Lucid Dream without the scary stuff

Hey guys, I've been looking through threads and just trying to learn as many methods as I can about lucid dreaming. From what I know so far, everyone usually(unless you are sleepwalking?) undergoes sleep paralysis right before they go to sleep. Then I was reading about the WILD technique about tricking your body into thinking your mind is asleep so that your body falls asleep first, which then in many cases leads to the hallucination of scary stuff around you, whether it be visual or auditory.

Now I was wondering, does the hallucinations occur due to you being awake while your body is asleep? From what I have read, some people do not experience anything scary at all... perhaps just a slight buzz throughout the body.

I was reading another tutorial called the DEILD at which one point you'll go through a short period of sleep paralysis(like what happens in WILD). I was wondering if this method will cause a person to experience anything scary like seeing a man just staring at you in your room.

I'm easily scared when it comes to this stuff. I nearly quit my part time job because I had to work at a basement of my university's dorm restaurant, which was rumored to be haunted, until my supervisor stopped sending me downstairs. So before I start anything other than hoping for a safe DILD, I'm hoping you guys can shed some light to which methods are completely safe from seeing scary shit as the last thing I want my mind to do is to create an image of a full body apparition of a girl walking through my door when I try to lucid dream.

It's all gonna have to do with expectation. If you believe that during SP you will hallucinate seeing scary things, there is a good chance you will, which is why many people who experience it without learning of it first get really scared as they can't move, and since they can't and are close to the dream state, there mind will give them a reason to be afraid eg. scary things. If you learn about SP and its effects beforehand, you will not be as scared and the chance of hallucinations are less (unless you want to have hallucinations, some people are able to influence there SP so that they hallucinate cool/funny/lovable things instead).

When you get in SP, for me the effects are a very loud prevailent buzzing vibrating almost screeching of metal in my ears, and at times I also feel as if my body is floating above my bed, but I never open my eyes until i think its a dream. If you don't want any visual hallucinations from SP, don't open your eyes during it. I do sometimes get auditory hallucinations other than the vibrating ringing sound. for example I have heard voices of people who can't be in my room at the time, like I heard my mom and brothers voice once, and then I heard my cousins voice once too who lives in a different city. Your body will feel heavy, the first time you experience it, you may think you are having a seizure simply becasuse you have never experienced anything like it, and my first time was very scary not because of hallucinations but becase of the vibrations, but it was worth it when I got into a WILD by it. You may feel a weight on top of your chest and it may seem harder to breathe but none of that is actually anything scary on you, so educate yourself on SP and you'll learn its not too bad. Welcome to DV btw.

      Is it just that simple?
Can it happen that your eyes slide open by theirselves? And if they do, can you close them again or is your eyelids also paralized?

Actually, I never never get much HI or HH when I WILD. Probably once every 10 attempt. Remember, everything's in your mind. If you're that paranoid about it, you should try your first WILD attempt in the afternoon of the day (during a nap). Just make sure you're tired enough to actually want some sleep. Best of luck!

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!

HH occurs when your body is nearly entering a dream, but you can have dreams similar to the experience.
I'm pretty sure most people can see HH with their eyes closed, well the people who get it that is, just either ignore it or invite it, don't be scared.

I have the same problem. I have a HUGE fear of well... fear. I get scared from suspicious trailers of movies! I have always wanted to Lucid dream but what if I see everything I don't want to see. Or even hear? I'm afraid that my brain will put those hallucinations in front of me! Please help! Thanks!

what if I see everything I don't want to see. Or even hear?
Then you wake up and are completely unharmed. Keep in mind that one of the most common and popular uses for lucid dreaming is to prevent or even resolve nightmares. While sleep paralysis can seem terrifying, remember that: 1) lucid dreaming does not require that one enter sleep paralysis. 2) Horrible hallucinations are not inevitable even if you are in sleep paralysis.

I have had terrifying (faceless ghoul grappling me and attacking my face) experiences with SP but also amazing ones (floating above a bed with the sound of the ocean and ultimate relaxation and peace). I do not regret pursuing lucid dreaming because of scary things happening, and while I can't speak for anyone else, I believe that most people would say the same. There is no reason for you to be worried about a bad experience in lucid dreaming significantly more than being worried about having a regular vivid nightmare.

Furthermore, the act of worrying is counterproductive. It not only decreases your chances of becoming lucid, but also increases the chances of negative things happening to you in a lucid dream. Recognize that the dream is a construct of your mind. It doesn't have any more malicious intent than you give it. The only specific characteristic universal for sleep paralysis is the inability to move. If you find yourself in sleep paralysis and just want to wake up, don't try to fight it. Just relax and close your eyes.

There is no legitimate reason to worry about lucid dreaming and innumerable incentives.

Just like dreams, sleep paralysis and hallucinations seem real as they are happening. Just like dreams, they seem silly five minutes after you wake. Learning to lucid dream is all about becoming comfortable with your dreams. Nightmares of all kinds become less frightening with practice.
