      SpongeBob Episode Depicts Astral Projection / Shared Lucid Dreaming


      Hello,

      Many years a go I watched this on television and it was my favorite episode of Spongebob. Its from the first series (1999 - 2000).

      (You may not be eligible to view the video, if this is the case you will need to search for it yourself-- there are websites which you can see it but I can not link to them as they are legally questionable.)

      Entitled "Sleepytime" this episode depicts Spongebob astrally projecting and sharing dreams with his friends. During this time, Spongebob is lucid (his pet Gary explaining to him how there are no limitations in the dream) and he shows off lucid control (esp. shapeshifting) though ultimately makes his friends dreams worse.

      I must have first seen this in 2004, and I loved it as I didn't even know of the term "lucid dreaming" and didn't know how to induce them, relying entirely on coincidentally becoming lucid.

      I find it interesting how it outwardly promotes lucid dreaming, but also for the story's sake implies astral projection and shared dreaming.

      I remember this episode too! The way Patrick ignores Spongebob's explanations about the unlimited possibilities remind me a lot of how it often is trying to explain lucid dreaming to people who have no idea about it.

      It's little references like this that I enjoy though - normally it's more subtle - but if you're looking for it you can really notice the influences of dreams in a lot of artists and writers, and even moreso when they're lucid dreamers.

      I like that episode too. I tried to use it for my advantage in a WBTB, but it didn't work :p

      Ugh spongebob... personally I found that episode annoying, like it was degrading dreams or something, think the only interesting one was the slug <.<

      I'm not sure I understand why you think that. Could you tell me why you see it as degrading? Because to me, I think it makes for an entertaining episode, and it helps promote lucid dreaming to youngsters.

      Pretty simple, except for the slug who studies in his dreams, every other dream is shown as a method of escapism and games which I don't like.
