I don't know if you practice mindfulness in waking life, but it's similar to that. I recognise that I'm scared (or feeling whatever negative emotion I'm feeling in the dream) and I focus inwards and work on calming myself, regardless of what's going on around me. Once I'm feeling a more positive vibe within myself, it seems like that projects outwards to the DCs.

I practice mindfulness as a meditation not so much as a daily practice. I will try and recognize my emotions during the day and see how that works.
