new xbox.

EDIT: also, I'm not really up to date/don't care about the whole CISPA thing but if you're required to have your kinect hooked up and required to be connected to the internet, does that mean that the US government can ask Microsoft to let them see what you're up to through your xbox's camera?

Well, honestly, I don't mind the idea of having loads of different entertainment options. The problem is they're taking way too much focus away from gaming. And that's not to mention all the major fuckup issues with it.

And about the whole government spying thing; I wouldn't put it past them. If I was to ever make the mistake of buying one of these damn things, I would make sure to read every last bloody letter of the terms and such. All they'd have to put in the small-print is a sentence such as "Should a high enough authority require access to the camera's feed, this data stream will be provided". And BOOM, they've got the government sucking up MS's ass.
I highly doubt this would be true, but hell it's possible.

The pure amount of data would be too immense for any xbox spying plan to be effective, but yeah it's not something you can put past them considering the CIA director has expressed that very sentiment.

Well then I'm definitely out. Honestly, the number of illegal things I do while sitting in front of my xbox is really unfortunate. I'm already probably on some sort of watch list because of my browsing history. Sometimes people blow shit up for fun ok?

The good thing to come out of all of this, is that we know Microsoft will be our source of entertainment at E3. Meanwhile, Gabe Newell will roll onto stage at SONY's, announcing that Left 4 Dead 3 will come bundled with the PS4.

My reaction to the Xbox One Reveal was kinda the same as showed in this video.

Talked to a local small business game store owner (wher I get my retro crap) and she said if they probably won't even carry it. Lol if I was GameStop, I'd just sell systems and let people buy games at Walmart.

Well they're deciding it by publisher, but it still seems fishy. Only 2 DLs per disk. I can see this actually being a benefit for close friends who happen to share games, but it still sounds fishy as far as buying games used.
