      Sleep paralysis seems impossible

      Hi,
I've been trying to WILD for almost a month now almost every day I practice sleep paralysis during a nap or WBTB. The only progress I made was that I felt the heavy blanket people talk about being laid on me but it stopped at the top of my legs and that was it.
I usually lay perfectly still for about 2 hours or so before I give up because nothing happened.
The thing I realized is that during my attempts when I'm about to nap I often get these moments where I fall asleep for a minute or so then wake back up and keep trying to but the same thing happens. When I attempt sleep paralysis in WBTB nothing happens I just lay there for about 2 hours
So I've been wondering is this something not all people can do? If not am I doing something wrong? I'd appreciate any kind of reply.

Just focus on getting into the dream.

      That is a common misconception.

You don't need SP to get into lucid dream. So you definitelly should not wait for it, try to get into it, try to induce it, or even think about it. Do you normally have SP when falling asleep? (when you can not move at all, no matter what). If not, then you will not feel it when WILDing either.

The second misconceptin is, that SP is vibrations, sensations, hallucinations and other stuff, that you can experience when WILDing. Those things are not SP. Those are HH (hypnogogic hallucinations). Now those are something, that can somewhat give you indication, if you are getting closer to LD.

But even HH are not foolproof, because not everybody experiences them either, or all of them, or same ones each time, or same intensity.

So for a WILD, you basically let your body fall asleep while you keep your mind awake, untill your dream forms and you enter it by one of the many entry methods. That's all.

As Auron said, keep the dream as your goal. You want to get to a point where you are no longer thinking about your body. You should be totally in your own head. Let yourself drift as close to sleep as you can, without totally losing consciousness. Imagine a simple dream scene you would like to enter, and try to encourage any strange dreamlets or hallucinations that start to happen.

The problem with the sleep paralysis concept that is out there, is that people end up focusing on their bodies instead of their mind.

So they lay there thinking "hmm ok am I in SP now? uhm it's a little numb, I'll just wait a little longer..."

3 hours and some minutes later... (if you get that far!) "Why isn't anything happening?! ARGH!".

Where you focus is where you will end up, focus on the body well then you'll be there.. Focus on the dream and the non-physical sensations, then you get to the dream.

And that's not all, you have to relax both the body and the mind. These problems is what makes a traditional WILD so frustrating and difficult.

So I would recommend to start with the DEILD method because then you completley skip the relaxation (clear mind and body) process!
And you can just wake up wait a few seconds and see the dream form right infront of your "eyes".

So I definitely recommend you check some DEILD tutorials.

      Sweet dreams!

Wow great site, such fast replies
Thanks everyone for the tips I think you guys are right when I'm laying in bed I always think of things such as when is my body gonna getting numb etc.
This time I'll try to focus on the dream instead of my body and I've been reading that knowing when your REM cycle starts makes the WBTB more effective. A trick to know when your REM cycle starts is to make a note of the time when you wake up during night but what if I don't wake up at night or I just don't remember waking up? What do I do then to know when my REM cycle starts? I'm sorry for asking so much questions I'm just a bit confused.

Thanks for the link I'll definitely make sure to read that tutorial.

Sleep paralysis is over-rated. I hardly ever practice it. There are a plethora of methods to attain a lucid dream. If something is not working simply move on to a different technique. Personally, I shoot for hypnogogia in the Theta brainwave state of sleep onset. I combine this with visualization. This works for me... discover the thing that works for you. Good luck to you!

Do not forget the one one KEY thing here! You need to fall asleep! You also need to stay aware, and that is the part that takes talent and practice. If you are just laying still, you will never move forward, YOU ARE TRYING TO FALL ASLEEP!
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.

Bingo! Once I realized the most important thing is just to fall asleep, I started having WILDs all the time. Kind of keep in mind that you want to attain some awareness, But just do what you normally would do to try and get to sleep on a regular night. Don't necessarily expect anything to happen, just sleep.
