Been trying to LD for a while, but it doesn't really work. Any tips?

I've read a lot about lucid dreaming before, but it's never worked for me...

      I can only remember 1 or 2 LD's, ever...

My brain always seems to accept every crazy thing that happens in my dreams as normal, so I never get that "I must be dreaming!" realization...

That's how most everyone is at first, you just gotta keep trying! Create the intent to lucid dream, have you been using a dream journal?

The brain's logic center shuts down when you sleep, and therefore you can't think logically in your dreams. This is why you never react to strange things while dreaming.

In order to realize that you're dreaming in a dream (this type of lucid dream is called DILD), you must be more critical and aware of your surroundings during daytime. When you've done this for a while, you'll do it in your dreams and become lucid! And don't forget to do reality checks. I actually got my first lucid dream just by doing only reality checks for five days!

There're many DILD tutorials here on Dream Views, so you can read them if you want more information.

My dream recalls are very fleeting...NO WHERE near the intensity of those I saw! I don't think I could remember them long enough to type it up on the computer...would simply writing on some paper by my bed help?

Yup, that's what I do. As soon as I wake up I jot down notes of what I remember and later in the day I write it in my dream journal in more detail.
      It's all in your head.

Just keep at it. I had the same problem, nothing ever struck me as odd. Until last time Practice daytime awareness and read posts - I'm amazed how much of what I read here manifests itself in my dreams and LDs.

Okay, thanks! I'll do that! Any estimation on how long it takes before my first LD? Or is it just random?

I would say its random. I got my first DILD on first day, after reading DV for about 7 hours straight, did some RCs, and I was SUPER excited about it. Keep your spirits up and really believe.

      Thanks for the encouragement!

Also, could someone help me with some of the acronyms used around the site? The're so many, and I'm not sure what most of them mean...

Definitely! Or, you could use a little voice recorder, maybe on a phone or something like that, it's easier than writing when you're half asleep
