Actually you won't go into REM during your nap, unless I'm very mistaken... because you've been up 12 hours. That's way too long.
The technique you should master depends on how your life schedule looks like and how you are as a person. Are you the kind of person who can relax and stay focused at the same time, whilst ignoring super crazy and weird sensations, then I'd say WILD is your technique. This is something you have to find out for yourself. Try them all out Give each of them a worthy shot, atleast a few weeks. You can combinate DILD and MILD, I feel that they lack something on their own.
There's no "best" technique, most of them are reliable if you put effort into them. There's really only two kinds of techniques then alot of spin offs. DILD and WILD.
The words you're using as a mantra doesn't matter that much, but make sure it's short and that you believe in it. It's more about intentions than anything else really when it comes to MILD.
